Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of sociolinguistics-based language literacy mentoring activities in improving students' communication skills at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Unismuh Makassar. The program was conducted in response to communication challenges among students, particularly in the use of polite language, communication confidence, and the ability to adapt language according to social contexts in the school environment. The approach used in this study was descriptive qualitative. The subjects were students who participated in the language literacy mentoring activities. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, documentation, and assessment of student communication practices. The results of the study indicate that sociolinguistics-based language literacy mentoring activities made a positive contribution to improving students' communication skills. Students experienced improvements in the use of polite language, speaking courage, ability to express opinions, and participation in group discussions. In addition, students were also better able to adjust their language use according to formal and informal situations in the school environment. The application of methods such as group discussions, communication simulations, role plays, and language games proved effective in creating interactive and contextual learning. The findings also show that the sociolinguistic approach helped students understand the social functions of language and strengthened their awareness of appropriate communication practices in different interaction settings. These activities also contributed to the formation of students' social character through the habit of polite and effective communication. Overall, sociolinguistics-based language literacy mentoring was able to improve communication skills while shaping students' language ethics in everyday life. Furthermore, the program contributed to fostering positive communication culture, social interaction skills, and character development among students. Therefore, this approach is recommended as a sustainable learning strategy to improve the quality of student communication in schools and can serve as an alternative model for strengthening literacy, communication competence, and character education in educational institutions.

Abstract

Sulawesi Selatan merupakan salah satu provinsi dengan tingkat kerawanan bencana tinggi, meliputi banjir, tanah longsor, gempa bumi, angin puting beliung, dan kebakaran permukiman. Kondisi ini berdampak pada keberlangsungan lembaga pendidikan, termasuk pesantren. Deskripsi  pelaksanaan program edukasi mitigasi bencana di Pondok Pesantren Puteri Ummul Mukminin ‘Aisyiyah Makassar  sebagai upaya peningkatan kesiapsiagaan warga pesantren terhadap risiko bencana. Kegiatan yang dilaksanakan pada 27 September 2025 ini meliputi empat tahapan: ceramah interaktif, simulasi evakuasi, diskusi partisipatif, dan penguatan nilai-nilai Islam. Hasilnya menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan sikap santri terhadap kesiapsiagaan bencana. Kerjasama antara Dosen Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM) dan Pimpinan Wilayah Aisyiyah  Sulawesi Selatan, Lembaga Lingkungan Hidup dan Penanggulangan Bencana (PWA Sulsel, LLHPB), Dinas Kebakaran Kota Makassar, serta partisipasi aktif warga pesantren menjadi faktor pendukung utama, sementara keterbatasan sarana dan kebutuhan pelatihan berkelanjutan menjadi tantangan. Secara keseluruhan, program ini efektif dalam menumbuhkan budaya siaga bencana dan berpotensi direplikasi di lembaga pendidikan lain di wilayah rawan bencana. Kata Kunci: Mitigasi Bencana, Pesantren, Kesiapsiagaan, Edukasi, LLHPB, PWA, Lingkungan.

Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in multicultural cultural literacy learning within school environments presents both challenges and opportunities in modern education. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of AI implementation in enhancing students' understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity. The method used is quantitative research with an experimental design conducted in several secondary schools. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and questionnaires. Data analysis was performed using inferential statistical tests, such as t-tests and ANOVA, to examine significant differences between experimental and control groups, as well as descriptive analysis to present patterns in student responses. The results indicate that the use of AI in multicultural cultural literacy learning provides a more interactive, adaptive, and student-centered learning experience. However, challenges remain in implementation, including limited infrastructure and educator readiness. Therefore, synergy among schools, government, and technology developers is essential to optimize the utilization of AI in multicultural education. Abstrak Integrasi kecerdasan buatan (AI) dalam pembelajaran literasi budaya multikultural di lingkungan sekolah menjadi tantangan sekaligus peluang dalam pendidikan modern. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis efektivitas penerapan AI dalam meningkatkan pemahaman dan apresiasi siswa terhadap keberagaman budaya. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain eksperimen di beberapa sekolah menengah. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara, dan kuesioner. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan uji statistik inferensial, seperti uji-t dan ANOVA, untuk menguji perbedaan signifikan antara kelompok eksperimen dan kontrol, serta analisis deskriptif untuk memaparkan pola respons siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan AI dalam pembelajaran literasi budaya multikultural memberikan pengalaman belajar yang lebih interaktif, adaptif, dan sesuai dengan kebutuhan siswa. Namun, terdapat tantangan dalam implementasi, seperti keterbatasan infrastruktur dan kesiapan tenaga pendidik. Oleh karena itu, sinergi antara sekolah, pemerintah, dan pengembang teknologi sangat diperlukan untuk mengoptimalkan pemanfaatan AI dalam pendidikan multikultural.
