Abstract

In the middle of a patriarchal culture, several females pushed the competition map for the 2024 presidential candidate which was dominated by males. However, the votes were insignificant and only a few names appeared in the survey results. Apart from the 30% affirmative action, the role of the media in promoting gender mainstreaming in politics is needed because news about female presidential candidates is still relatively rare. Therefore, this research aims to reveal the news of the 2024 female presidential candidate survey results presented by tirto. id, tempo.co, and kompas.com. This was conducted using the framing analysis method of the Robert Matthew Entman model consisting of two dimensions, namely issue selection, and aspect highlight, as well as four framing elements, including problem definition, sources, moral decisions, and problem-solving. The result showed several interesting points. First, all the media analyzed presented news about females’ inability and resources based on the results of various surveys. Second, all news presented an interpretive journalism model that reads and interprets survey data by experts. Third, although they try to deny the patriarchal ideology, the majority present male commentators who review female political communication. This means that ideology still surrounds the three online media studied. Keywords: Female presidential candidates, news, online media, framing analysis ABSTRAKDi tengah kultur patriarkhi, beberapa perempuan menyeruak peta persaingan capres 2004 yang didominasi capres laki-laki.

Bahkan ketika Presiden Abdurahman Wahid terjadi desakralisasi simbolsimbol negara. Istana Negara yang sangat angker ketika Soeharto berkuasa kehilangan daya magisnya

Abstract

The 2024 General Election will be held on February 14th, 2024. As this nation's most significant political agenda, all groups are involved in the 2014 General Election. Because of this, there is expected to be a discourse battle in every election involving political actors, the mass media, and the public. Not only do information and news form positive discourse, but negative discourse also spreads. The public, candidates, and state actors color the public media space with clear information and good news and salt it with dirty information. Hoax on social media in media and fake news among the masses in the 2024 general election threaten social cohesion and national integration, as happened in the 2014 and 2019 general elections. There must be efforts to stem the spread of hoax and fake news. One of them is digital literacy, including digital media literacy. This research aims to analyze the construction of digital literacy, including digital media, in the 2024 general election to stem hoax and fake news in the 2024 general election. This research uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and library data. The research results show that, firstly, the election moment is a time that is prone to the circulation of hoax and fake news. This is where digital literacy skills, including digital media literacy, emerge. Second, at a macro level, the state is responsible for digital literacy programs, including digital media literacy. Third, public communication between the Ministry of Communication and Information and the community is a vital bridge that must continue to be maintained and improve its effectiveness and efficiency so that the state's role in building digital literacy, including digital media literacy, is realized as quickly as possible.

Abstract

The development and practice of journalism are mainly determined by the availability of information and communication technology. Internet-based technology has transformed all lines of journalism. Journalism convergence is not only a trend, but also a necessity in the contemporary media industry. There are three types of journalism convergence, namely newsroom, newsgathering, and content.  In newsroom convergence, journalists from different platforms work together in one news production room and carry out their tasks in accordance with their media. Newsgathering convergence requires journalists to multitask, while content convergence or news content means that news is displayed in the form of multimedia content that combines texts, images, audio and others. This study aims to describe and analyze the practice of journalism convergence in Media Group Network and Mahaka Media. Using a qualitative approach, the researchers conduct observation, interview, and literature review as data collection techniques. This study finds that Media Group Network and Mahaka Media have already applied these three journalism convergence models (newsroom, newsgathering, and content). Media Group Network and Mahaka Media have been continuously and consistently applying those three aspects of journalism convergence. However, there are some differences in the journalism convergence process in Media Group Network and Mahaka Media, namely the code of ethics and training for journalists. Another difference is that Mahaka Media provides print on demand for its readers, while Media Group Network has broad coverage on journalism convergence through free to air television, Metro TV

Abstract

The integration of social media into religious practices exhibits a complex dichotomy. On one side, social media is primarily driven by the principles of virality, popular appeal, and commercial interests. Conversely, religious traditions emphasize silence, peace, and tranquillity. Initially, social media served as a communication medium and enhanced religious knowledge within communities. However, its use has evolved towards cultivating personal and collective identities. The passion to increase religious knowledge and gain religious experience is disrupted by the desire for artificial physical appearances shared in social media groups. This research aims to describe and analyze the use of social media among recitation women in Tangerang, Banten. This research utilized observation, interviews, and intertextuality as data collection and analysis techniques. This study indicates that the engagement of recitation women with social media necessitates religious and social media literacy. A lack of proficiency in these areas could adversely affect the quality of social media interactions, as social media platforms are inherently non-neutral and are influenced by particular ideologies and interests. Consequently, recitation women must adopt a discerning and critical approach to assess the incoming and disseminated content on social media.

Abstract

Political discourse preceeding the 2024 General Election has led to the contamination of the media landscape with hoaxes and fakenews. The public, candidates, and state actors not only compete with factual information and positive news, but also contends with the spread of misinformation and fake news. The prevalence of hoaxes on social media and fake news in mass media circulation prior to the 2024 General Election poses a tangible threat to social unity and national integration. This paper aims to analyze the model of public communication used to combat hoaxes and fakenews before the 2024 General Election done by the Ministry of Communication and Information and other stakeholders. The data for this paper is based on qualitative research carried out with data collection technique through literature searches, observation, and interview. The study discovered that the public communication model developed to combat hoaxes and fake news in advance of the 2024 General election has been ineffective. The fundamental weakness of the public communication model in eradicating hoaxes and fake news lies in the uneven application of the law inforcement and penalties. In addition, there are some elements of the public communication model that do not systematically show significant and consistent progress. At a macro level, this can be understood as the lack of clear roadmap and grand design to eliminate hoaxes and fake news in Indonesia. A clear plan or atrategy is needed for the long term establishment of a culture focused on the eradication of hoaxes and fake news.
