Abstract

Abstract Climbing perch (Anabas testudineus) is one of freshwater fish living in the swamp area in the Sawah Village. Information on the biological aspect of this fish, however, is limited. A study aims to understand the reproductive biological aspect of this fish has been conducted from March-April 2018. The fish was sampled once/week for a month period. They were 100 fishes, 36 males and 64 females. Sex ratio of females and males was 1:2.2. In each sampling time there were male fishesin 1st, 2nd, and 3rd while female fishes 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th maturity level. The gonado somatic index (GSI) in males were around 0.12-3.33% and females were around 0.68-10.23%.The female’s fecundity were arround 20,193-28,500 eggs/fish, and mature egg diameter ranged from 0.4-0.7 mm.Keywords : Climbing perch, Sex ratio, gonad maturity level, GSI,

Abstract

AbstractSail River is a polluted river in Riau, however, many types of fish, including catfish Pangasius polyuranodonBleeker (1852) is living in that river. The water condition of the river may effect the fish health status in general, including its gill structure. A study aims to understand the histological structure of the gill of that fish has been conducted in February-March 2018. Abnormality in the gill was noted and abnormality level was identified using a Histopathological Alteration Index (HAI). Results shown that the types of abnormality present were hyperplasia/cell proliferation, hypertrophy, odema or swelling, atrophy, blood vessel congestion, hemorrhage, and ruptured epithelium. The minimum HAI value obtained is 0.142, and maximum value is 1.857 ( average 1.031), indicates that the gill of P. polyuranodon from the Sail River is categorized as less damage. Keywords: Histopathological Alteration Index (HAI), gill abnormality, polluted river, Catfish

Abstract

AbstractPangasiushypophthalmus is nocturnal fish that grow well in dark condition. In dark condition however, phytoplankton may be none, the water become rich in organic materials and this condition is match for developing parasites and pathogen that negatively affect the fish.  Tounderstand the health status of the fish in general, the histologcal structure gill, kidney and liver was investigated. The results were then compared to those obtained from fish taken from the Siak River. The research was conducted on Agustus-Desember 2019. There were 4 treatments applied, namely control (natural photoperiod), 18G(18 hours dark ) and 24G (24 hours dark), 3 repetitions/ treatment. Parameters  measured were survival  rate and the histological structure (gills, kidneys and liver). Samples were fixed in 5% formalin and histologically processed and stained with Haematoxylin Eosin. Results shown that in general the histological structure (gill, kidney and liver) of the treated fish and the fish from the Siak River are not different. There were abnormalities in the gill, such as hyperplasia, hypertrophy, odema and necrosis.  Inthe all fish there are Dactylogyrus sp parasites that may caused the gill damage. The histological structure of kidney and liver are normal. Data obtained indicate that the damage of the gill may caused by the presence of the parasite and it is not affected by the manipulated photoperiod.           Keywords: Health Status, Siak River, Histological Structure, Dactylogyrus sp.
