Abstract

AbstractCoffee has been cultivated as the secondary produce for decades in Girimarto, Wonogiri, however, the selective picking practice remain alient for local farmers. Selective picking is considered impractical due to time consumption and laborous work that farmers should carry out. The community service project designs and implements image recognition technology to help acquire           coffee-cheery ripeness condition. Adopting a geolocation, the appropriate routing strategies, would enable farmers to selectively pick the red cherries in a systematic sequence. The image processing technology was applied by adopting Raspberry Pi microcomputer, Raspberry Pi Camera Board, version 2, and OpenCV programming language. The transition to selective picking and the subsequent post-harvest technology would likely produce high-quality green bean coffee. It is expected that the income of smallholder coffee farmers will gradually be increasing.ABSTRAKPraktek petik buah merah dalam budidaya kopi belum menjadi prosedur baku pada perkebunan kopi rakyat di wilayah Girimarto, Wonogiri.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning at a natural school in Klaten through engineering design. STEM is directed as integrated learning between several fields of science, especially those related to mathematics, science (physics, chemistry, biology, and environmental science), and IT (Information Technology). Learning is done by introducing several technologies that use wind energy sources. Engineering design process activities are carried out in 3 modules, namely, understanding the context of the problem, experimenting with materials and sail shapes capable of capturing wind energy, and designing windmills according to the results of previous experiments. The learning module is made by a service team with the teacher and then given to parents. Parents are expected to assist children during the implementation of activities. Students are encouraged to use STEM skills in designing windmills.

Abstract

School extracurricular activities potentially facilitate the development of students' talents and interests. This community service activity introduces the integration of Lego Mindstorm EV3 Robotics into extracurricular programming activities at PPQ IT Al Mahir, Karanganyar. It is expected to benefit students' Computational Thinking skills and interest in STEM careers of the PPQ-IT Al Mahir Islamic Boarding School students Karanganyar. This community service aimed to develop the character of the Pancasila Student profile according to the purpose of the Merdeka Curriculum. The activity was carried out in the period from July to October 2022. The three stages of community service were 1) preparation, 2) robotics workshop, and 3) deployment. The report concludes that the robotics module ran well for the high-school student level and contributed to the participants' robotics and programming interest. The extracurricular framework would be the potential for deployment in the other school setting.

Abstract

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for teachers includes self-development activities, scientific publications, and innovative works. Scientific publications are often an obstacle to a teacher's career. Therefore, the skill of writing a scientific paper is a competency that must be possessed by teachers. This community service aims to provide assistance and improve scientific writing skills for Vocational High School (SMK) teachers. The method used consists of a classical approach of holding workshops and individual post-workshop assistance until submitting participant articles to scientific journals. Based on the results of the program, it was found that: (1) the teachers showed high enthusiasm in participating in the program; (2) there is one participant who successfully published his article in the Indonesian Sinta indexed journals; (3) participants who are still in the process and who have already had draft articles still need individual assistance until they can publish into scientific journals. The mentoring program is still needed on an ongoing basis so that writing culture is formed as a part of the CPD program.

Abstract

This community service program aims to create awareness of the plastic pollution challenge by empowering the local communities around Sekolah Alam Solo Raya (SELASAR). The program is part of a problem-based learning approach implemented to support community-based education in SELASAR. SELASAR’s students are expected to educate the communities in sorting the general waste and separating out items that can be recycled. The educational kit of a simple recycling machine will be developed in UNS and then installed in Sekolah Alam Solo Raya for educational purposes. The communities will take an educational tour through plastic recycling, from sorting to final production. The objective of the educational tour is to raise awareness of waste reduction and provide practical tips on how to create a more sustainable environment. It is also expected that students could create well-designed products that have more commercial value.
