Abstract

The Effect of Planting Media and Varieties on the Yield of Melon (Cucumis melo L.) in Drip Irrigation Systems Melon (Cucumis melo L.) is a fruit crop including the family Cucurbitaceae. Melon is not a plant native in Indonesia but can grow in the tropical region. This fruit is very popular in the community and is often used by hotels as a welcome fruit. Badan Pusat Statistik's (2019) data stated that melon production in Bali increased in 2019 to reach 552.00 tons. This study aimed to obtain the appropriate planting medium for melon cultivation by drip irrigation systems in a greenhouse. The treatments consisted of three types of planting media: husk charcoal media, cocopeat, husk charcoal mixture with cocopeat, and melon varieties suitable for cultivation in a greenhouse using drip irrigation. The results showed the treatment of cocopeat could increase the development of melons. Cocopeat (Mc) can be increase the yield and quality of melons, and this can be seen in the fruit weight (1,214.50 g/plant) and total dissolved solid (11.87 0briks). Golden melon variety (Alisha F1) was able to produce sweeter fruit (11.97 0brix), but the fresh weight was lower (887.33 g / plant).

Abstract

Effects of Using Multiple LED Beams on Red Dragon Fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus). Red dragon fruit plant (H. polyrhizus) is a tropical plant and is very adaptable to growing environments and weather changes such as sunlight, wind, and rainfall. Dragon fruit plants is a long day plants (plants that require long enough sun exposure), which means that to produce this plant requires at least 12 hours of radiation. Knowing this, there needs to be a solution so that production stability can be controlled, one of which is by modifying the environment. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of several colors of LED light (Light Emitting Diode) at the initiation stage of dragon fruit flowers in an effort to increase production. This study used a randomized block design with four treatments and nine replications, while the treatment consisted of control plants, the administration of white LED lights, yellow LED lights and blue LED lights. Three variables were observed, namely the number of flower buds, the number of blooming flowers and the number of young fruits. The results showed that the use of yellow LED lights give the best light intensity when compared to other treatments so that the yellow LED light treatment gave the best results on each variable including 6.44 pieces for flower buds, 7.56 pieces for flowers blooms and 7.56 pieces for young fruit.

Abstract

The Growth and Development of the Prabu Bestari Grape Seedling on Various Compositions and Water Content of Growing Media. The growth and development of the grape seedling influenced by the presence of solar and ground water energy. Prabu Bestari is a originally variety introduced by Balitjestro from Australia after being assembled with the selection process. The need for this variety of agroclimates is in accordance with the North Bali region as a production center. The bud break in grape plant can be affected by condition of plant media during the seedling procession. Shoot failure in grapes can be caused by the condition of the planting medium in the nursery process. This study aims to determine the growth of grape seedlings that are treated with the use of planting media (soil, soil, chaff, soil + cocopeat, and soil compost) 1: 1 (v / v) mixture ratio. The planting media treatment will be combined with different water content (100%, 75%, and 50% of the field capacity conditions). The study was conducted in a green house at the Experimental Station of Faculty of Agriculture Udayana University from May to August 2018. The research used factorial method (4 x 3) which was designed randomly in groups with three replications. The results showed no interaction on all parameters observed. Increasing length of tendrils (148.16 cm) and number of leaves (26.58 strands) looks better with increasing groundwater content up to 100% of field capacity, whereas the resistant mixture + compost gave the highest increase in tendril length (131.91 cm) and the number of leaves (26.56 pieces). The highest chlorophyll content of the leaves reached 28.68 SPAD unit in a mixture of soil + compost treatment and the lowest was in land use + cocopeat with 18.99 SPAD unit. While the highest leaf chlorophyll content due to water content treatment was shown in 100% of field capacity treatment of 27.84 SPAD unit.
