Abstract

The development of forest and land cover classification methods was currently increasing rapidly, one of which is by utilizing remote sensing applications, namely UAV technology. One method with high accuracy that can be used to classify forest and land cover is the object-based image analysis (OBIA) classification method. There is an assumption that the results of orthophoto shooting will look the same at a glance, but each orthophoto result also has a different spatial resolution and affects the detail of each OBIA segmentation. This makes this research important to do how to classify forest and land cover in the Ghimbo Pomuan customary forest, Kenegerian Kampa, Kampar Riau at different flying heights of the UAV. This study aims to map forest and land cover classes based on the UAV flight height and analyze the UAV flight altitude on the resulting land cover classification. The method used is exploration and processing of UAV imagery. Starting with the preparation and determination of observation points, forest and land cover classification using the OBIA method at several UAV flight heights and data analysis. In the Ghimbo Pomuan customary forest area, several land cover classifications were produced using OBIA. The land cover classes include water bodies, forests, oil palm plantations and shrubs. Classification of land cover in the water body class has a tendency of under segmentation at UAV flight height of 120 m. Object details in the oil palm and shrub land cover class were higher at UAV flight heights of 100 m than at 120 m and 130 m, whereas in the forest class there was no difference.

Abstract

Infographics are a popular form of information today. Infographics use a visual concept approach combined with interesting illustrations because they combine data with colorful designs. Based on these advantages, infographics can be developed as an information and promotion medium for a nature tourism area, namely Ant Island Nature Tourism Pekanbaru. This activity aims to create infographics. The service was carried out at the computer lab of the Faculty of Forestry and Science, Lancang Kuning University, from December 2023 to January 2024. Partners are natural tourism managers, totaling five people. The activities carried out include providing materials, practicing the creation of infographics, assisting the community, and evaluating the partners' knowledge and skills. The evaluation results showed that the partners had increased their knowledge about the meaning, benefits, types, and examples, and how to make infographics of nature tourism on Semut Island, Pekanbaru, by 60%. In addition, the partners were also able to make infographics about the nature tourism area of Semut Island, Pekanbaru, in accordance with the knowledge that the partners had received.

Abstract

As a coastal area, Pulau Semut Nature Tourism Object is susceptible to environmental degradation. Therefore, it is imperative to implement conservation strategies to preserve the surrounding ecosystem, guarantee the sustainability of ecotourism, and preserve the buffer zone. This activity aims to expand partner knowledge regarding coastal environmental conservation and the planting of fruit tree seeds. The activities carried out included socialization regarding planting and environmental conservation, the planting of fruit plant seeds, the provision of trash bins, and the evaluation of partners. Following the service, there was a 47% increase in partner knowledge of planting activities as an effort to conserve the coastal environment. Partners already demonstrated proficiency in planting trees, with a 100% survival rate for seedlings. The success of this planting can be attributed to the utilization of quality seeds, proper planting and maintenance techniques.

Abstract

Topographic maps have several benefits, such as providing a basis for regional planning and identifying the vulnerability and hazards of an area. Therefore, making topographic maps is important for forestry students, especially using drone data. The purpose of the service is to increase the partners' knowledge about the use of drones for topographic mapping and basic knowledge about drone operation, and to improve the partners' skills by providing training in making topographic maps from data collected by drones. The activities carried out include providing materials on topographic map making and basic knowledge on drone operation. Furthermore, the practice of topographic map making and evaluation activities. There is an average increase of 25.52% in the partners' knowledge. The partners already have the skills to produce topographic maps. It's just that further training on map layout material is needed to maximize the topographic maps produced by partners.

Abstract

Acacia crassicarpa is a cultivated species in the Industrial Plantation Forest at PT. Arara Abadi, particularly in the Rasau Kuning District. One of the limiting factors for the growth of Acacia crassicarpa stands is weed infestations. At three months of age, weed infestations increased and became uniform across the Acacia crassicarpa stand area. To ensure that weed control measures yield effective and efficient results, it is essential to base these measures on information regarding the types and composition of weeds in the Acacia crassicarpa area. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze and identify the types of weeds found beneath the Acacia crassicarpa, which is three months old. This research method employs purposive sampling to select locations with dense weed populations for use as study plots. The analysis and identification of the weeds revealed nine species, including Goletrak (Borreria alata), which was the most prevalent, with 50 individuals recorded. Other species identified include Bundung (Cyperus odoratus), Wild Acacia, Ruas-ruas, Ramiding (Stenochlaena palustris), Sword Fern (Nephrolepis biserrata), Alang-alang (Imperata cylindrica), and Meniran (Phyllanthus urinaria). The range of the KR values was between 0.5% and 25.3%, while the FR values ranged from 2.4% to 14.6%. The BKR values varied from 0.3% to 18.8%, and the INV values ranged from 3.5% to 56.0%. The highest SDR value for Borreria alata was 18.7%, indicating significant dominance within the weed community. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H') was calculated at 1.96, categorizing it as a moderate level of diversity. Simpson's dominance index (D) was measured at 0.15, suggesting a stable level of weed dominance. Additionally, the Margalef species richness analysis (R1) results yielded a value of 1.51, indicating a low level of species richness among the weeds.

Abstract

Kuala Tolam Village, Pelalawan Regency, has forest areas and peatland ecosystems that play an important role ecologically, economically, and socially for the community. However, these areas have been experiencing continuous decline and pressure due to industrial activities and land-clearing practices. This condition requires a deeper understanding of stakeholder perceptions of forest functions, as an essential basis for building a commitment to preserve and maintain the remaining forest areas. The purpose of this study is to analyze stakeholder perceptions of forest functions in efforts to maintain forest areas in Kuala Tolam Village, focusing on three aspects: economic, social, and ecological. The research employed both quantitative and qualitative approaches, using interviews with stakeholders who were involved in discussion forums for the formation of commitments to protect forest areas in Kuala Tolam Village. The results show that stakeholder perceptions of forest functions in Kuala Tolam Village fall into the “agree” category across all measured aspects economic, ecological, and social. The positive perceptions of stakeholders regarding forest functions indicate a collective awareness of the importance of forests for life. This awareness serves as social capital for building a shared commitment to safeguarding forest functions and areas.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to enhance the competencies of Forestry students at SMK Negeri 1 Tualang, Siak Regency, in drone-based videography using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology. The training was conducted through an experiential learning approach that integrated theoretical instruction, technical demonstrations, and hands-on field practice. Training materials covered UAV fundamentals, flight safety, and aerial videography techniques relevant to forestry applications. The effectiveness of the program was evaluated using pre-test and post-test methods, supported by observations and interviews. The results indicated a substantial increase in the participants’ average scores, from 57.91% before the training to 96.51% after the training. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test revealed a statistically significant difference between pre-test and post-test results (p 0.05), confirming the positive impact of the training on students’ knowledge and technical skills. In addition, the program fostered improved confidence, discipline, and responsibility in drone operation. This activity contributes to strengthening vocational competencies and technological literacy in forestry education.
