Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

A child’s hospitalization often causes stress for parents due to the emotional burden, uncertainty, and role changes during the treatment process. Coping strategies play a crucial role in determining how parents manage this stress. This study aims to describe the coping strategies of parents whose children are hospitalized. This study employs a descriptive quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 10 parents selected using purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria, namely parents of children aged 1–12 years who were undergoing inpatient care for at least 48 hours and were willing to participate as respondents and complete the questionnaire. Data were collected using the Brief COPE questionnaire, which consists of 14 items and a 4-point Likert scale. Data analysis was conducted using univariate methods to present frequency distributions, percentages, and mean values. The results indicated that most parents employed adaptive coping strategies such as religious coping, active coping, planning, emotional support, and seeking information. Meanwhile, maladaptive coping strategies such as self-blame and denial were found at low levels. These findings suggest that parents still require psychosocial support while their children are hospitalized. This study can serve as a basis for healthcare professionals in developing family-centered care interventions in pediatric wards.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the respiratory response in children with pneumonia receiving oxygen therapy. The research method used was a case study of two children, aged 9 and 11 years with pneumonia who received oxygen therapy. Changes in oxygen saturation (SpO₂) and respiratory rate (RR) were observed gradually before therapy, and 1 hour, 2 hours, and 4 hours after administration. The results showed that oxygen therapy improved the respiratory condition of both patients. In patients using nasal cannula (3 L/minute), SpO₂ increased from 93% to 97% within 1 hour and reached 98% at 4 hours, accompanied by a gradual decrease in RR. In patients using NRM (6 L/minute), SpO₂ increased from 89% to 96% within 1 hour and reached 97% at 4 hours, with a more rapid decrease in RR in the initial hours of therapy. In conclusion, there was respiratory improvement after oxygen therapy, with a more rapid response appearing in the early phase of NRM use.   Keywords: Nasal Cannula, Non-Rebreathing Mask, Pneumonia, Respiratory Response, Oxygen Therapy

Abstract

This study aims to describe the physiological adaptation of low birth weight infants during the first 72 hours of life based on changes in body weight, body temperature, respiratory rate, heart rate, and blood glucose levels. This study used a descriptive approach with a case study design. The results showed that low birth weight infants experienced a gradual physiological adaptation process during the first 72 hours of life. Body temperature increased toward the normal range, respiratory rate and heart rate decreased within physiological limits, indicating stability, while blood glucose levels gradually increased. Initial weight loss remained within normal physiological limits and was followed by a tendency to stabilize on the third day. Low birth weight infants demonstrated increasingly stable physiological adaptation during the first 72 hours of life with adequate neonatal care support. Comprehensive monitoring of physiological parameters is crucial for early detection of complications and optimization of the neonatal adaptation process. The conclusions of this study indicate that low birth weight infants are capable of achieving gradual physiological adaptation during the early neonatal period. Therefore, continuous physiological monitoring and adequate neonatal care are necessary to maintain the stability of the infant's condition and prevent further complications. Abstract

Dengue fever (DHF) is a major public health problem in the tropics, including Indonesia, impacting the health of children. The disease can cause serious complications if not treated promptly. Effective prevention requires good knowledge of healthy behaviours, especially in environmental management to prevent the proliferation of Aedes aegypti as the main vector of the virus. However, many children still do not understand the importance of dengue prevention. Therefore, improving their knowledge is very important in an effort to overcome this problem. This study aims to analyse the effectiveness of interactive learning methods, particularly role-playing, in improving children's knowledge about dengue prevention. The research design used is Quasi-Experiment with pre-test and post-test, involving 27 students of SD Negeri 002 South Balikpapan in 2024. The instrument used was a questionnaire which was prepared based on the indicators of DHF prevention. The results showed a significant effect of interactive learning method on improving children's knowledge about dengue prevention, with a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05). This study provides important implications in health education, especially in efforts to improve children's knowledge through interactive and fun learning methods.
