Abstract

This research aims to improve the argumentative text writing skills of class XI students at SMA Negeri 3 Medan using digital poster media. Many students experience difficulty in composing a good argumentative text structure, using appropriate language, and conveying arguments logically and persuasively. The results of this two-cycle Classroom Action Research (CAR) project showed a significant increase in students' writing skills. The proportion of students who completed their education increased from 33.33% at the beginning of the pre-cycle phase to 58.33% during cycle I, and then to 86.11% at the end of cycle II. These results prove that digital poster media is effective in improving the quality of students' writing, because it motivates them to learn and makes it easier to understand the material. Digital poster media can be used as an effective alternative to improve students' argumentative text writing skills

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to assess how much students of grade XI at SMA Negeri 3 Medan can improve their ability in writing argumentative texts by using paired cards as an aid. This study involved thirty-six students in grades XI–1-2. Quantitative and qualitative methods were used in the analysis of learning outcomes. This study was conducted in two cycles, cycle I and cycle II, including planning, action, observation, and reflection in each cycle. Observations during cycle I revealed that students had difficulty in creating argumentative texts, as evidenced by their average score of 79.47 and their classical completeness of only 63.84%. Cycle II showed an increase with an average score of 91.12 and classical completeness of 94.45% after introspection and improvement. The results of the study showed the benefits of paired cards media on students' ability to write argumentative texts, and it was proven that this approach was effective in the process of learning Indonesian.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini merupakan kolaborasi UMSU, UII Yogyakarta, dan UBINUS dalam mengintegrasikan SDGs melalui Collaborative Learning bertajuk "Integrating SDGs Through Collaborative Learning: Encouraging Gender Equity". Dilaksanakan 12 Oktober 2024 secara daring, diikuti 300 mahasiswa dari ketiga universitas selama 4 jam. Kebaruan kegiatan ini terletak pada: (1) penerapan Open Pedagogy sebagai pendekatan transformatif yang memposisikan mahasiswa sebagai co-creator konten kampanye gender yang dapat diakses publik, bukan sekadar penerima pengetahuan; (2) kolaborasi lintas disiplin (Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris, Psikologi, Bisnis) menghasilkan pemahaman holistik gender equity; (3) integrasi well-being sebagai fondasi keberlanjutan aktivisme mahasiswa. Open Pedagogy berfungsi mengubah paradigma dari teacher-centered menjadi student-centered dengan memberikan otonomi mahasiswa untuk menciptakan, berbagi, dan menyebarluaskan pengetahuan secara terbuka—bukan sekadar metode, tetapi proses pemberdayaan mahasiswa sebagai agent of change yang berkontribusi pada perubahan sosial. Kegiatan berfokus pada SDGs Goal 5 (Gender Equality) dan Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) dengan materi open pedagogy, gender equity, kampanye digital, dan pengembangan well-being aktivis sosial. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman gender 26.7% (pre-post test) dan komitmen kuat menjadi agen perubahan. Kontribusi signifikan meliputi: (1) pedagogis—model pembelajaran kolaboratif-transformatif yang dapat direplikasi; (2) sosial—produksi konten kampanye publik meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat; (3) akademik—bukti empiris efektivitas integrasi open pedagogy-SDGs di pendidikan tinggi Indonesia. Kegiatan ini menjadi model inovatif mewujudkan kampus sebagai ruang pembelajaran yang memberdayakan mahasiswa berkontribusi nyata pada perubahan sosial.
