Abstract

Most of surface run off in rainy season in west Bangkinang city flow to Petai I river, so that Petai I river unable to deliver it anymore to Kampar river, it will be flood in some region in Bangkinang city. According a concept has been developed to this condition that devides into two parts Jendral Ahmad Yani street, for the east region flow, will be directed to Petai I river and the west region will be directed to Polsek Bangkinang channel. The aim of this study is to planned drainage system and the capacity of the channel to drain surface runoff so that to overcome the happening flood and to reduces the load flow of the Petai I river. Rainfall station data of Pasar Kampar for 15 years used to determine rainfall plan by using 10 times years period and obtained rainfall plans (R24) of 136.11 mm. From the chatchment area map and rainfall plan data the area debit calculated to get dimensions of channel plan. The finding showed that the capacity of the existing channel with dimensions of 0.45 m - 3.00 m is unable to accommodate debit that occurs of 0.06 m3/sec - 3.96 m3/sec so that a new drainage system with dimensions of 0.44 m - 2.61 m which can accommodate debit of 0.06 m3/sec - 6.72 m3/sec must be planed.  Key words: Flood, rain fall, drainage system, dimension channel

Abstract

According to the peatland fire risk index, peat soils with a water table depth of more than 40 cm are at the very risk of land fires. Groundwater Level (GWL) plays an important role in determining the risk of fire. So that if changes in groundwater level in the future can be predicted, the risk of fire can also be minimized. The purpose of this study was to create a hydrological model to predict the depth of groundwater level (GWL) as a parameter of the potential for the fire to occur in peatlands using analysis. The data used for modeling are rainfall data and groundwater level data that have been recorded historically in peatlands with the installation of the SESAME tool at the study site. Regression analysis was carried out using four data length scenarios, namely 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and 12 months to determine the periods that could represent hydrological conditions in the field. The results of the study resulted in a regression formulation for the prediction of the data length of 3 months, namely: Wn + 1 = Wn + 1,049 × R - (-0.0093 × Wn) + 0.0153, data length 6 months: Wn + 1 = Wn + 0.577 × R - (-0.0272 × Wn) + 0.0233, 9 months data length: Wn + 1 = Wn + 0.612 × R - (-0.0287 × Wn) + 0.0237, 12 months data length: Wn + 1 = Wn + 0.666×R - (-0.0248 × Wn) + 0.0229. Abstract

Rangsang Island is one of the 4 main islands in the Meranti Islands Regency. The location of this island is very strategic because it is directly with the Malacca Strait so that this island has a very high economic value. Abrasion that occurred on Rangsang Island resulted in many losses experienced by people living on the coast of the island, including eroded coconut plantations, damaged docks, and people who were forced to evacuate because their homes were very prone to landslides. This condition is related to sea level rise due to global climate change, which makes these coastal areas vulnerable to disasters. This study aims to determine the vulnerability index of the coastal area of Rangsang Island based on oceanographic physical parameters (tidal and wave height) having a moderate level of vulnerability. Meanwhile, the sea level around the coast shows a high vulnerability. From the data obtained, the highest sea level rise was in Sonde village of 1.23 m and the lowest sea level rise was in Sungai Gayung Kiri village of 1.09 m. This value indicates that Sonde village has a high level of vulnerability in the category. This index variation shows that local changes on the coast of Mendol Island are correlated with global changes that occur, where local sea level rise is the impact of global ocean and climate changes. Keywords: Sea Level Rise, Wave Period and Height, Rangsang Island

Abstract

Kampung Sungai Tengah rice fields have a functional land area of ± 450 ha of a total land area of ± 800 ha. To meet the needs of irrigation water, the government makes long storage and the people of Kampung Sungai Tengah use water from the Siak River flow. Making long storage serves to collect water at high tide and then at low tide the floodgates are closed so that water in long storage does not flow back into the river. This study aims to analyze the effect of salinity levels in long storage and to analyze whether the distance from the point of collection has an effect on water quality. The parameters of the water quality test are salinity, pH, and water temperature. Field testing was carried out for 3 days with test points at the Siak River, sluice gates, and long storage. The results of field testing showed that water from the Siak River that entered the long storage at high tide experienced an increase in salinity levels with the highest value of 0.03 ppt. This shows that there is an increase in salinity at high tide but the increase is not large and the water is still included in the fresh water category, so that water entering long storage at high tide can be directly used for irrigation purposes without first settling for 24 hours. The pH value obtained during the test was consistent at 6.8, which means the water is still suitable for use for irrigation of rice fields. The water temperature during the test has a value that varies during the test with the highest temperature of 330 degrees which is because the test was carried out during the day with hot sun conditions. Keywords: Water quality, irrigation, salinity, long storage, Anova method

Abstract

The Indragiri Hulu watershed often experiences floods. This flood is caused by the overflow of the Indragiri river during the rainy season. This flooding is also caused by developments in land use change. This condition can threaten the existence of communities around the river area. The purpose of this study was to analyze the value of Vegetation Closure Percentage (PPV) in the upstream river of Indragiri at Lubuk Ambacang Station. The analysis was carried out using a Geographic Information system by digitizing the existing land classes in the Upper Indragiri Basin at the Lubuk Ambacang Station using data obtained from satellite imagery. The results showed that the PPV value in 2018 was equal to 81.48% and the watershed was included in good sabbath conditions. This is caused by watershedIndragiri upstream of Lubuk ambacang station which is dominated by land class with a percentage of 62.11%.Keyword:Vegetation Closure Percentage, Landuse, Indragiri Watershed, GIS

Abstract

The forest fires that occurred in 2015 were very severe in the past 20 years. The forest fires caused a haze disaster for several months. The depth of groundwater plays an important role as a key in determining the risk of a fire occurring on peatlands. The purpose of this study is to create a hydrological model to predict the depth of the groundwater surface as a parameter for potential fires on peatlands using regression analysis. The location of the research is the village of Sungai Tohor. The data used for modeling are rainfall data and groundwater depth data that have been recorded historically on peatlands by installing SESAME at the research location and obtained data through the website address web.sesame-system.com. Regression analysis was performed using five data length scenarios, namely 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, 9 months, and 12 months to determine the period that could represent the hydrological conditions in the field. The results showed that the regression analysis with data lengths of 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months gave the best prediction results for groundwater levels with strong correlation coefficient values of 0.80, 0.93, 0.89 and 0.94. Meanwhile, groundwater level prediction using regression analysis with 6 months length of data gives results with a moderate correlation value of 0.56.Key words: correlation value, groundwater level, peatlands, regression analysis.
