Abstract

Red chili (Capsicum annum L.) is one of the important horticultural crops, yet its productivity is still relatively low. This study aims to determine the productivity of red chili improvement through the use of inorganic fertilizer and biofertilizer. The factorial randomized group design (RAK) experimental design with 2 factors and 3 replicates (10 plants for each replicate) was used in this research. Factor I consisted of four doses of inorganic fertilizer (K), namely: 200 kg/ha (k1), 300 kg/ha (k2), 400 kg/ha (k3), 500 kg/ha (k4). Factor II consists of four concentrations of biological fertilizer (H), namely: 10 ml/L (h1), 20 ml/L (h2), 30 ml/L (h3), 40 ml/L (h4). The results showed that there was no interaction effect between the use of inorganic fertilizer (NPK) and the concentration of biofertilizer (M-Bio) on fruit weight per plant (g/plant) and fruit yield per hectare (t/Ha). However, the single use of biofertilizer with a concentration of 20 ml/L significantly increased the productivity of fruit weight (555.75 g/plant or 14.81 t/Ha). Biofertilizers such as phosphate solubilizing microorganisms and nitrogen-fixing bacteria can increase the availability of macro and micro nutrients in the soil and the productivity of chili significantly. The use of biofertilizers has the benefit of reducing farmers' dependence on inorganic fertilizers. Therefore, the use of a combination of inorganic fertilizer and biofertilizer not only can be a good alternative to increase the productivity of red chili effectively and sustainably, but also to reduce the negative impact of using inorganic fertilizer on the environment.

Abstract

Unpowered Automatic Fertigator (FONi) is an automatic irrigation technology without the use of electrical power that has been proven to be able to provide water as well as dissolved nutrients directly to the root area according to plant needs (evapotranspiration). In this activity, FONi was introduced to the Saung Kiray Farmer Group (Mitra) of Tasikmalaya City for the cultivation of organic fruit and leaf vegetables in a neglected yard. The problem faced by Partners is the difficulty in watering plants which has been done manually and limited access to appropriate technology. This service aims to turn the abandoned yard into a productive one. By applying FONi, the yard can now produce various types of organic fruit and leaf vegetables that are beneficial for health and become a pilot and learning location, especially for the surrounding community. The students involved now have skills and experience in designing and making FONi and together with Partners have mastered its installation and use. Also produced, means of disseminating information on this service activity in the form of posters, videos and news and articles that can be a reference for the wider community. To ensure its sustainability, it is necessary to synergise with the Ministry of Agriculture's Sustainable Food Yard (P2L) programme and the local Agriculture Office, especially to support the National Free Nutritious Meal.

Abstract

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a health complication that often leads to infertility in women. PCOS, as a reproductive-metabolic disorder, is also related to breast cancer and other diseases. Nevertheless, there is no universal drug for PCOS treatment. Hence, exploring a new candidate’s drugs is crucial. Estrogen receptor beta (ESR2) has become a significant marker for PCOS and has the potential to be used as a target for PCOS treatment. This study aims to explore the potential use of moringa as a nutraceutical. This study provides in silico data of selected compounds (naringenin, gallic acid, quinic acid, quercetin, apigenin, and kaempferol) in moringa leaves as a candidate drug for PCOS treatment targeting ESR2. Naringenin and apigenin showed a noteworthy calculated binding affinity score from docking into ESR2 (<- 7kcal/mol). Protein-protein analysis and gene analysis showed that ESR2 is expressed in varying tissues. It strengthens the potential use of moringa as a nutraceutical. This study showed that Moringa leaves have the potential to be used as a complement to PCOS treatment.

Abstract

Hydroponic cultivation of melon (Cucumis melo L.) Inthanon variety is a high-income potential product, especially in Tasikmalaya. Hydroponic offers an alternative modern agriculture that has high potential in land and water use efficiency. However, this system still faces challenges in nutrient use efficiency (NU) as well as the stability of plant growth and yield. This study aims to examine the effect of Effective Microorganisms (EM) application on nutrient use efficiency, growth, and yield of Inthanon melon in the hydroponic system. The study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method with 5 EM dose treatments (0, 150, 300, 450, and 600 ml/plant) and 5 replications. EM application was carried out by pouring it onto the growing medium/polybags according to the treatment dosage. Parameters observed included nutrient use efficiency, vegetative growth, and harvest yield. Based on the results, EM did not significantly affect the vegetative growth but rather affect generative growth, especially fruit weight in dose 450 ml/plant (P4). These results showed that EM can increase the yield of Inthanon melon variety.
