Abstract

The  life  of  Prophet  Muhammad  is  a  great  example  of  Muslims,  especially  his  actions. Yet, many Muslims do not fully comprehend the deeds of the Prophet Muhammad. They assume that every Prophet’s actions are an obligation or an option to follow. Though the careful studies on the  issue  have  elaborated  and  come  to  the  conclusion  that  not  every  that  Prophet  Muhammad’s action  have  to  follow.  The  Islamic  scholars  have  distributed  the  diversity  of  prophet  actions  and explained  the  content  of  the  law,  with  the  level  of  obligaion,  ibahah  (permition)  or  or  a  good example to follow from the actions of the Prophet Muhammad.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the construction of religious institutions in West Sumatra, especially Muhammadiyah and the Indonesian Islamic Da'wah Council (LDII) West Sumatra regarding the meaning of jihad, as well as to explain the attitude of these religious institutions towards acts of terror in the name of jihad. Qualitative methods were used in this study with data obtained through interviews, documentation, and literature studies, both from books, scientific articles, books, and news. Social construction theory of Peter L Berger to explain the construction of Muhammadiyah and LDII West Sumatra religious institutions about the meaning of jihad. The results showed that Muhammadiyah West Sumatra interpreted jihad in the form of Jihad Amaliyah. The concept of jihad was revealed in various forms of movement, namely Muhammadiyah as an Islamic Movement, Muhammadiyah as the Amar Ma'ruf Nahi Munkar Islamic Da'wah Movement, Muhammadiyah as the Tajdid Movement. The understanding of jihad is then internalized into various forms of programs ranging from da'wah, education, health, social services and humanity. The LDII defines jihad in the sense of struggle. This understanding of jihad can be seen in the internalization of the five West Sumatra LDII cluster programs. Both institutions both reject the meaning of jihad in the sense of war in the Indonesian context. The jihad that is carried out is moderate.

Abstract

Interpretation of the Qur'an is one of the important fields of study in the science of interpretation, with various methods and patterns developed by the mufassir according to the context of their time. Sayyid Qutb, a prominent Muslim thinker, made a significant contribution through his work Fi Zilal al-Qur'an. This study focuses on the methods and patterns of interpretation used by Sayyid Qutb in his interpretation, by examining its characteristics, approaches, and implications for the understanding of the Qur'an in the modern era. This study aims to answer three main questions: (1) What is the interpretation method used by Sayyid Qutb in Fi Zilal al-Qur'an? (2) What are the patterns of interpretation that dominate the work? (3) How to apply it in the aspects of Aqidah, muamalah worship and morals. To answer this question, the research was carried out with a qualitative-descriptive approach, using the content analysis method of Sayyid Qutb's main work, and supported by the literature. . The results of the study show that this interpretation uses the Iqtirani tafsir method, which combines the tafsir bi al-ma'tsur method and tafsir bi al ra'yi, by using the tafsir tahlili method and the pattern (laun) of the interpretation is Al-adab wal ijtima'i, which is an interpretation that prioritizes literature and social society, the haraki pattern (movement) and also the Sufi style (isyari). Based on the explanation of the form of interpretation in the Tafsir Fî Zhilâlil Qur'an, it appears that in terms of Aqidah, Sayyid Qutb has a tendency to think of tasawwuf, while in interpreting verses related to worship and mu'amalah, such as zakat, and the prohibition of usury, Sayyid Qutb uses a social approach, by looking at social phenomena that occur in society, and finally, in understanding the verses about morality,  like understanding the meaning of uswatun hasanah, Sayyid Qutb tries to understand the meaning of the verse based on the context of the nuzul of the verse.

Abstract

Abstrak Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan manajemen dan kurikulum di Rumah Tahfizh Nagari Pasilihan, Sumatera Barat, melalui pelatihan dan pendampingan yang difokuskan pada pengembangan kapasitas pengelola dan guru. Metode pengabdian yang digunakan adalah Participatory Action Research (PAR), yang melibatkan partisipasi aktif pemangku kepentingan, termasuk pengelola, guru, santri, dan orang tua. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipatif, dan diskusi kelompok terfokus. Pelatihan dilaksanakan pada 29 September 2023, dengan fokus pada peningkatan manajemen administrasi, pengelolaan keuangan, serta penyusunan kurikulum yang relevan dan terstruktur. Hasil pengabdian menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan ini berhasil meningkatkan efisiensi manajemen Rumah Tahfizh serta memperkenalkan kurikulum baru yang lebih sesuai dengan kebutuhan santri, yang mencakup hafalan Al-Qur'an, pemahaman isi, dan integrasi teknologi dalam pembelajaran. Metode pengajaran yang lebih interaktif, seperti Active Learning dan Cooperative Learning, terbukti meningkatkan motivasi dan keterlibatan santri. Kesimpulan dari pengabdian ini adalah bahwa reformasi manajemen dan kurikulum melalui pendekatan partisipatif dapat memberikan dampak positif terhadap kualitas pendidikan di Rumah Tahfizh, dan model ini dapat diterapkan di lembaga serupa untuk meningkatkan efisiensi operasional dan kualitas pembelajaran. Kata kunci: pengembangan manajemen; kurikulum rumah tahfizh; pelatihan; partisipatory action research; active learning Abstract This community service aims to improve the management and curriculum of Rumah Tahfizh in Nagari Pasilihan, West Sumatra, through training and mentoring focused on capacity building for administrators and teachers. The method used in this service is Participatory Action Research (PAR), involving active participation from stakeholders, including administrators, teachers, students, and parents. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and focus group discussions. The training was held on September 29, 2023, focusing on enhancing administrative management, financial management, and designing a more structured and relevant curriculum. The results show that the training successfully improved the efficiency of Rumah Tahfizh's management and introduced a new curriculum tailored to the needs of students, including Quran memorization, comprehension, and the integration of technology in learning. Interactive teaching methods such as Active Learning and Cooperative Learning were proven to increase student motivation and engagement. In conclusion, this reform of management and curriculum through a participatory approach has a positive impact on the quality of education at Rumah Tahfizh, and this model can be implemented in similar institutions to improve operational efficiency and learning quality. Keywords: management development; tahfizh curriculum; training; participatory action research; active learning.

Abstract

The background of this study focuses on the impact of natural disasters that frequently strike Indonesia, particularly flash floods (galodo), which are triggered by natural factors and human actions that contribute to environmental degradation. The community of Jorong Dusun Tuo, as one of the affected areas, views the disaster as a fate from Allah as well as the result of human actions. This study aims to explore the understanding of the community in Jorong Dusun Tuo regarding the galodo natural disaster (landslide) and how this understanding is linked to the teachings of Islam found in Surah Al-Hadid verse 22 and Surah Ar-Rum verse 41. The main focus of this study is to: (1) analyze the interpretation of Surah Al-Hadid verse 22 and Surah Ar-Rum verse 41 in the context of disaster, (2) understand the reception of the Jorong Dusun Tuo community towards the causes and impacts of the galodo disaster, and (3) explore the relevance of Qur'anic teachings in the community's understanding of the disaster. This research is a field study with a qualitative approach and descriptive method. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, and documentation. Primary data sources consist of victims of the galodo disaster, religious leaders, community figures, and members of the community involved in post-disaster recovery efforts. The results of the study show that the community of Jorong Dusun Tuo views the galodo disaster as a trial and a warning from God. (1) They understand that this disaster is part of the predestination decreed by Allah, as stated in Surah Al-Hadid verse 22. (2) They also associate the resulting damage with natural factors and human sins, such as environmental destruction, committing zina, abandoning worship, and distancing from God, which aligns with the message in Surah Ar-Rum verse 41. (3) This understanding carries significant meaning as a reflection on oneself, patience, and the enhancement of piety when facing life's trials, as well as a reminder to protect the environment.

Abstract

This community engagement initiative aims to enhance the Qur’anic literacy of santri (Islamic boarding school students) through an integrated training program encompassing tahsin (proper recitation), taḥfīẓ (memorization), and translation of the Qur’an. The program was implemented by the Department of Qur’anic and Tafsir Studies, Faculty of Ushuluddin, Adab, and Da’wah, at the Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar, in collaboration with the Pondok Pesantren Tarbiyah Islamiyah (PPTI) Nurul Yaqin Batipuah Ateh in June 2024. The method employed was a participatory approach based on collaboration between the implementation team and all components of the pesantren, involving initial observation, training sessions, halaqah (study circles), mentoring, and periodic evaluations. The results indicate a significant improvement in the students' ability to recite the Qur’an properly (tahsin), their memorization achievements through the ziyādah and murāja‘ah methods (taḥfīẓ), as well as their comprehension of verse meanings using the Tafsir Jalalain approach (translation). Moreover, the program positively influenced the students’ attitudes and character, particularly in terms of discipline, motivation to learn, and religious commitment. The pesantren demonstrated a strong commitment to sustaining the program by developing internal systems such as an integrated curriculum, training for supporting teachers, and routine evaluations. In conclusion, this initiative not only successfully addressed the partner pesantren’s needs in strengthening Qur’anic literacy, but also presented a holistic and contextual Qur’anic education model that holds the potential for replication in other Islamic boarding schools. This program represents a tangible contribution to the sustainable development of Qur’anic education within the pesantren system.

Abstract

Abstract This research aims to describe how the interpretation of the Religious Institution of the Islamic Tarbiyah Union (PERTI) in West Sumatra about jihad, as well as to explain the institution's stance on terrorist actions carried out under the guise of jihad. A qualitative method is employed in this study, with data gathered through interviews, documentation, and literature reviews, including books, scholarly articles, religious texts, and news reports. The research is guided by Peter L. Berger's social construction theory to elucidate the construction of the religious institution PERTI in West Sumatra regarding the meaning of jihad. The findings indicate that PERTI in West Sumatra interprets jihad in verses and hadiths as a form of striving in the field of educating the community (tafaqquh fid din). This understanding of jihad is then internalized into various educational programs, ranging from elementary levels such as kindergarten and primary school to secondary school, high school, and even higher education institutions. Moreover, PERTI explicitly rejects the interpretation of jihad as warfare within the Indonesian context. The jihad undertaken by PERTI is characterized as moderate. This research contributes to enhancing the understanding of stakeholders and the general public about the diverse and moderate interpretations of jihad. It also demonstrates that religious institutions in Indonesia have their own interpretations of jihad, such as PERTI Sumatera Barat. Keywords: Meaning of Jihad, PERTI West Sumatra, Tafaqquh fid din Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bagaimana interpretasi lembaga Keagamaan Persatuan Tarbiyah Islamiyah (PERTI) Sumatera Barat tentang jihad, serta menjelaskan sikap lembaga keagamaan tersebut terhadap aksi teror yang mengatasnamakan jihad. Metode kualitatif digunakan dalam penelitian ini dengan data diperoleh melalui wawancara, dokumentasi, dan studi pustaka baik itu dari buku, artikel ilmiah, kitab, dan pemberitaan. Dengan mempedomani teori konstruksi sosial Peter L Berger untuk menjelaskan kontruksi lembaga keagamaan PERTI Sumbar tentang makna jihad. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, PERTI Sumatera Barat memaknai jihad dalam ayat dan hadis dalam bentuk perjuangan dalam bidang Pendidikan umat (tafaqquh fid din). Pemahaman tentang jihad tersebut kemudian di internalisasikan ke berbagai bentuk program pendidikan yang mulai dari tingkat dasar baik TK, SD, menengah, atas bahkan perguruan tinggi. Kemudian PERTI dengan nyata menolak makna jihad dalam artian perang untuk konteks Indonesia. Jihad yang dilakukan PERTI bersifat moderat. Penelitian ini berkontribusi dalam menambah pemahaman pemangku kepentingan dan masyarakat umum dalam memahami jihad yang begitu beragam dan juga bersifat moderat. Ini juga menunjukkan bahwa lembaga keagamaan di Indonesia memiliki pemaknaan jihad sendiri seperti PERTI Sumatera Barat. Kata kunci: Makna Jihad, PERTI Sumbar, Tafaqquh fid din

Abstract

This study aims to clarify and examine the pattern of the hadith narrations regarding marriage that are cited, authenticated, and validated in the legal reasoning of religious court judges' rulings. This study is a library study that takes the form of a written living hadith. By using the takhrij al-hadith approach, the hadith's veracity is confirmed, and its applicability is assessed using the perspectives and techniques of hadith experts. Inductive techniques are then used to process the outcomes. Two methods of citing hadith history were discovered via the research: using a template application and directly citing the hadith book. Only five of the 22 cases in the subfield of marriage, including marital dispensation, wali 'adhal, divorce, determining the parentage of the kid and determining the child's adoption, and Itsbat of marriage, include hadith citations. The five examples pertain to seven hadith histories that fit the criteria for Prophet Saw's hadiths. Four are fully cited with sanad and rawi, two are only stated with sanads that differ from rawi, and one is quoted without sanad and rawi (divorce case). Although it does not have legal implications that lead to the annulment of the judge's decision, the condition of the absence of quoting hadith as one of the legal considerations in copies of the decisions of cases shows the lack of authority of decisions that characterize Religious Courts.
