Abstract

Abstract Speaking is kind of communication that human needs to give same understanding of mind and works. The term of ‘speech’ has meaning to give some explanation from speaker to audience with many intention from the speaker based on their speech. The speech of Donald Trump at his first state on the january 2018 giving some explanation about the condition in USA today. This research giving the information about the use of conjunction: elaboration in Donald trump speech. The research goal to give some explanation about the types of conjunction and the meaning inside of it. This research used qualitative with the method have been used by the writers is textual analysis method as supported by Frey, et al. The analysis of data show us the precentage of subtype of conjunction: elaboration that Donald trump’s use at his speech are Expository 60%,  Exemplifying 8%, Corrective 8%, Particularizing 8%, Resumptive 8%, Verifactive 8%. Donald Trump used appositive so often rather than using clarification on his speech. It means he is less doing clarification to have understanding between him and the audience

Abstract

The aims of this research is to know that using off record strategies, people can make a relation with other people. To communicate their ideas in social interaction, human beings frequently use an indirect expression. Whenever people want to communicate for a specific information or provide as much of  that information as possible, they show to express it indirectly, so there is a gap between what is said and what is delivered, that kind of communication provide a small part of an account of how people can communicate well by using indirect language with other (Yanti, 2017). The writer choose title “An Analysis of Animation  Movie ‘Ratotouille’ that Reflecting the Politeness of Off Record Strategies.” This movie tell about a rat named Remy dreams of becoming a great French chef despite his family’s whises and the obvious problem of being a rat in a decidedly rodent-phobic profession. The writter chooses qualitative method, using informal method (collecting data, analysing data, and presenting the result).

Abstract

One of English skills which is important to be mastered by the students’ is writing skill. Writing is a creative and expressive process. Students need to explore their ideas and compose into a good text. The objectives of this research is to find out types of error and the most dominant error writing using simple present tenses in a descriptive text made by the seventh grade students of MTs Asih Putera. The research design is qualitative design. The data were gathered from students’ test as a document analysis. Then, the researcher analyzed, classifying errors the students’ work based on types of errors by Dulay (1982). For calcuting the data, the researcher used one formula to know percentages errors. The result of this research, showed that there are 73 items of errors which occur in students’ sentence. It is found that 42 items or 57,53% errors are omission, 10 items or 13,70% are addition, 16 items or 21,92% are misformation, and 5 items or 6,85% are disordering. The conclusion based on the research result data, most student were made error in using simple present tense in a descriptive text, especially was ommision errors.

Abstract

This study was to find out the teacher's perception of the use of appreciation as feedback in learning, pattern of appreciation and the student's response. The research method used qualitative with questionnaires instruments, 79 teachers and 30 students respondents. The results and findings are the 98.7% teacher knew about appreciation, 100 % importance of giving appreciation, 98.7% the necessity giving appreciation, 100% giving appreciation can increase student motivation, the teacher 96.2% gave appreciation to students who active or doing exercises, 94.9% gives appreciation to students who do exercises even the results are inaccurate, 98.7% giving appreciation can encourage students to achieve, 96.2% giving appreciation related to student learning achievements, 67.1%  giving appreciation too often can cause trust inflation in teachers, 79.7% giving appreciation related to teacher personality, 91% student at all levels of education require teachers’ appreciation, 58.2% teachers believe that all teachers always give appreciation. Forms of appreciation carried out by the teacher verbal 15.2%, Written 2.5%, Thumbs Up 0%, verbal / thumbs up 38%, verbal and applause 27.8%, verbal and gift something 16.5%, gifts something 0%. Student responses to appreciation were 60% for verbal and thumbs-up gestures, 35% verbal and written. 5% apreciation with gift.

Abstract

This study investigates the rhetorical movement of research article abstracts (RAA) and analyzes the language features used to achieve rhetorical moves. Genre analysis (move analysis) and corpus linguistics approach were employed to examine the rhetorical moves in RAA and to investigate the language features used to achieve moves in Islamic studies RAA. The corpus made in the present study consisted of 20 RAA taken from 5 reputable international journals in Islamic studies indexed by Scopus. Several stages were conducted to analyze the data using Hyland's (2000) framework model. The results of the study show that Hyland’s model of rhetorical move occur in RAA in the corpus. Some RAA applied at least three moves and others used all five moves. Out of five moves, M2 and M4 are deployed in all RAA in the corpus and they can be considered obligatory moves. Regarding linguistic realization, voice and tense were used to achieve rhetorical moves of RAA in Islamic studies.  Pedagogically speaking, this research is expected to provide important information regarding rhetorical movement and language features in writing RAA in the field of Islamic studies. This scholarly information may assist early career researcher in Islamic studies to write their research article before submitting to international reputable journals.
