Abstract

Saponins are one of the secondary metabolites found in Shallot (Allium cepa L.), particularly in the roots. Microclimate differences in the cultivation area are thought to have a significant impact on the production of secondary metabolites, such as saponins. This research aimed to observe the saponins content in the root of shallot plants cultivated in marginal agricultural land and their antimicrobial activity against bacteria (Ralstonia solanacearum) and fungus (Fusarium oxysporum). This research was observational research with a random sampling method. The samples were collected from the shallot plantation with two different cultivation conditions. Two varieties of ‘Bima' and 'Tiron' cultivated by farmers in sandy coastal land Samas, Bantul were used. The plants were harvested at 1, 1.5, and 2 months after planting, respectively. The crude saponins extract was used to test antimicrobial activity. Shallot plants cultivated in marginal coastal sandy land produced higher saponins accumulated in their roots. The saponins production increased along with the maturity of shallot plants, both cultivated in marginal coastal sandy land and regular paddy field. The saponins extracted from the roots of shallots cultivated in both marginal and regular land showed higher antimicrobial activity than antifungal activity.

Abstract

Abstract

Non-optimal use of teaching materials and learning techniques impacts students' low skills, especially problem-solving abilities and learning independence. The study aims to develop a flipped classroom-based e-module that is feasible, practical, and effective in improving students' problem-solving skills and learning independence. This research and development use the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model. Next, the field trial design uses a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design, which means using two groups, namely experimental and control. The research subjects were students from SMA N 1 Seyegan who were selected using a cluster random sampling technique with a lottery system. Through drawing, class XI MIPA 3 was obtained as the control class and XI MIPA 4 as the experimental class, each consisting of 34 students. The data collection instruments used were product assessment questionnaires from material experts, media experts, biology teachers, and students, as well as independence questionnaires and problem-solving ability test instruments. Hypothesis testing was carried out using multivariate testing. The research results show that the e-module is considered suitable for use in learning based on material and media experts, is considered practical in its use according to the assessment of teachers and students, and is effective in improving problem-solving abilities and learning independence.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the differences in variations of crude papain enzyme concentration and optimal fermentation time on the microbiological quality of skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis L.) fish sauce. This research is an experimental study with two variables: 2 different enzyme concentrations (5% and 10%) and 3 different periods (3, 7 and 11 days). The microbiological tests include the Escherichia coli contamination test, total microbial test, and total lactic acid bacteria test. Physical tests include water content tests, pH tests, and organoleptic tests. The results showed that the enzyme concentration and fermentation time affected the microbiological quality of skipjack tuna sauce. The sample with an enzyme concentration of 10% and a fermentation time of 11 days was the best sample of skipjack tuna fish sauce because no E. coli bacteria were found (negative), the total BAL test result was 8.2 x 103 cfu/mL, and the TPC result was 7.1 x 103 cfu/mL which meets SNI standards for Fish Sauce No. 01-4271-1996. This sample also had the best organoleptic test results: a non-fishy aroma, savory taste, and dark brown color. Based on the pH test, samples with enzyme concentrations of 5% and 10% and a fermentation time of 3 days have a pH value that meets the requirements, namely 5.88 (pH requirement 5-6). The results of the water content test showed that all samples did not meet the standards.

Abstract

Biological material, one of which is the sensory system, whose objects are difficult to approach directly, requires more sophisticated learning media. This is because the sensory system learning process still uses 2D-based learning media which is difficult to display biological objects in real terms. Teachers and students need media that can visualize material well and can be accessed flexibly via smartphone. Technology AR, with its characteristics of being able to display objects in more detail in 3D and being able to be used on smartphones, could be a solution. This research aims to develop AR on human sensory system material. This research uses the ADDIE (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation). Data collection was carried out through expert validation and implementation of student responses. The material expert validation results were 98.25% and the media expert validation results were 89.25% (very good category). The teacher assessment results were 96.75%, and student responses were 83.5% (very good category). Based on these results, it is known that the AR media developed is suitable for use in learning sensory system material in biology learning
