Abstract

This experiment was conducted to study feed preference, eating behaviour, feed intake, feed digestibility as well as determination of protein and energy requirement for maintenance. This experiment was conducted at Wisata Angsana Garden and Animal Nutrition Laboratory of Animal Husbandry Faculty, Jambi University. One male and two female of Sambar deers with body weight ± 140 kg were used in this experiment. The animals were kept in free stall of 30x15 m. The experiment was divided into three steps: feed preference, eating behaviour and determination of maintenance requirement. The results indicated that Sambar deers preferred Asystasia spp leaf, Hyampeacne amplexicaulis, Axonopus compresus and Cynodon dactylon grasses. Over 12 hours, Sambar deers had eating activity of 319.45±19.35 minutes, rumination activity of 266.85±13.67 minutes, with a total rumination period of 8.16±0.43 and rumination cycles of 30.63±0.79 times per periode. Sambar deers had intake and digestibility of dry matter, crude protein, organic matter, crude fiber, and energy 2.43 kg, 0.66 kg, 2.15 kg, 0.37 kg, 9703.08 kkal GE per day and 74.38±5.22; 77.35±4.61; 87.87±2.47; 51.36±9.91; 67.89±6.54%, respectively. Sambar deers required protein and energy for maintenance as much as 0.44 kg per day or 3.17 g per kg BW and energy 5062.85 kkal DE per day or 36.16 kkal DE per kg BW. Abstract

The use of protein with low-cost, high quality, low methane, and ammonia emissions are a prerequisite as a protein source in ruminant. However, the European Commission has prohibited protein derived from fish meals for ruminant feeds. So encouraging efforts to explore the other protein sources to be most important. Most of the high protein legumes grow in tropical areas such as Indonesia and have the potential as an alternative protein source in ruminant feed, including Indigofera zollingeriana (25-27% protein content). But many browse legumes with high protein are a heterogeneous group of plants, with variable secondary metabolic content and rumen degradable protein. The aim of this experiment was to evaluate the characteristics fermentation of IZ as green protein supplement on in vitro methane, ammonia and microbial protein production. The experiment was a completely randomized design with four different level supplementation of Indigofera zollengeriana (IZ) as green protein concentrate and five replications. The treatment diets were R0; basal diet (60% forage + 40% concentrate) + 0% IZ, R1; R0 + 10% IZ, R2; R0 + 20% IZ, and R3; R0 + 30% IZ. The experiment result showed that supplemenatation of IZ was significant effects (P<0.05) to increase total gas, ammonia (N-NH3), total volatile fatty acid (TVFA), and metabolizable energy (ME) and significant effect (P<0.05) to decrease of methane and methane percentage. Supplementation IZ at a level of 10% was significantly higher for dry matter digestibility (DMD), organic matter digestibility (OMD), and microbial protein production (PPM) than diets treatment of R0, R2, and R3. The experiment concluded that Supplementation of I. zollingeriana (IZ) was able to reduce the methane gas production. Protein characteristics of IZ have easily degradable by rumen microbe showed the ammonia production was linearly increasing by 45.66% for each increasing level of IZ supplementation. Microbial protein production was higher (184.33 mg/ml) obtained of IZ supplementation up to 10% (R1). The experiment suggests doing protected protein of IZ when be used as a protein source in ruminant diets.

Abstract

Kualitas fisik biskuit konsentrat pakan sebagai pakan awetan di antaranya dipengaruhi oleh jenis dankonsentrasi perekat yang digunakan untuk menyatukan bahan-bahan penyusun pakan agar lebih padat.Perekatan bahan-bahan penyusun konsentrat atau pakan komplit akan sangat bergantung pada konsentrasibahan perekat yang digunakan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penggunaan berbagaijenis dan konsentrasi bahan perekat terhadap kualitas biskuit pakan konsentrat mengandung Indigoferazollingeriana sebagai pakan ternak kambing. Penelitian ini disusun dengan menggunakan rancangan acaklengkap dengan pola faktorial. Faktor pertama adalah jenis bahan perekat yang terdiri atas molasses, tepungubi kayu dan tapioka. Faktor kedua adalah konsentrasi bahan perekat yang digunakan yaitu: 3, 5, dan 7%dari total bahan yang digunakan. Peubah yang diamati dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitas fisik biskuitpakan meliputi uji organoleptik (warna, aroma, dan tekstur), kadar air, berat jenis, aktivitas air, kerapatanbahan, dan ketahanan benturan biskuit yang dihasilkan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa jenis bahanperekat berpengaruh nyata (P<0,05) terhadap hampir di semua peubah yang diamati, Sementara itu untukkonsentrasi bahan perekat berpengaruh nyata (P<0,05) terhadap kadar air, aktivitas air, kerapatan bahan,dan ketahanan benturan. Interaksi hanya ditemukan pada peubah kadar air dan ketahanan benturan. Darihasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa jenis bahan perekat yang terbaik adalah tepung ubi kayu dankonsentrai 5% merupakan konsentrasi yang terbaik untuk seluruh bahan perekat. Jenis bahan perekattepung ubikayu pada konsentrasi 5% adalah yang terbaik.Kata kunci: jenis bahan perekat, konsentrasi, kualitas fisik, biskuit konsentrat pakan

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian biskuit konsentrat pakan mengandungIndigofera dan sengon terhadap konsumsi ransum, dan irisan komersial karkas kambing PE. Penelitianini dilaksanakan di Farm Fakultas Peternakan Universitas Jambi. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakanpada penelitian ini yaitu Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) dengan 2 perlakuan dan 10 ulangan. Totalunit penelitian adalah 20 unit percobaan. Perlakuan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah sebagaiberikut; P0 : 60% rumput alam + 40% konsentrat basal (kontrol) dan P1 : 60% rumput alam + 40% biskuitkonsentrat pakan. Parameter yang diamati yaitu konsumsi ransum dan irisan komersial karkas. Data yangdiperoleh dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis ragam (ANOVA) menggunakan aplikasi SAS guna melihatpengaruh pemberian biskuit konsentrat terhadap parameter yang diukur. Sedangkan Uji-t dilakukan untukmelihat perbedaan nilai pemberian biskuit konsentrat tersebut. Hasil analisis ragam menunjukkan perlakuanpemberian biskuit konsentrat berpengaruh nyata (P<0,05) meningkatkan konsumsi ransum dan beberapairisan komersial karkas kambing PE. Dari hasil penelitian yang telah dilakukan, dapat disimpulkan bahwapemberian biskuit konsentrat yang mengandung indigofera dan sengon mampu meningkatkan konsumsiransum, beberapa irisan komersial karkas yaitu leg, neck, rack, dan breast.Kata kunci: Biskuit konsentrat, kambing PE, konsumsi, irisan komersial karkas

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to determine the nutritional quality of fermented feed containing banana plant waste that will be given to native chickens in Sidolego Village to accelerate the achievement of Sidolego Village as a chicken center village.Methods: The ingredients used to make fermented feed were banana tree waste, black garlic, curcuma, maize, rice bran, fish meal, and coconut meal. All ingredients were ground into flour, mixed thoroughly, and fermented using a solution of Effective Microorganisms 4 (6ml EM4: 6gram sugar: 1-liter water). The study was designed into a completely randomized design with 4 treatments; length of fermentation (1, 2, 3, and 4 days) and 5 replications. The parameters were the nutrient content (dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, crude fiber, and crude fat) and metabolizable energy. Results: The results showed that the fermentation time significantly affected (P<0.05) the nutrient content and energy of fermented feed. Fermentation for 3 days significantly decreased dry matter, crude fiber, nitrogen-free extract, and metabolizable energy. The fermentation period did not significantly affect organic matter and crude fat content, but it significantly increased crude protein content. Conclusions: It was concluded that feed containing banana tree waste fermented using EM4 for 3 days had sufficient nutrients especially crude protein content (20%) and might be offered to the growing local chickens in Sidolego Village and meet their nutrient requirement. It is recommended that the results of this study be followed up on feeding to local chickens kept in Sidolego Village to know its effect on local chicken performance.

Abstract

ABSTRAKProduktivitas ternak ruminansia, khususnya ternak sapi yang rendah sehubungan dengan ketersediaan dan akses terhadap pakan berkualitas yang kurang, dan minimnya pengetahuan tentang cara pembudidayaan hijauan khususnya legum pohon merupakan permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh peternak di kelompok Tani Rukun Makmur, Tangkit, Jambi. Disamping beternak, para peternak juga melakukan kegiatan pertanian yang didominasi oleh tanaman sayuran. Tujuan kegiatan Pengabdian Pada Masyarakat (PPM) ini untuk mengenalkan potensi Indigofera zollingeriana sebagai hijauan pakan ternak berkualitas dan pemberian bibit / benih I. zollingeriana ke peternak di kelompok Tani Rukun Makmur, Tangkit, Jambi. Metode yang dipakai dalam pencapaian tujuan adalah pendidikan masyarakat melalui penyuluhan. Solusi yang ditawarkan meliputi: 1) peningkatan pengetahuan peternak tentang pakan hijauan berkualitas dan cara budidayanya dalam lahan usaha tani sayuran melalui penyuluhan, dan 2) introduksi dan pemberian benih dan bibit. Kegiatan PPM yang meliputi penyuluhan dan penanaman bibit Indigofera berjalan lancar. Pelaksanaan penyuluhan terjadi di lapangan bersamaan dengan penanaman seluruh bibit yang diberikan. Hasil kegiatan pendampingan, peternak juga melakukan pembibitan dari benih yang diberikan. Kegiatan PPM ini diliput oleh media televisi lokal untuk disiarkan sekaligus sebagai ajang promosi bagi kelompok Tani Rukun Makmur yang menggeluti usaha penggemukan sapi. Kata kunci: Introduksi; Indigofera zollingeriana; pakan berkualitas; pendidikan masyarakat ABSTRACTThe low productivity of ruminants, especially cattle, is related to the availability and access to poor quality feed, and the lack of knowledge about how to cultivate forages, especially tree legumes, is a problem faced by farmers in the Rukun Makmur Farmer Group, Tangkit, Jambi. Besides raising livestock, the farmers also carry out agricultural activities which are dominated by vegetable crops.The purpose of this community service (PPM) activity was to introduce the potential of Indigofera zollingeriana as high-quality forage for livestock and provide I. zollingeriana seeds and seedlings to farmers in the Rukun Makmur Farmer group, Tangkit, Jambi. The method used in achieving the goals was community education through outreach activity. The solutions offered include: 1) improving farmers’ knowledge about quality forage and how to cultivate it in vegetable farming fields through outreach activity, and 2) introduction and provision of seeds and seedlings. The activities which included outreach activity and planting of Indigofera seedlings went right. The outreach activity took place in the field at the same time aplanting all the seedlingsas given. As a result of mentoring activities, farmers also carried out nurseries from the seeds provided. This outreach activity was broadcasted by local television media and a promotional event for the Rukun Makmur Farmer group, which has cattle fattening business. Keywords: high quality forage; Indigofera zollingeriana; introduction; community education

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari adanya perbedaan produktifitas induk berdasarkan musim kawin pada musim hujan dan musim kemarau dan diharapkan untuk perbaikan manajemen dan seleksi kearah mutu genetik yang lebih baik untuk dijadikan ternak bibit. Materi penelitian terdiri dari turunan 89 ekor anak dengan jumlah frekuensi melahirkan sebanyak 78 kali. Kemampuan produktifitas induk dianalisis dengan metode analisis ragam kuadrat terkecil dengan jumlah contoh yang tidak sama dalam setiap subklas. Analisis ragam faktor musim terhadap banyak anak lahir dan banyak anak sapih tidak berbeda nyata (P>.05), kecuali pada awal musim hujan kemampuan hidup anak berbeda nyata (P<.05) lebih rendah dibanding dengan pertengahan dan akhir musim hujan dan awal, pertengahan dan akhir musim kemarau. Service Periode dan Intreval Kelahiran nyata dipengaruhi oleh akhir musim hujan dan awal musim kemarau (P<.05). Hasil penelitian ini disimpulkan bahwa service periode serta interval kelahiran pada akhir musim hujan dan awal musim kemarau menjadi lebih pendek, dengan produktifitas induk untuk banyak anak lahir sebesar 214 persen dan banyak anak sapih 198 persen.

Abstract

Storage period is one of the factors which affect the physical and chemical quality of the stored material. This study aimed to determine the effect of storage period on the chemical quality of livestock concentrate biscuits con- taining Indigofera and sengon. Four periods of storage period were arranged in a completely randomized design which was repeated 5 times. The storage period consisted of 0, 7, 14 and 21 days. The chemical qualities observed in- cluded moisture and ash content, crude protein and crude fiber. The results showed that storage period significantly reduced the moisture content of concentrate biscuit, while the ash content, crude protein and crude fiber were not affected by storage period. It was concluded that the concentrate biscuits containing Indigofera and sengon could be stored for up to 21 days with good chemical quality.

Abstract

Biogas slurry is an organic product derived from livestock manure and produced through an aerobic fermentation process that can be used to improve soil fertility, forage production, and quality. This study aimed to investigate the effect of slurry organic fertilizer on crude protein content, crude fiber, and total fermentation gas production in the rumen in vitro . The study was conducted in a completely randomized design (CRD), consisting of five treatments of slurry levels as organic fertilizer and four replications consisting of two experimental units. The treatments consisted of S0 = without slurry, S1 = slurry 20 g/polybag, S2 = slurry 25 g/polybag, S3 = slurry 30 g/polybag, and S4 = slurry 35 g/polybag. The variables measured in this study were crude protein content, crude fiber, and total fermentation gas production. The data obtained were analyzed using a variance analysis (ANOVA). Duncan’s test was used to determine the effect of different levels of slurry on the measured parameters. The results showed that the use of slurry as an organic fertiliser increases crude protein content by an average of 16.06%, increases crude protein production from 1.47 g/poly bag to 96.38 g/poly bag and improves fermentability in the rumen by an average of 8.08% of setaria grass (Setaria splendida Stapf). The use of slurry at the level of 35 g/poly bag is recommended for the cultivation of setaria grass (Setaria splendida Stapf).

Abstract

The recognition of processing chicken nuggets by the group of farmers in Sidelego village is an alternative to increase added value from the use of meat from the old chicken. This community service aims to increase the knowledge and skills of the farmers in Sidelego village utilizing chicken meat as a chicken nugget product. The community service activity involved 20 participants from a farmer's group in Sidelego village. The procedure for this activity is designed in 4 stages, including the preparation, training, demonstration, and evaluation of the activity. The farmers' first evaluation showed that most had consumed chicken nuggets; however, they had never tried to make chicken nugget products. The farmers' response to this activity was perfect, and they actively participated in the delivery of training materials and the practice of making chicken nuggets. The evaluation at the end of the activity, most of the participants (80-90%) were able to understand the materials of the training, and they could make chicken nugget products with a high level of acquisition. About 70% of participants with a moderate acquisition level could design modified nugget products with various kinds or variants, such as nuggets with additional ingredients, such as various types of vegetables or tempeh. Based on the preference test, most of the participants gave an assessment of chicken nugget products in the range of preference levels from the moderate to like a category on the color (80.00%), aroma (80%), taste (70.00%) and texture (80%). It was concluded that most participants (80-90%) understood the process of producing chicken nuggets. The chicken nuggets product can be received very well with the preference level in all categories (color, aroma, taste, and texture).
