Abstract

Abstract

The increasing production target of PT Borneo Indobara (PT BIB) to 54 million tons by 2026 necessitates strategic improvements in workforce competency through effective training programs. However, the current implementation of Training Needs Analysis (TNA) at PT BIB reveals significant gaps, including poor regulatory structure, minimal supervisor involvement, and inadequate post-training evaluation, resulting in misaligned training delivery. This research aims to analyze the TNA process, evaluate training effectiveness, identify influencing factors, and develop a structured regulatory strategy using the RACI Matrix approach. Employing a mixed-methods design, the study integrates qualitative methods (interviews and observations) with quantitative analysis (descriptive statistics, mean ranking, and Pearson correlation) involving 150 respondents. The results demonstrate that the absence of formal TNA regulations and limited stakeholder engagement undermine the alignment between training programs and operational realities. The implementation of the RACI Matrix significantly clarifies roles and responsibilities across departments, particularly enhancing the involvement of supervisors, and is associated with a marked improvement in training effectiveness (p < 0.001). The study concludes that adopting RACI-based TNA regulations, coupled with performance-focused evaluation systems and periodic monitoring, can significantly enhance employee competence and contribute to the achievement of corporate goals. This research offers a novel, practical framework for improving training governance and invites further longitudinal exploration on the sustainability and broader applicability of the proposed model.

Abstract

PT Borneo Indobara (BIB), a coal mining company in Indonesia, faces escalating operational costs due to diesel fuel dependency and volatile prices, exacerbated by impending subsidy reductions. Transitioning to electric dump trucks (DT EVs) presents a potential solution, but requires rigorous feasibility analysis. This study evaluates DT EV adoption against hybrid and internal combustion alternatives, aiming to identify the most cost-efficient option while mitigating risks associated with diesel reliance. The SMART method was employed to weight operational, technical, and financial attributes, validated by SWOT analysis and Kepner-Tregoe risk assessment. Data included primary inputs from focus group discussions (FGDs) and field observations, alongside secondary financial and technical metrics. DT EVs emerged as the optimal choice, offering annual savings of IDR 480 billion versus an infrastructure investment of IDR 183 billion. Sensitivity analysis confirmed robustness, with SWOT highlighting alignment with sustainability goals. Risks, such as charging downtime, were mitigated via phased PDCA implementation. The study provides a replicable framework for mining firms transitioning to electrification, emphasizing cost efficiency and strategic risk management. Future research should explore environmental impacts and co-investment models to enhance ROI.

Abstract

This study explores the integration of Systems Thinking (ST) and Entrepreneurial Thinking (ET) as complementary cognitive frameworks to develop a comprehensive approach to effective corporate turnaround management. Traditional turnaround strategies often emphasize linear processes, such as retrenchment and restructuring, while overlooking corporate decline and recovery's cognitive dimensions and dynamic nature. By synthesizing insights from various theoretical perspectives—including Resource-Based Theory, Stage Theory, Cognitive-Behavioral Theory, and Political Behavior—this research proposes a cyclical model that recognizes four interconnected stages: Cognitive, Behavioral, Turnaround Outcome, and Learning. This model highlights how managerial cognition shapes strategic choices and implementation effectiveness throughout the turnaround process. Unlike conventional approaches, the framework of this study incorporates cognitive adaptation, feedback loops, and resilience-building elements to enhance organizational recovery and long-term sustainability. The study culminates in developing an Integrated Turnaround Strategy Canvas. This practical tool enables decision-makers to apply cognitive skills in assessing corporate decline, implementing practical recovery actions, and building adaptive capabilities. This research contributes to the turnaround literature by highlighting the importance of cognitive flexibility, holistic thinking, entrepreneurial innovation, and political engagement in navigating organizational crises, moving beyond cost-cutting measures to foster strategic agility and sustainable competitive advantage in volatile business environments.

Abstract

PT Black Energy has infrastructure on both the mining side includes a total of 5 Coal Handling Facility (CHF) systems, and the unloading terminal side includes the Kertapati dock and the Tarahan port. To increase coal transport volume by 2026, adequate infrastructure development is needed by adding more CHF on the mining side and for the unloading terminal side, which will involve adding more unloading terminals. The maintenance department is tasked with maintaining the CHF system. Meanwhile, to carry out its maintenance activities on the existing CHF system, the maintenance department is currently facing an issue with a shortage of supervisors. The maintenance department must develop new strategy to optimize its performance in maintaining the existing 5 CHF systems while also preparing to accommodate the addition of CHF 6 & CHF 7 in 2026. This research was conducted using secondary data from maintenance department documentation studies and primary data through interviews with Subject Matter Expert. Value-Focused Thinking (VFT) method was used to identifying and describing values and objectives that are used as the foundation to generating alternatives and attributes for decision making process. Decision making to select the best alternative was conducted using Simple Multi Attribute Rating Technique (SMART) which will evaluate and compare alternatives with multiple attributes involved while each attribute represents a different aspect or criteria that matters in the decision. The research result show that CHF system focused maintenance model is the best alternative to respond additional CHF 6 & CHF 7 operations in 2026 where each Assistant Manager for mechanical and electrical maintenance division will be responsible for a specific CHF system. This research supports the maintenance department in solving the issue of manpower shortages that will inevitably occur in 2026. Abstract

Bakso Benhil Purwokerto, a micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) established in July 2024, faced challenges in achieving sales targets, with a decline in sales in the third month since opening. This research uses SWOT-TOWS and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) methodologies to identify and prioritise strategic solutions to increase revenue and ensure sustainable business growth. The SWOT analysis highlighted strengths such as strategic location in the student culinary area, variety of high-quality meatball products, and halal certification. However, weaknesses such as limited digital promotion and customer knowledge were also found. External opportunities include the trend of digitalisation of MSMEs and the increasing demand for convenience food among students, while threats include fierce competition and fluctuating raw material prices. By integrating these factors in the TOWS matrix, strategy alternatives were formulated and prioritised using the AHP method. The most optimal strategy is to increase digital marketing, including the development of engaging social media content, collaboration with local influencers, as well as promotional programmes on online ordering platforms. This strategy aims to expand market reach, increase brand awareness, and ultimately increase business revenue. This research provides a strategic framework that can be applied by businesses in the food and beverage industry.
