Abstract

Gas and Steam Power Plant (PLTGU) PT. PLN (Persero) Belawan Generation Control Implementation Unit (UPDK) is the main supplier of electricity needs in the Northern Sumatra System. In the initial period of operation, PLTGU PT. PLN UPDK Belawan uses diesel oil as fuel. The use of fuel originating from the bowels of the earth certainly produces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Since 2015, this PLTGU has started using natural gas as fuel. Changes in fuel use will affect the GHG emission load resulting from the Belawan PLTGU. This research aims to analyze the GHG emission load from the two types of fuel and examine the differences in GHG emissions when the conversion of diesel fuel to natural gas occurs. The emission load calculation uses the IPCC method and guidelines from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources with national emission factors, meanwhile, to carry out real difference tests using the WSR test from SPSS. The results of the emission load calculation show that there is a difference in the greenhouse gas emission load produced before using natural gas fuel and when using natural gas fuel of 20.85%. This shows that fuel conversion from diesel oil to natural gas can reduce the burden of household gas emissions

Abstract

Abstract

WHO announced a new outbreak disease, COVID-19, as a public health emergency that has plagued the world since January 30, 2020. Critical readiness and response are needed, such as equipping healthcare workers and facility management with important information, procedures, and tools to be safe and working effectively in responding to the outbreak. One of the critical hospital's services facilities is an isolation room/inpatient room. This room needs to be sterilized using a disinfectant regularly. The use of disinfectants, such as chemical fluids can only kill vegetative cells from microbes/viruses. Microbes/viruses, especially in the form of vegetative cells, could be killed by ultraviolet exposure. The objectives of this service program are: (1) Improving the cleanliness of hospital inpatient rooms so that they can be used immediately in treating patients (2) Speeding up the process of cleaning/sterilizing hospital inpatient rooms/isolation given the increasing number of patients in monitoring for covid-19 cases. The problem with inpatient sanitation/isolation in hospitals is usually many microbes in the indoor air. Clean and sterile inpatient/isolation rooms are needed in the patient's care. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the process of cleaning /sterilizing the inpatient room/isolation in the hospital by using UV exposure.

Abstract

Lack of access to proper sanitation is a major risk factor for infectious diseases such as cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid and polio. The Community-Based Total Sanitation Program in the first pillar of Stop Open Defecation aims to change people's lifestyles by using proper sanitation. However, the program has not run evenly. One of the areas that has not yet received the results of the policy is Dusun 13, Percut Village, Percut Sei Tuan, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra which is a coastal area. This community service was able to provide proper sanitation facilities and socialization of healthy lifestryle to the community especially housewife in this area. The construction of sanitation facilities are two bathrooms with a size of 2 x 1.5 m with closets in each room, a septic tank with a capacity of 15 people basen on Indonesia Standard with number 2398 : 2017, tested the water quality, and installed a water pump. Socialization to implemented healthy lifestyle properly done with 20 participants as housewife in this area. This community service is expected to improve the quality of life, prevent the transmission of waterborne diseases and prevent groundwater contamination

Abstract

School sanitation is one of the development priorities included in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely goal 4a is to build and improve educational facilities that are child-friendly, persons with disabilities, gender and provide a safe, non-violent, inclusive, and effective learning environment for all. The Development Private Elementary School is a private elementary school located in Patumbak District. This school is prioritized for the economically weak community whose parents work as laundry workers, construction workers, motorcycle rickshaw drivers and others. The foundation collects a tuition fee of Rp. 10,000/month, which is certainly not sufficient for school operational costs so that the development of school facilities and infrastructure is not up to standard. Environmental sanitation conditions in this school such as the availability of clean water is lacking, bathrooms are damaged, waste handling is not optimal, there is no place for washing hands. Based on these problems, the solution given is to improve proper sanitation conditions in the school by making boreholes with a depth of ± 10 m equipped with a pump to meet the water needs in the bathroom, renovating the bathroom, providing segregated trash cans and portable hand washing stations. In addition to providing in kind, this community service activity also provides socialization related to proper sanitation and clean and healthy living behavior to students.
