Abstract

Background: Indonesia’s Health Law No. 36 year 2009 Section 128 states that every baby has the right to exclusively breastfed from birth for six months. The law also stipulates that during breastfeeding, the family, the government, local governments, and public should support mothers with the provision of time and special facilities. Objective: This study aims to analyze factors related to exclusive breastfeeding program, especially indicators that can explain advocacy to stakeholders, support for resources and the role of community leader toward mother’s attitude on exclusive breastfeeding program. Methods: It was a quantitative study employed a cross-sectional approach and involved 185 mothers in Sleman district who have children aged 6-12 months. Results: Written support in the form of decree significantly contributed to the formation of advocacy factors conducted by exclusive breastfeeding program manager to the village stakeholders, whilst the provision of infrastructure and village fund did not support in creating factor of advocacy. The support from resources and the role of community leader can contribute the provision of infrastructure around 54% whilst mothers’ attitudes toward exclusive breastfeeding devoted a great share to mother’s practice. Conclusion: Advocacy for exclusive breastfeeding to the village stakeholders is expected to contribute in the form of written support (decree), providing the fund from the village budget, and providing the infrastructure. The support from resources and the role of community leaders influence advocacy and attitude of mothers on exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Background: Although the Indonesian government has campaigned exclusive breastfeeding during the past decade through maternal and child program of Ministry of Health, however, its coverage in Yogyakarta province remains low. Objective: This study aims to analyze factors related to exclusive breastfeeding program, especially indicators that can explain government’s regulation and mothers’ perception to exclusive breastfeeding practice. Methods: It was a cross-sectional study involved 185 mothers who have 6-12 months infants with parity 1-3. The correspondents live in Sleman district and had normal delivery in hospital, health center or midwifery private practitioner. The association between the exogenous (government policy and mothers’ perception) and the endogenous variables (mothers’ participation to exclusive breastfeeding practice) was determined using Lisrel version 8.80. Results: Although the government policy contributed to the success of implementing breastfeeding program (33%), providing breastfeeding rooms (28%), and declaring the related government regulation (17%); however, its contribution was recorded at only 2% to human resources. Knowledge significantly encouraged mothers to breastfeed whilst infrastructure was assessed as a strong determinant of mothers’ willingness to participate in the program at the contribution of 50%. Conclusion: Although there was only a weak association between government regulation to mothers’ perception and between mothers’ perception towards exclusive breastfeeding practice, the study highlights the importance of providing adequate information to improve mothers’ knowledge on exclusive breastfeeding. By knowledge improvement, mothers will have better perception, which in turn will improve their self-efficacy and practices in exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

The learning characteristic in the 21st century is the availability of information anywhere and anytime. Blended learning (BL) became the most widely used learning strategy in vocational education. However, the problem is the effectiveness of BL on student outcomes. This scoping review provides an overview of the implementation of the BL model on vocational students. The research questions in this review were: i) What type of BL was taken?; ii) How did the BL model works?; and iii) What was improved in student learning outcomes? The research method adopted the scoping review from Arksey & Markey. From the beginning, the research article data was taken from the Scopus database. The article selection using the PRISMA method obtained 32 articles from 4,298 articles. The results of the review showed that there were three types of BL models. The three types of BL were: i) The flipped classroom model; ii) The station-rotation model; and iii) The self-blend model. BL syntax that teachers most favored in nine ways, but mainly with the syntax: “Face-to-face (F2F) finished, after that online learning for enrichment”. Meanwhile, most of the articles improved learning outcomes in the cognitive domain.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) transmission prevention centering on family is an effective strategy to suppress the emergence of new clusters of pulmonary TB transmission. The commitment of family heads and several factors are related to this action. This study was conducted to identify, examine, and analyze the determinants of family commitment in preventing the transmission of pulmonary TB. This study applied a quantitative cross-sectional approach to 170 family heads of pulmonary TB patients using proportionate simple random sampling. The family health promotion model (FHPM) was used to analyze family commitment determinants in preventing TB transmission. Data were collected using a questionnaire. SEM analysis was utilized to determine the paths and the relationship between family function, perception of the disease transmission risk, as well as family support, and commitment to action to prevent TB transmission. This study recorded that 50.6% of respondents were male with an average age of 46.75 ± 46 and an age range of 36-55 years, 53% had a high school education; 25.9% were self-employed; had an average decent living need of 1.93 ± 0.85, 75.3% had nuclear family, and 47.1% were from patriarchal family. Model fit was achieved in the structural equation (Chi-square (χ2) = 173.44; df = 71, RMSEA = 0.072≤ 0.08; GFI = 0.90≥ 0.90; RMR = 0.019≤ 0.05; NFI = 0.98≥ 0.90; CFI = 0.99≥ 0.90; TLI = 0.98≥ 0.95; IFI = 0.99≥ 0.90; PGFI = 0.59; PNFI = 0,76). All dimensions and item scales are significantly related to their respective latent constructs. All factors forming the FHPM framework have a significant positive direct effect between latent variables. Factors from the FHPM framework significantly (family function t = 8.74, perception t = 4.46, and family support t = 7.37) have an influence on commitment to action to prevent pulmonary TB transmission. Family function is the most powerful factor explaining commitment to preventive action. This study reveals the paths and influences of family function, perception, and support on a commitment to prevent pulmonary TB transmission through structural model analysis.

Abstract

One of the competencies in 21st-century learning is critical thinking (CT). Many lessons carried out by teachers do not touch this ability because of the lack of learning innovation and the use of IT-based learning resources. This study aimed to determine and analyze the effect of using the OER (Open Educational Resources)-assisted Blended learning model on vocational students' critical thinking skills. The type of research used mixed methods with embedded design. The samples were 54 students of the Multimedia program at VHS (Vocational High School) in Surakarta, Indonesia, and the instrument used a test based on critical thinking skills, according to Facione. Quantitative data analysis used an independent t-test and the qualitative data used criteria for achieving students' critical thinking skills. The results of the study support the expectation that the BL model assisted by OER has a significant effect on student learning outcomes and that students have excellent critical thinking skills on the indicators of interpretation, analysis, evaluation, explanation, and inference.  On the other hand, students are weak in self-regulation.
