Abstract

This research aims at improving students' problem solving skills. The type of research used is Classroom Action Research by implementing Lesson Study-based Problem Based Learning strategy as an effort to improve students’ problem solving skills. This study was conducted for 1 cycle consisting of two meetings. The results of this research show that LS-based PBL strategy can improve students' problem solving skills, from 30% during observation to 93%. The data of students' average problem solving skill scores reached 80.07. The achievement of this score has met the minimum standard score of State University of Malang, which is 55.00. Based on these results, learning by using LS-based PBL strategy can improve students' problem solving skills.

Abstract

Science learning in Early Childhood Education (ECE) plays a significant role in developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills from an early age. However, the level of professional competence among ECE teachers in delivering science lessons varies, particularly in remote areas such as the Merauke District. This study aims to evaluate the professional competence of ECE teachers in science education and identify the factors influencing its implementation. This research employs a descriptive method with a survey approach. The study subjects consist of ECE teachers in the Merauke District, selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and direct observations, which were then analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The findings reveal that most teachers have a basic understanding of scientific concepts but still face challenges in implementation. Several key factors influencing teachers' competence include educational background, the lack of continuous training, and limited learning resources such as teaching aids and supporting technology. These results indicate that improving teachers' capacity should be supported through more practical training and the provision of adequate learning facilities. This study concludes that strengthening the professionalism of ECE teachers in science education should be a primary focus of education policy, particularly in remote areas. The recommendations include enhancing practice-based training programs, providing better learning facilities, and fostering innovation in science teaching methods. Further research is suggested to explore more contextual teaching strategies suited to the social and cultural environment of the Merauke District.ABSTRAKPembelajaran sains dalam Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini (PAUD) memiliki peran yang signifikan dalam membentuk keterampilan berpikir kritis serta kemampuan memecahkan masalah sejak dini. Namun, tingkat kompetensi profesional guru PAUD dalam menyampaikan materi sains masih beragam, terutama di daerah terpencil seperti Distrik Merauke. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi tingkat kompetensi profesional guru PAUD dalam pembelajaran sains serta mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi penerapannya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan survei. Subjek penelitian mencakup guru PAUD di Distrik Merauke yang dipilih melalui teknik purposive sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan kuesioner, wawancara, serta observasi langsung, yang kemudian dianalisis secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan bahwa sebagian besar guru telah memiliki pemahaman dasar mengenai konsep sains, tetapi masih menghadapi kendala dalam implementasinya. Beberapa faktor utama yang mempengaruhi kompetensi guru meliputi latar belakang pendidikan, kurangnya pelatihan yang berkesinambungan, serta keterbatasan fasilitas pembelajaran seperti alat peraga dan teknologi pendukung. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan kapasitas guru perlu didukung dengan pelatihan yang lebih aplikatif serta penyediaan sarana pembelajaran yang memadai. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa penguatan profesionalisme guru PAUD dalam pembelajaran sains perlu menjadi fokus utama dalam kebijakan pendidikan, khususnya di wilayah terpencil. Rekomendasi yang diberikan mencakup peningkatan program pelatihan berbasis praktik, penyediaan fasilitas pembelajaran yang lebih optimal, serta inovasi dalam metode pengajaran sains. Penelitian lanjutan disarankan untuk mengkaji strategi pembelajaran yang lebih kontekstual dan sesuai dengan lingkungan sosial serta budaya di Distrik Merauke.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of the Business Model Canvas (BMC) as a strategic planning tool in a non-profit, community-based Early Childhood Education institution, using a case study of ECE Kemah Pujian in East Jakarta. The research contributes to the understanding of how BMC can be adapted within rural education settings characterized by diverse socio-cultural dynamics. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with school administrators, parents, and community partners, as well as through field observations and institutional documentation. The findings reveal that ECE Kemah Pujian has successfully developed a business model that emphasizes active community participation, the integration of local values, and flexible financing strategies. The institution’s main value proposition lies in providing early childhood education that is safe, affordable, and contextually relevant to local social needs. Its funding, sourced from voluntary contributions, village funds, and community donations, illustrates a high level of community empowerment. The interconnection of all nine BMC components, such as partnerships with local government and community leaders (key partnerships), and personalized approaches to engaging with parents (customer relationships), plays a crucial role in sustaining the institution. This study confirms that BMC can be effectively applied in non-profit educational settings and may serve as a strategic model for similar institutions in other areas. Furthermore, it demonstrates how local value-based business modeling can enhance the role of education institutions as integral actors in grassroots social development.

Abstract

Hydrogel is a water medium that functions to absorb water and nutrients for plants and release them slowly according to plant needs. Participants were elementary school age children in the Lampu Satu Indah housing complex in Merauke. The method uses lectures and practice. The socialization activities were carried out well, the participants were very enthusiastic. After participating in the socialization activities, participants gained new experiences and new knowledge.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to improve understanding of the concept of numbers using number fishing media in children aged 4-5 years at Kindergarten Pertiwi XI Merauke for the 2022/2023 academic year. This research is classroom action research and was carried out over 2 cycles. Each cycle consists of 4 stages, namely planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The subjects of this research were 8 children from group A of Kindergarten Pertiwi XI Merauke for the 2022/2023 academic year, consisting of 4 boys and 4 girls. Data collection techniques use observation and documentation. The instruments used are observation sheets for the ability to recognize number concepts and observation sheets for student and teacher activities. Data analysis uses descriptive statistical data analysis. The research results show that the use of number fishing media can improve children's ability to recognize number concepts. This can be shown from the learning success in the category of minimally developing according to expectations or three stars increasing from 12.5% ​​in the pre-cycle to 12.5% ​​in cycle I and 87.5% in cycle II. Apart from that, there was also an increase in student activity in the very active category of 25% in cycle I, an increase of 75% in cycle II and teacher activity in the learning process increased in both categories in cycle I and cycle II by 100%. So it can be concluded that the use of number fishing media can increase understanding of the concept of numbers in young children 4-5 years old at Kindergarten Pertiwi XI Merauke.

Abstract

The service aims to create a more conducive environment for Kindergarten Santa Maria Fatimah Merauke to implement early childhood health programs and prevent stunting. The methods used through the planning stages include identifying health problems to be addressed, analysing community needs, and formulating specific goals and steps to achieve them. The implementation stages include holding PHBS training for teachers and parents and health education for children. The evaluation stage involves collecting data on community knowledge, attitudes and behaviour regarding PHBS and health indicators such as children's nutritional status. The results of this PKM activity are a real example of the synergy between academics and the community in creating a healthy and clean environment. Musamus University is committed to continuing to support programs that benefit society, especially in health and education. Conclusion: The Community Partnership Service (PKM) Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) activities carried out at the Santa Maria Fatimah Merauke Kindergarten have achieved their main objective, namely, increasing the understanding and practice of PHBS among teachers and students.
