Abstract

This research aims to examine the eligibility of and responses from expert media, expert material, practitioners and students’ on the ‘Fun and Educative’ biology module. The module was developed in a fun and educative way presenting various educative games. The research development model is using ADDIE model that consists of five phases: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The data collection technique employed examination of learning media experts, material experts, practitioners (biology teachers), and students. The data of research was analyzed in descriptive-qualitative and descriptive-qualitative ways. The results of evaluation on the module’s eligibility convey that the learning media expert gave 87.69% with the category of ‘highly eligible’, the material expert gave 86.00% with the category of ‘highly eligible, and the practitioners gave 83.68% with the category of ‘eligible. The students responses to questionnaires given related to the developed module gave 90.00% with the category of ‘highly interesting. Based on the results of examination by the media expert, material expert, practitioners, and students, conclude that the module has fulfilled the criteria of good and eligible learning material and can be used for studying biology.

Abstract

Abstrak: Pengembangan karir guru dan peningkatan kompetensi bagi guru dilakukan dalam rangka menjaga kompetensi keprofesiannya agar sesuai dengan perkembangan ilmu pengetahuan, teknologi, seni budaya dan olah raga sesuai PP No. 74 Tahun 2008.Pengembangan keprofesian guru ini dikembangkan dengan perolehan angka kredit baik melalui kegiatan pengembangan diri maupun menulis karya ilmiah.Hasil observasi disekolah mitra diketahui permasalahan yang mereka hadapi antara lainkurangnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan Guru IPA mengenai penyusunan karya tulis ilmiah yang menyebabkan guru kesulitan mengajukan kenaikan pangkatnya, maka dari itu perlu dilakukan pendampingan penyusunan karya tulis ilmiah bagi guru di sekolah mitra. Target dan Luaran dari kegiatan ini yakni meningkatnya pemahaman guru IPA sekolah mitra terhadap karya tulis ilmiah dan menghasilkan produk berupa karya tulis ilmiah dalam bentuk draf.Pelaksanaan kegiatan Pendampingan Penyusunan Karya Tulis Ilmiah ini dilaksanakan melalui tahapan 1) Pemberian informasi dan 2) Pendampingan penyusunan karya tulis ilmiah.Hasil evaluasi pelaksanaan pendampingan penyusunan karya tulis ilmiah dalam kategori baik.Hasil evaluasi terhadap pengetahuan guru dalam menyusun karya tulis ilmiah 2 (dua) orang tergolong kategori baik, 1 (satu) orang dalam kategori sedang, dan 2 (dua) orang dalam kategori kurang. Hasil evaluasi keterampilan guru dalam menyusun karya tulis ilmiah telah memenuhi kriteria  karya tulis ilmiah dalam kategori baik.Abstrak: Teachers’ career need to be developed and improved in order to maintain their professionalism and competence that should be related to the development of science, technology, arts, and physical exercise based on PP No. 74 year of 2008. The development of teachers’ professionalism can be implemented using a credit point either through self development activities or writing a scientific paper. observation results on several schools show that the major problem that they face is science teachers are lack of knowledge and skills in writing a scientific paper that can result in the difficulties in submitting their preferment, therefore it is important to accompany those teachers in writing scientific paper through a short training. The target and output of this activity is that the science teachers can improve their writing skill in writing scientific paper and resulting a scientific paper draft.This activity consists of two stages (1) giving information and (2) accompaniment in writing scientific paper. The results show that the evaluation on accompaniment can be categorized as good. The evaluation on teachers’ knowledge in writing scientific paper can be categorized as good (two teachers), medium (one teacher), and not good (two teachers). The evaluation on teachers’ skill in writing scientific paper shows that they are able to write a scientific paper that can be categorized in good level.

Abstract

Finlandia sebagai negara dengan sistem pendidikan terbaik, telah menjadi rujukan bagi pelaksanaan pendidikan negara-negara di dunia. Indonesia sebagai negara yang terus berusaha dalam perbaikan kualitas pendidikan, perlu mempelajari apa saja strategi pendidikan di Finlandia  dan memilah-milah mana yang sesuai dengan situasi kondisi di Indonesia dan mana yang tidak.  Tujuan penulisan ini untuk mengungkap bagaimana detail pembelajaran di Finlandia dan kemungkinan penerapannya di Indonesia, dengan acuan utama buku karangan Timothy D. Walker yang berjudul Teach Like Finland, 33 Simple Strategies for Joyfull Classrooms. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode studi literatur. Hasil dari penelitian ini yaitu: 1). strategi dari pembelajaran di sekolah Finlandia yang sudah banyak diterapkan di sekolah Indonesia, yaitu; masuk ke alam liar, merekrut tim kesejahteraan, mengejar mimpi kelas, menggunakan buku pegangan, menggunakan teknologi, dan memasukkan musik, 2). strategi dari pembelajaran di sekolah Finlandia yang dapat diterapkan di sekolah Indonesia yaitu; belajar sambil bergerak, recharge sepulang sekolah, mengenal setiap anak, bermain dengan murid, menghapus bullying dengan program tertentu, berkawan, mulai dengan kebebasan, membuat rencana pembelajaran bersama siswa, dan mengajarkan hal-hal mendasar dan, 3). strategi dari pembelajaran di sekolah Finlandia yang sulit diterapkan di sekolah Indonesia yaitu; jadwal istirahat otak.

Abstract

Kalimantan Utara memiliki keunikan jenis tanaman obat terutama yang banyak digunakan oleh Suku Dayak. Salah satu lokasi di mana masyarakat banyak membeli bahan pengobatan herbal adalah di Pasar Dayak, Kota Tarakan, Kalimantan Utara. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menginventarisir jenis-jenis tanaman obat yang dijual oleh para pedagang di Pasar Dayak Kalimantan Utara. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan melaporkan bagaimana pengunaan masing-masing tanaman sesuai kebiasaan yang dilakukan oleh Suku Dayak maupun oleh suku-suku lain yang memanfaatkan berbagai tanaman obat dari Pasar Dayak.  Penelitian ini menggunakan Metode Deskriptif dengan Pendekatan Kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan studi literatur. Dari hasil kajian dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat 25 spesies tanaman obat di Pasar Dayak, dan dapat dikelompokkan dalam 11 famili. Jenis penyakit yang dapat diobati meliputi kanker, tumor, benjolan, kista, diabetes, hipertensi, demam, sakit perut, dan lainnya. Bagian tanaman yang digunakan meliputi rimpang, batang, daun, buah, biji, umbi, kulit kayu, dan bunga.

Abstract

Bekai (Pycnarrhena tumefacta Miers) is one of the plants used by the Dayak Tribe in Setarap Village, Malinau Regency as a natural flavouring (bio-vetsin) and as a medicinal plant. Research on the use of Bekai plants by the Dayak Tribe in Kalimantan is still very limited. This study aims to determine how the Bekai plant is used by the Dayak Tribe, especially as a bio-vetsin and medicinal plant. The research method used is an ethnobotanical study with a qualitative descriptive method. Primary data were obtained through direct observation and interviews in the field, secondary data were obtained through a literature review. The results of this study are that the use of Bekai as a bio-vetsin: (a) young leaves are crushed or pounded with vegetables to be cooked, and (b) old leaves are mixed directly into the cooking. Bekai plants are also used by the Dayak Tribe in Setarap Village as a treatment for various types of diseases. How to use it is by boiling the leaves (for cancer treatment, aches and pains, post-operative healing, fever, headaches), and brewing the fruit (for mouth ulcers and sore throats).

Abstract

Mahasiswa calon guru perlu memahami bagaimana mengukur tingkat literasi sains siswa. Pada kenyataannya, mahasiswa calon guru dan para guru masih banyak mengalami kesulitan dalam menyusun instrumen literasi sains yang efektif, valid dan reliabel. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk memilih dan menelaah instrumen literasi sains yang telah dipublikasikan sebelumnya, dan menyajikannya agar lebih mudah dipahami dan diadaptasi oleh mahasiswa calon guru Biologi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode literature review. Kriteria inklusi antara lain: 1) hanya penelitian yang membahas mengenai hasil pengembangan dan uji instrumen literasi sains yang telah dinyatakan valid dan reliabel; 2) dalam artikel memuat aspek dan subaspek serta indikator penilaian literasi sains yang jelas dan rinci, sehingga memudahkan untuk diadaptasi. Berdasar hasil literature review, instrumen literasi sains yang dapat mudah dipahami dan diadaptasi oleh mahasiswa calon guru, terutama pada pembelajaran biologi yaitu Test of Scientific Literacy Skills (TOSLS) dan Scientific Literacy Assessment (SLA)

Abstract

Derawan Islands, East Kalimantan, experienced a decline in the population of clams (Tridacnidae) due to over-exploitation and environmental changes. Although there are seven species of clams in Indonesia, data on their distribution patterns and factors affecting their survival in this area are still limited. This study aims to analyze the distribution patterns of clams on Tebabinga Reef and the abiotic factors affecting their habitat. The method used was observation with sampling using the belt transect technique at seven observation stations. Data collected included the number of individuals, size, and environmental parameters such as temperature, salinity, and pH. In the study, three types of clams were found: T. crocea, T. kerasa, and T. squamosa. T. crocea had a clustered distribution pattern (Id = 1.01), while T. kerasa (0.84) and T. squamosa (0.79) had a uniform pattern. Based on the type of substrate in Tebabinga Reef, the species T. kerasa is most common on coral massive, rubble, and sand substrates. Habitat conditions in Tebabinga Reef support the life of clams, although some abiotic parameters such as salinity and DO are below the quality standards. In conclusion, this study provides an overview of the distribution pattern of clams and environmental factors that affect their survival, and it emphasizes the importance of sustainable management to protect this species from further exploitation.

Abstract

Meaningful learning can be carried out by adapting learning to local culture and traditions. Ethnoscience is a set of knowledge identified in a community and can be used as the learning base to create contextual and meaningful learning for students. This study aims to find more information about ethnoscience-based biology learning. The research method used was a literature study. The literature used mainly discusses ethnoscience, ethnoscience learning, and learning methods. The instrument used in this study was a summary table of all related articles, following the summary table made by Cronin et al. (2008). This research produces a new conceptual framework which is a synergy between ethnoscience and problem-based learning. This research also generates six procedures for designing ethnoscience-based learning and five steps to integrate ethnoscience into Problem-based Learning. The integration of ethnoscience in problem-based learning can increase the contextuality and meaning of biology learning and can be applied to maintain local culture. This study recommends the use of procedures resulted from this study to design ethnoscience-based learning and integrate ethnoscience learning into Problem-Based Learning.
