Abstract

Forest cover changes were influenced by many factors, some of which were biophysical characteristics, socio-economic conditions, and community cultural. The behavior of forest cover changes in each of Indonesia's regions varied, either its rate or its driving factors. The establishment of village typologies to categorize village administrative areas becomes important to see the driving factors that trigger forest change in each typology. The objective of this study was to develop the village typology and to identify the driving forces of forest cover change in each village in Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan. The development of village typology was done by applying the clustering approach with standardized euclidean distances. Based on the proportion of forest in 2015, the study found that there are two village typologies within the study area with 81% OA. The study also recognized that the most significant driving forces of forest cover change in T1 were the distance from rivers (X2) and settlements (X3), whereas in T2 were the distance from roads (X1) and the edge of forest in 2015 (X9). The study concludes that the proximity from the center of the human activities holds a significant influence on the behavior of forest cover changes.

Abstract

Lancang Kuning University Campus (UNILAK) is one of the campuses that has a fairly wide area and has enormous potential, especially related to the use of space whose potential has not been maximally utilized to support the Tridharma activities of higher education. The lack of land use is due to a more detailed inventory of land cover types that have not yet been carried out so that data and information related to existing land cover types are still very minimal. So it is necessary to identify the type of land cover and land cover characteristics at the Unilak Campus, to obtain information and data for further use. Land cover is the mention of biophysical appearance on the surface of the earth consisting of areas of vegetation, open land, built up land, water bodies and wetlands. One of the activities carried out for land cover data collection is land cover inventory activity using applications in the senses and GIS to collect data on land cover types in the study area coverage. Information on the types of land cover can be obtained from land cover data inventory activities through ground check activities or data collection on land cover conditions in the field.

Abstract

TWA Sungai Dumai is a tourist forest area and ensuring the preservation of natural potential. However, there are problems that can disrupt the sustainability of it, including forest and land fires and conversion of land use to agriculture and oil palm plantations. Until now, there is no vegetation analysis using satellite imagery in TWA Sungai Dumai, so it is important to do so that can be managed sustainably. This study classification of vegetation density classes which are presented in the form of a vegetation density class map in it. This research uses Landsat-8 OLI / TIRS images from October 2017 and October 2020 which are processed to determine density class using Normalized Difference Vegetation Index algorithm. The vegetation density class with the highest area in 2017 was the vegetation density class (2380,832 ha or 66,819% of the total area), while the lowest area was the non-vegetation class (75,737 ha or 2,126% of the total area). The vegetation density class with the highest area in 2020 in TWA Sungai Dumai is dense vegetation density class (3205,039 ha or 89,950% of the total area), while the lowest area is non-vegetation class (1,637 ha or 0.046% of the total area)

Abstract

Forest cover change is one of the environmental issues that continually gotten an international attention. This study describes how to develop a spatial model of forest cover change in each village-based typology by considering various bio-physical and social-economic factors. The village typologies were investigated by applying the clustering analysis approach. The objective of this study was to develop the spatial model and to identify the driving forces of forest cover change by village in Kubu Raya Regency of West Kalimantan. Based on proportion of forest in 2015, the study found that there are two village typologies within the study area with 81% overall accuracy (OA). The typology 1 (T1) which has low forest cover change rate of 5001.8 Ha per year consisted of 56 villages, while the typology 2 (T2) which has high rate of forest cover change of about 8050.6 Ha per year covered 34 villages. The study also recognized that the most significant driving forces of forest cover change in T1 were distance from rivers (X2) and settlements (X3), whereas in T2 were distance from roads (X1) and the edge of forest in 2015 (X9). The best spatial model of forest cover change are Y = -0.01+0.0001X2+0.0004X3 with OA of 83% and mean deviation (SR) 10.5% for T1 and Y = 0.02+0.0001X1-0.0002X9with OA 53% and SR 13.3% for T2. The study concludes that the proximity from the center of the human activities hold a significant influence to the behavior of forest cover changes
