Abstract

In this paper,we consider three models of quantum heat engines based on Carnot cycle using three energy levels; (1) the ground state, (2) the degenerate state, and (3) the highest energy state. We investigate the variation in the transition state by selecting three different degenerated states. The result we obtained still analogous with the classical heat engine efficiency and also the previous Quantum Carnot Engine model, which only depends on the initial width and the final width of the potential well in isothermal expansion. Moreover, the effect of transition state generally can be accepted for multistate quantum heat engines with 3D systems in cubic potential.

Abstract

Kata kunci: Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Mikro Hidro (PLTMH), Turbin crossflow, Efisiensi, Jorong tuah sakato, Nagari sawah tangah ABSTRACT The hilly conditions and the location of the river which is far from the center of settlement in Nagari Sawah Tangah make it difficult for the community to access water sources as basic needs and for irrigation of rice fields. Currently, the abundant springs in Jorong Tuah Sakato, Nagari Sawah Tangah, have been partially drained from a deep valley to people's homes and rice fields using electric pumps. However, this leaves the community with large electricity costs to meet their water needs. This community service activity aims to help the electricity costs of the Nagari Sawah Tangah community by building a Micro Hydro Power Plant (PLTMH) system by utilizing unused waste water. The activity is divided into several stages, starting with (1) conducting site inspections and counseling, (2) determining the installation location and design of pipes and crossflow turbines, then (3) making civil and mechanical turbine systems, and (4) conducting testing turbine system efficiency, and (5) community development. The difference in height between the position of the dam and the crossflow turbine is 15°. The flow of water that passes through the pipe to the turbine reaches 60 liters/second. The success of this turbine system is able to obtain a power of about 2600 W. Thus, this service activity is able to make the electricity cost paid by the community cheaper. Abstract

This activity aims to apply Bernoulli's law to the piping system in the hydrant pump to meet the needs of residents in bathing, washing, and irrigating the fields. The activity begins with conducting a site review survey, counseling and determining the location of pump placement, making pumps and towers, and lifting pumps and towers to the location. Then the activities at the location are divided into several parts, including the manufacture of civil and mechanical pump systems and testing the success of the pump system. This activity carried out the manufacture of hydrant pumps by installing pipes using Bernoulli's law to meet the needs of the residents of Jorong Batu Gadang, totaling 30 families and irrigating rice fields covering an area of 78 ha, which are rainfed rice fields. The results of the activities carried out at Nagari Katialo, Jorong Batu Gadang in applying the concept of Bernoulli's Law to the piping system at the hydrant pump made water faster to reach the highest point of the piping system that had been made. As for the difference in height between the position of the pump and the water level in the reservoir (tank) of 30 meters, the flow of water rising to the tank is 2 liters/second. The people of Jorong Katialo can already enjoy the water stored in the reservoir. The success of this pump system is shown from less than 10 minutes of testing the water successfully to the water reservoir above the tower with a height difference of 30 meters from the placement of the hydrant pump.

Abstract

COVID-19 has become a terrifying thing for everyone. The government has made several decisions to prevent the spread of this disease, such as the program of physical distancing where economic, educational, entertainment, social, and even religious activities are requested to be carried out at home. The physical distancing policy also has a negative impact. This program results in reduced community mobility and a sluggish economy. Many people working in the informal sector with a daily income are experiencing difficulties. They struggle to meet their daily needs, especially buying face masks and hand sanitizers. This problem has inspired our community service team at the Department of Physics FMIPA Andalas University, West Sumatra (Indonesia), to make a program to overcome this problem by distributing 400 pieces of cloth masks and 120 bottles of hand sanitizer accessible to the public. This activity was very beneficial for the community, shown by their enthusiasm when the stock of cloth masks and hand sanitizers was gone in one hour. Most people do not use masks in outdoor activities, not because they do not want to wear them, but because of economic constraints. There is a need that is more important than a mask. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, especially to the poor, the government must provide them with free masks.

Abstract

We study the performance of the quantum Lenoir engine using single-particle confined within the cubic potential. In 3D potential structure, particles degenerate into multiple states at identic energy level which occurs on the excitation state of the particles. Deliberating the degeneration effects, the confined particle has possibility to produce more energy efficiency as engine’s working substance. The particle is able to freely move in three directions of x, y, and z-axis simultaneously, which gives three degrees of freedom to the particle in the cubic potential. By limiting to two eigen states, a basic explanation to the condition of the particle was provided. The efficiency of 3D quantum Lenoir engine is better than the classical model of the Lenoir engine despite the similarity in the formulation. Moreover, we also consider the efficiency comparison between the 3D model, with some state modifications, and the 1D efficiency of the quantum Lenoir engine. As expected, degeneration of the particle’s states plays a role in the enhancement of the quantum Lenoir engine’s efficiency. Moreover, we also derived the power output of the 3D quantum Lenoir engine. Thus, this study clearly gives a sight of the performance of quantum Lenoir engine model in the 3D manner.

Abstract

We present an exact solution of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) for beam propagation in nonlinear fiber optics. It is a lossy fiber system with the beam as solitons. Fiber losses are understood to reduce the peak power of solitons along the fiber length. That is due to its value depending on the fiber attenuation constant of α. Considering fiber loss features on the equation, we write one set modification of the NLSE and make models the main topic of our work. We solved the model and found a straightforward analytical solution of modified NLSE for the system via the direct solution method. To the best of our knowledge, no literature has presented such as solution yet. By substituting them into equations, we validate solutions. It is valid as an exact solution to the NLSE. Lastly, we found a solution offering soliton propagation suitable for the system under study.

Abstract

Abstract

Nobita Hill is one of the areas being developed as a tourist attraction in the city of Padang. Above Nobita Hill is a beautiful view, and you can see the picture of Padang City. However, the hilly topography with steep slopes makes this area prone to landslides. This activity aims to map the potential for landslides on Novita Hill. Activities start from preparation, implementation in the field, and evaluation. Field activities are carried out in two stages. The first stage is an experiment to map the landslide potential. The second stage is socialization. The target audience for this activity is the Village Head of Jua Nan XX Village and its officials and the community around Nobita Hill. The results of the study and mapping were disseminated to the village administration and community leaders involved in the development of the Bukit Nobita tourism area, which was carried out on November 16, 2022. The result of tourist objects often changes land use and cover. However, mitigation of the potential for landslides in this area has never been done. Therefore, the Andalas University Physics Department team mapped the potential for landslides on Novita Hill for six months, using microseismic and geoelectric methods. This activity obtained a map of the distribution of dominant frequencies, a map of the distribution of amplification, and an identification of slip planes concerning the potential for landslides on Nobita Hill. Furthermore, the results of the mapping and mitigation efforts have been disseminated to the village administration and community leaders involved in the development of the Bukit Nobita tourism area. This activity was carried out well. The landslide potential distribution map obtained from this activity is input for the community and stakeholders in developing the Buki Nobita tourist attraction that is safe from disasters.

Abstract

The concept of electromagnetic induction is very important in understanding and developing modern electrical technology. Some factors cause students to often find it difficult to understand electromagnetic induction material in school is that this material involves abstract concepts such as magnetic flux, magnetic field changes, and emf. For some students, understanding these concepts may be difficult due to a lack of direct experience or concrete representations. Enrichment of physics material on electromagnetic induction has been implemented at SMA N 1 Gunung Talang. This service activity aims to improve students' understanding of the basic concepts of Electromagnetic Induction in Class XII. This service consists of three stages including: preparation, implementation and evaluation. The evaluation of this activity was carried out by comparing the pre-test results before enrichment and the post-test scores of students after being given enrichment material by the lecturer (service team). The results obtained show an increase in student knowledge towards understanding the concept of electromagnetic induction. This service activity can be an effort for school and university cooperation to support student success in understanding physics concepts that are considered complicated
