Abstract

TiO2 or commonly called Titanium dioxide is a semiconductor transition metal. This metal is commercially shaped white powder. This material is often used in research into the development of photocatalysts effects in material. TiO2 is used in paints as compounds that give rise to self-cleaning properties. This property is the nature of a material to clean itself from impurities. Self cleaning works with the help of the photocatalyst effect, which is where with the help of photon energy. Therefore semiconductor material can be used in these properties. This is because Titanium dioxide is a semiconductor compound which has a band gap energy of 3.2 eV for the anastase phase, and for the rutile phase of 3.0 eV. This study aims to determine the effect of calcination temperature on the characteristics of TiO2 compounds. In this research, TTiP is a precursor of TiO2 synthesis, and the method used is the sol-gel method. After synthesis, TiO2 is calcined at 400°C, 450°C, 500°C, and 550°C. The characterization carried out in this research is to use the Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) instrument that functions to determine the functional groups formed and the X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) instrument which functions to determine the phase composition of the compound. From the research that has been carried out obtained functional groups -OH, Ti-O, and Ti-O-Ti. This shows that TiO2 was successfully formed through the sol-gel method. In the phase analysis, the results showed that TiO2 is in the anastase phase. This shows that TiO2 can function well when applied to photocatalysts Keywords: Titanium Dioxide (TiO2), Calcination Temperature, photocatalysts, Self cleaning

Abstract

The need for fresh food continues to increase. Fresh food has a short shelf life. This can be overcome by active packaging containing antimicrobial substances. Zeolite is modified by ion exchange with silver, where silver acts as an antimicrobial agent. This study aims to study the changes in the mechanical properties of the PVA/chitosan mixture with the addition of zeolite-Ag compared to without the addition of zeolite-Ag. The variation in this study is the addition of zeolite-Ag to the PVA/CS composite, namely (0.025; 0.05; 0.1; 0.2)%. The films that have been made were analyzed in terms of mechanical properties, FTIR, and surface morphology microstructure. Composite films containing zeolite-Ag showed an increase in tensile strength and elasticity, where confirmed zeolite can be used as a reinforcing material in polymer matrices. The composite film with 0.025% zeolite-Ag content has a tensile strength value of 46.534 MPa, because zeolite-Ag can be homogeneously dispersed in the polymer matrix. FTIR analysis showed that the mixture of PVA and chitosan proved to be uniformly mixed. Morphological microstructural analysis showed homogeneous surface results, there was no visible appearance of zeolite-Ag aggregates on the PVA/CS film, whereas on films containing 0.025% zeolite-Ag there was a heterogeneous surface and the appearance of black circles indicating the presence of zeolite-Ag. Abstract

The discussion about adding silver-substituted zeolite on the composite chitosan/PVA has been done with the percentage of silver-substituted zeolite (0,025;0,05;0,1; and 0,2(%w/v)). The ion exchanged between zeolite and silver by immersion method, which is ions Ag+ will doped on to zeolite replace the ions Na+. The Chitosan/PVA films have been obtained are characterized using FTIR and SEM and tested for mechanical properties using Autograph Microcomputer Control Universal Testing. The obtained data indicated that adding zeolite doped with silver increase the mechanical properties of a film. The best mechanical properties showed on addition zeolite/Ag 0,2 (% w/v) with tensile strength 32,733 MPa, elongation at break 42,8%, and modulus young 0,765 Mpa. Functional group identification result by FTIR showed a shift in the O-H and N-H vibration to a lower frequency caused by the addition of zeolite/Ag to the film. Morphological characterization using SEM showed that there are differences on surface morphology between chitosan/PVA before and after the addition of silver-substituted zeolite, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) results show there is small particles due to the presence of Zeolit/Ag. Abstract

This study aims to make a composite material from chitosan and ZnO as well as its application as a hydrophobic agent for cotton fabrics through a chitosan-ZnO composite coating process on cotton fabrics. The manufacture of chitosan-ZnO composites used the sol-gel method with variations in the volume ratio of chitosan to ZnO, namely 7:3, 6:4, 5:5, 4:6 and 3:7. The hydrophobicity of cotton cloth coated with chitosan-ZnO composite was measured using the water contact angle (WCA) method and the highest water contact angle was 131º for the variation of chitosan: ZnO of 7:3. Characterization of chitosan-ZnO composites using FTIR and XRD instruments The FTIR results show an interaction of chitosan with ZnO, this is supported by the presence of C=O groups observed at wave numbers 1556 cm-1, C-N groups appear at 1397 cm-1 and 1338 cm-1, –OH and –NH groups are detected at 3242 cm-1, O-Zn-O bonds were identified at 425 cm-1 and also –C-O-C- bonds between the chitosan group and ZnO were seen at 1019 cm-1 and 1052 cm-1. XRD results showed peaks at 2θ 37.1º, 246.82º and 68.31º indicating the presence of a ZnO nanoparticle crystalline phase and characteristic peaks of chitosan at 2θ 10.6º and 2θ 21.8º. The results of FTIR and XRD characterization show that the chitosan-ZnO composite has been successfully synthesized. Key words: Hydrophobic, Chitosan-ZnO Composites

Abstract

Rice husk ash is a material that mostly contains silica (SiO2). Silica can be used as a raw material for various industries. This research is an experimental study, covering the synthesis of rice husk ash with various calcination temperatures, namely 800 oC, 900 oC, and 1000 oC. The purpose of this study was to identify the type of solid and crystalline phases of RHA so that the results of this study could be used as a basis for further research on the use of RHA. The results of the synthesis produced four types of samples, namely samples calcined at a temperature of 800 oC (coded S-800), calcined at 900 oC was gray (S-900 A), calcined at 900 oC was white (S-900 P), and samples were calcined at a temperature of 1000 oC (S-1000). Characterization using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) showed that all samples included crystalline solids with the tridymite crystal phase and cristobalite were detected in samples S-800, S-900 P, S-900 A, and S-1000. Cristobalite and tridymite are silica mineral polymorphs with the same chemical formula as quartz, SiO2, but have different crystal structures. The percentage of crystallinity of the sample was calculated by comparing the sample which has the highest peak intensity (S-1000). The crystallinity results for S-1000, S-900 P, and S-900 A were 100%, 96%, 79%, and 32%. The lower the calcination temperature, the smaller the percentage of crystallinity. Abstract

This study aims to determine the release of nitrogen levels in fertilizer samples by varying the ratio of zeolite volume to cationic surfactant mass and knowing the chemical characterization of FTIR. In this study natural zeolite and hexadecyltrimethylammonium (HDTMA) were used as the main ingredients. Fertilizer production in this study by activating natural zeolite using 1M HCl then added surfactant HDTMA 0.05M with a ratio of 1: 1, 1: 3, 1: 5, then added a 0.05M NaNO3 solution as a nitrogen source which then tested slow release on land for 7 days. The results of the chemical characterization of FTIR showed a band shift in activated zeolite, HDTMA modified zeolite (1: 1), and ZMS (I). The release of nitrogen levels on day 0 of ZMS (I) was smaller than 0,00059% but on day 7 the nitrogen release was smaller in zeolite activated by 1.3339% compared to ZMS (I) which on day 7 was 1.625% .
