Abstract

Games have been proven to be a classic yet effective technique in teaching English vocabulary. In the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) Classroom, games can be employed to introduce both common and specific words enjoyably. This study aims to increase the vocabulary mastery of ESP students by using Pictionary Game in the Fashion study program at SMK Negeri 2 Pangkep. The research method applied in this research is qualitative: Classroom Action Research (CAR). Conducted in SMK Negeri 2 Pangkep in the academic year 2021/2022, this research involved 26 second-grade Fashion students as the sample. The treatment consisted of two cycles with three meetings each cycle. To collect the data, tests were used. The results showed that the implementation of the Pictionary game technique improved students' vocabulary achievement. It can be seen from the results of students’ scores which improved in the post-tests. This implies that the Pictionary game technique helps students to learn vocabulary more easily.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penggunaan media pembelajaran yang baik menjadi salah satu pilar yang mendukung keberhasilan pembelajaran. Prezi merupakan salah satu media yang menonjolkan fitur-fitur presentasi yang berbeda dari aplikasi lainnya dengan tujuan membuat pembelajaran menjadi lebih menarik. Kegiatan pengabdian ini difokuskan untuk memberikan pengetahuan dan keterampilan guru-guru dalam mengembangkan media pembelajaran berbasis Prezi. Metode pengabdian yang digunakan adalah pelatihan dan pendampingan yang diberikan kepada 16 guru di MTs Muhammadiyah Mandalle secara luring. Tingkat keberhasilan pelatihan dilihat dari kemampuan peserta untuk menghasilkan produk berupa media presentasi interaktif menggunakan aplikasi Prezi, serta persepsi peserta terhadap pelatihan yang diperoleh melalui angket yang dibagikan di akhir pelatihan. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa 15 dari 16 peserta atau 93.75% guru telah mampu mengembangkan media pembelajaran interaktif dengan memanfaatkan fitur-fitur yang ditawarkan dalam aplikasi Prezi. Selain itu, peserta pelatihan memberikan persepsi yang sangat baik terhadap jalannya pelatihan ini. Pelatihan semacam ini diharapkan lebih banyak dilaksanakan agar guru dapat terus meningkatkan kompetensi mengajarnya dengan mengintegrasikan teknologi ke dalam pembelajaran di kelas.Abstract: The use of good learning media is one of the pillars that supports successful learning. Prezi is a media that highlights presentation features that are different from other applications with the aim of making learning more interesting. This community service activity focuses on providing teachers with knowledge and skills in developing Prezi-based learning media according. The method used is workshop and mentoring given to 16 teachers at MTs Muhammadiyah Mandalle offline. The success of the training can be seen from the ability of the participants to produce an interactive presentation product using the Prezi application, as well as the participants' perceptions of the training which is obtained through a questionnaire distributed to the participants at the end of the training. The results show that 15 out of 16 trainees or 93.75% of the teachers have been able to develop interactive learning media by utilizing the features offered in the Prezi application. In addition, the training participants gave a very good perception of the course of this training. It is hoped that more training of this kind will be carried out in the future so that teachers can continue to improve their teaching competence by integrating technology into classroom learning.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the pedagogical ability of teachers in teaching English in grade II OF SMK NEGERI 4 GOWA. The subject of this study used the qualitative descriptive method. This study focused on the eleventh grade level of SMK Negeri 4 Gowa and the main subjects of this study were two English teachers of SMA NEGERI 4 GOWA. The data in this study were taken from observations and interviews. The form of checklist observation data aims to analyze the pedagogical ability of teachers in teaching English. The data from the interview is to find out the competence of the teacher in teaching.Based on the research findings, it shows that the two teachers at SMK NEGERI 4 GOWA still do not meet all the indicators contained in the seven aspects of teacher pedagogical competence.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate students’ perception on the use of preaching method and Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) media in teaching English at seventh semester students English Department Muhammadiyah University of Makassar. This study applied a descriptive qualitative study. The data gained through open-ended interview and process with question interview that was present in paper, data reduction, and coding technique. The data was gained from seventh semester students at English Department Muhammadiyah University of Makassar. Based on the findings, it finds that students gave the positive perception toward the use of preaching method and Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) Media in teaching English to measure the effectiveness of the method and the media to support their English skills or knowledge. Moreover, the students claimed that they have many advantages during the implementation of preaching method and CALL media. This study also found that this strategy was needed to be improved by the lecturers in terms of giving instruction, observing the class and evaluating the implementation of preaching method and CALL media in English class

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the effect of E-book Reader application on students’ reading comprehension at the second grade of SMAN 16 Gowa. The researcher applied descriptive qualitative research design. The subject of this research was 25 students. The result of this research showed that there were five positive effects by used E-book Reader application were E-book Reader application makes the students read more effectively, E-book Reader application makes easier for students to identify reading structures and main idea, E-book Reader application make students easier to read by using the features available, E-book Reader application makes students enthusiastic in reading and the last by using E-book Reader application the students save time and place. Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using English songs using the Joox application in learning pronunciation at SMAN 7 Makassar. The research method used in this study was pre-experimental with the data analysis process using a quantitative design. The population of this study were all students of class XI MIPA. And the sample in this study were students of class XI MIPA 3, totaling 36 students. The instrument used is a test of speaking skills in pronunciation terms through a pre-test and post-test. This research was conducted for 6 meetings. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the use of the Joox application was effective in improving students' pronunciation at SMAN 7 Makassar. The results of the pre-test pronunciation were 39.44 and the results of the post-test pronunciation were 62.08. The results showed an increase in pronunciation of 57.40%. In addition, the value of the t-test is higher than the value of the pronunciation t-table (14.963 > 1.690) which means that H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. So it can be concluded from the results of this study that the use of songs through the Joox application in improving students' pronunciation at SMAN 7 Makassar.

Abstract

The importance of speaking skills in learning English has prompted this research to explore the strategies applied by non-English students. In this context, this research aims to explore the strategies used by non-English students to improve their speaking skills in English. Using a qualitative approach, this research involved in-depth interviews as a data collection method. The instrument used in this research was an interview guide. The interview guide was prepared based on the research objective, namely to find out what strategies non-English students use to improve their speaking skills. A total of 10 non-English-majoring students from various departments were selected at university Muhammadiyah of Makassar as research subjects. From the results of the interviews conducted, there were two strategies used by students to improve their speaking skills, namely: internal strategies and external strategies. Internal strategies include: self-speaking practice, committing to memorizing vocabulary every day, shadowing technique, read news articles in English, language switching strategies and determining speaking time. Meanwhile, the external strategy includes: getting used to communicating with family and friends using English (a natural communication strategy); taking an English course, forming a friendship circle. Knowing the students’ strategies in enhancing their speaking skills, teachers can integrate them into their learning in the speaking classroom.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out whether the use of picture series media effective in increasing students’ vocabulary mastery. The research applied a pre-experimental method with one group pretest posttest design and the data were collected by giving pre-test, treatment and post-test. The sample of the research was VIII 8 at MTs Ma’arif Puro’ro which consisted of 15 students in the academic year 2021/2022, the population of this study was 30 students consist of two classes in the first grade at MTs Ma’arif Puro’ro. The research sample was chosen using a purposive sampling technique. The vocabulary test words were employed to gather information.The researcher findings show that the mean score of the students’ in vocabulary is proved by post-test was 70.66% is higher than the mean score of the students’ in pre-test 40.00% and the value of the t-test is greater that t-table (t-test>t-table). Vocabulary was greater than t-table (13.440>1.753), It means that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. In other words, using picture series was effective in improving students’ vocabulary mastery in terms of verb and noun.
