Abstract

Hypertension is the leading cause of premature death worldwide. Physiologically, as someone ages, their risk of developing hypertension increases. The objective of this activity is to enhance the knowledge of health volunteers regarding hypertension and its prevention as an effort to prevent hypertension in the elderly, particularly in the Koto Baru Nan XX Village, Lubuk Begalung District, Padang City. The method involves educational sessions and hypertension exercise training. The activity takes place at the Office of the Head of Koto Baru Nan XX Village, Lubuk Begalung District, Padang City. The target audience comprises 25 health volunteers working in elderly integrated health posts. The program includes lectures on hypertension and a demonstration of hypertension exercises. Additionally, pre-tests and post-tests are conducted to assess participants' knowledge levels before and after the training. The statistical analysis revealed a p-value of 0.0001, indicating a significant difference in the knowledge level before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the hypertension training among the health volunteers in Koto Baru Nan XX Village, Lubuk Begalung District, Padang City. On average, there was a significant increase in the knowledge level of the volunteers after the training. The average knowledge level of the volunteers significantly improved after the educational sessions compared to before. It is hoped that through this activity, health volunteers can encourage and teach hypertension exercises to the attendees of the elderly integrated health posts in Koto Baru Nan XX Village on a regular monthly basis.

Abstract

The problem of increasing the incidence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a very important thing to overcome, the implementation of prevention and control is one way out of this problem. Based on the current situation in the field, it seems that there are always cases of DHF in the city of Padang every year, so it still needs to get more attention. For this reason, the education sector needs to support this effort by holding training and forming larva monitoring students (Wamantik) in schools. This activity aims to increase students' knowledge about DHF and prevention efforts, as well as the formation of Wamantik in schools. This activity was carried out at State Elementary School (SDN) 39 Pasar Ambacang, Padang City. The target audience is a representative of elementary school students from grades 3 to grade 6, each of which is 3 people so that the number of participants is 12 people using the educational counseling method and hands-on practice. The results of this activity began with an introduction by the community service team. The next activity is the delivery of materials and training related to DHF, methods of transmission of DHF, symptoms/signs of DHF, help for DHF sufferers, introduction to DHF vectors, and efforts to prevent DHF, as well as the importance of forming a pattern in schools and the form of implementation. Participants were enthusiastic in participating in the activity. From the results of the pretest and post test, it was found that participants' knowledge increased before and after carrying out activities related to DHF and Wamantik. It can be concluded that the education carried out can increase participants' knowledge related to DHF and Wamantik.

Abstract

The transition of children to adulthood through adolescence tends to be more daring to take risks so that it has an impact on reproductive health problems such as promiscuity leading to premarital sex, abortion, and the emergence of HIV-AIDS. So far, the government has carried out prevention through the Youth Care Health Service (PKPR) and has been implemented throughout Indonesia, including the city of Padang. However, the scope of services provided is still low. This study was conducted to examine the knowledge of high school students in the use of PKPR in Padang City in 2020. It was carried out through a cross-sectional approach at Padang City High School in March – October 2020. 145 students were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that there was a significant average difference between knowledge on the use of PKPR. For the use of PKPR to be increased and maximized, and educational promotion program is needed about the use of PKPR for adolescents by stakeholders and the government considering that knowledge and utilization of PKPR by adolescents is still low.

Abstract

Introduction: Referring to the results of the Indonesian Health Survey, it was reported that the largest group of smokers were adolescents aged 15-19 years (56.5%) in 2023. There was an increase in the percentage of novice smokers in Padang City in 2024 which reached 49%. So it is necessary to carry out appropriate handling. One of them is by conducting this study to determine the effect of cigarette access and pocket money on adolescent smoking behaviour in urban and rural areas. Method: This quantitative study involved a comparative cross-sectional design conducted in Padang City. Involving adolescents aged 16-19 years in rural and urban areas of Padang City conducted accross April-June 2024. A total of 106 adolescents enrolled as samples and data were collected through filling out questionnaires. Ethical approval was obtained from the research ethics committee team of the Faculty of Public Health, Andalas University, and approval was given by issuing a permit letter. Results: The primary outcome of the study suggest that ease of access to smoking has a strong influence in determining the difference of adolescent smoking behaviour in rural and urban areas Sig= 0.002 (p<0.005). Rural areas also produce more smokers than urban areas (67.9%) with a significant relationship to adolescent smoking behaviour (p= 0.002). Conclusion: In conclusion, our study contributes to the prevention of adolescent smoking behavior that parents and communities can implement and suggests policies that can restrict it within the scope of the social environment. Future studies should address differences in adolescent smoking behavior based on the involvement of health workers. And using the mixed method so that the data produced can be more representative which ultimately advances knowledge in the field of international health.

Abstract

Malaria merupakan penyakit menular di wilayah beriklim tropis. API Kabupaten Kepulauan Mentawai yang merupakan wilayah endemis malaria pada tahun 2022 sebesar 1,46 per 1000 penduduk. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara faktor lingkungan dengan kejadian Malaria di Kabupaten Kepulauan Mentawai tahun 2018-2022. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan studi ekologi. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh kejadian malaria yang tercatat di Dinas Kesehatan Kabupaten Kepulauan Mentawai dan data unsur iklim di BMKG Meteorologi Minangkabau dan BMKG Klimatologi Sicincin, data mobilitas di Dinas Perhubungan Kabupaten Kepulauan Mentawai serta data kemiskinan di Dinas Sosial Kabupaten Kepulauan Mentawai tahun 2018-2022. Metode analisis adalah analisis univariat dan bivariat menggunakan uji korelasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kejadian malaria mengalami peningkatan setiap bulan Juni hingga Agustus. Hasil analisis kejadian malaria dengan unsur iklim dan faktor lingkungan sosial yaitu temperatur (p=0,009; r=-0,332), curah hujan (p=0,001; r=0,513), kecepatan angin (p=0,283; r=0,141), kelembaban (p=0,566; r=0,076), mobilitas (p=0,127; r=0,199), kemiskinan (p=0,899; r=0,018) dan kepadatan penduduk (p=0,028; r=0,311). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adanya hubungan bermakna antara temperatur, curah hujan dan kepadatan penduduk terhadap kejadian penyakit Malaria. Disarankan untuk meningkatkan tindakan preventif yaitu membersihkan lingkungan dan memberantas breeding places serta edukasi kesehatan kepada masyarakat pada bulan Juni hingga Agustus.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) in children (aged 0-14 years) is a disease caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis. WHO estimates that in 2021 as many as 10.6 million people will be infected with TB worldwide. Six million of them are men, 3.4 million women and 1.2 million children. This community service was carried out at the Koto Baru Nan XX Village Head Office with 20 health cadres on duty at the posyandu. Community service activities consist of education about childhood TB. Apart from that, a pre-test and post-test were also carried out to determine the level of knowledge of community service participants before and after the training. The data was then analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. It is known that there is a significant difference between the level of knowledge before and after counseling regarding pediatric TB among health cadres in Koto Baru Nan XX Lubuk Begalung Village, Padang City. It is hoped that with this activity, health cadres can convey this knowledge to the community, including those present at the posyandu which is held once a month.

Abstract

Berbagai permasalahan yang berkaitan dengan kesehatan reproduksi remaja menjadi perhatian khusus terutama tiga risiko yang terjadi yaitu seksualitas, penyalahgunaan NAPZA, dan HIV/AIDS. Hal ini membutuhkan upaya yang berkelanjutan untuk memberikan pendidikan yang relevan dan pengetahuan yang komprehensif. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah promosi kesehatan melalui pendidikan teman sebaya (Peer Educator) dengan konsep Juventum Health Advocates (JHA) atau "Advokat Kesehatan Remaja" dimana sekelompok remaja bertugas untuk mempromosikan, mendukung, dan memperjuangkan kesehatan remaja, terutama terkait dengan isu-isu seperti seks pranikah, NAPZA, dan HIV/AIDS. Kegiatan ini berupa pelatihan dengan memfasilitasi peserta dengan materi disertai modul pembelajaran. Remaja yang tergabung dalam JHA ini akan berperan sebagai volunteer yang terjun langsung untuk pro-aktif dengan lingkungan sekitar seperti berperan sebagai konselor dan membagikan ilmu seputar kesehatan reproduksi, seksual berisiko. Pendekatan Peer Education telah membawa perubahan positif dalam pengetahuan, yang nantinya akan berdampak pada perilaku, dan sikap remaja. Hal ini ditunjukkan dengan hasil pre test dan post test tentang pengetahuan remaja yang samakin meningkat setelah diberikan materi. Keseluruhan kegiatan memberikan memberikan hasil yang efektif dan berdampak positif baik pada pembangunan karakter remaja dan lingkungan sekolah.
