Abstract

Leadership has been appeared since human to begin establishing a community in the world and it continuously grows further because of its usefulness. Particularly, the leadership is a pivotal aspect to increase the management process in any organization. However, it still needs to investigate deeply so that it can be understood comprehensively by practitioners and scholars. Consequently, the study is aimed to explore the history, theories, and basic concepts of leadership. Based on the literature review, it was revealed that leadership history can be traced based on its etymology and philosophy even though the topic of leadership had been known from the ancient age. Moreover, some leadership theories that influence its existence are genetic, great man, trait, behaviour, path-goal, contingency, transformational, and skill. Furthermore, leadership can be conceptualized as the leader’s personal ability to influence others (followers) through relationships, interactions, behaviours and credibility to attain the defined goals. Therefore, this study contributes to advance the leadership literature and emphasize its connection to the field of management. Further studies are recommended to investigate how leadership practices can improve the management process in the organization.

Abstract

Educational management is one of the most needed fields in education institutions and system. Consequently, it is necessary to explore deeply the field. This study is purposed to investigate the history of the educational management and establish its main concept. The result of study identified that the development of the educational management was begun in the United Stated in the middle of nineteenth century. Afterwards, the subject was acknowledged in the end of the nineteenth century in various countries. It developed further in the beginning of twentieth century in Indonesia after decentralization implemented in Indonesian education context. Another finding is the four main concepts of the educational management, namely: (1) as an applied science field of management contextualized towards the field of education; (2) associated with managing various educational resources; (3) has the fundamental principles consisting of the efficiency and effectiveness; and (4) focus on the achievement of certainly educational aims. Contributions of the study for theory and practices are discussed further. Keywords: Indonesia, educational leadership, educational management

Abstract

School leadership is a crucial topic in the improvement of education quality through the role of educational leaders in leading and managing schools effectively and efficiently. Accordingly, the quality of the school leadership is urgent to discuss further. In particular, school leadership skill is an urgent component of which must be carried by the leader if the school will be successful. The main purpose of this study is to explore the school principal skills. A narrative literature review was used to conduct this study in order to investigate and describe the school leadership skills. Based on the result of the review, it was identified the five school leadership skills that can be implemented in the practice of the Indonesian school context. Those skills consist of time management, strategic management, cognitive, interpersonal, and decision-making. All skills are fundamental aspects to build for the betterment of educational management, particularly in managing the school. Theoretically and practically contributions of this study were discussed. Therefore, various research and literature reviews are recommended to conduct for the establishment of the school leadership unity for the Indonesian school context.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi sebuah siklus baru dalam proses pembuatan kebijakan pendidikan yang mana dapat digunanakan untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan publik di bidang pendidikan. Metode penelitian kualitatif digunakan, melalui analisis konten, untuk membuat siklus kebijakan pendidikan yang dibutuhkan. Hasil studi ini mengidentifikasi enam tahapan di dalam siklus kebijakan pendidikan, yaitu penentuan agenda, fomulasi, legitimasi, sosialisasi, implementasi, dan evaluasi. Siklus kebijakan pendidikan ini dapat berkontribusi signifikan terhadap peningkatan pengetahuan para pembuat kebijakan, pemangku kepentingan, peneliti, dan pengimplementasi kebijakan tentang proses kebijakan pendidikan. Selain itu, siklus tersebut dapat digunakan sebagai panduan dan tuntunan untuk mengelola sektor pendidikan, terkhusus pembuatan berbagai kebijakan di level makro (pusat/kementerian), messo (provinsi/kabupaten/kota), dan lokal (institusi pendidikan). Selanjutnya, hal tersebut juga dapat membantu para praktisi pendidikan berpikir secara sistematis dan tepat dalam membuat dan mengimplementasikan kebijakan pendidikan. Penelitian selanjutnya sangat direkomendasikan menginvestigasi efektifitas dari siklus kebijakan pendidikan pada level mikro, meso, dan makro tersebut.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to develop a new scale, the International Postgraduate Students Academic Stress Scale (IPSASS), for measuring the sources of academic stress on international postgraduate students. A 79-item prototype was developed by reviewing literatures and conducting interviews. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was used to investigate the contribution of each item and the number of factor in the IPSASS. The result of study revealed that IPSASS has seven subscales including: (1) Learning Process, (2) Time Management, (3) Financial Problems, (4) Relationship’s Building, (5) Supervision, (6) Acquiring Resources, and (7) Academic Performance. The IPSASS is a reliable and valid instrument for measuring the source and level of academic stress on international postgraduate students. This study has contribution significantly to the literature and practice for providing a valuable understanding regarding psychological and academic issues faced by international postgraduate students.

Abstract

Since its establishment in 2018, Christian education management has begun to develop continuously in the educational context of Indonesia. However, it still requires studying more. Accordingly, this research aims to investigate how the department of Christian education management may be developed at the Christian higher education. The qualitative research, in particular, a case study was conducted to investigate the topic. Seven participants were involved and a manual book of Christian educational management department was used as the source of data. Based on the result of the study, it was found four themes that need to pay attention seriously in order to develop further the department of Christian educational management in Christian higher education, namely vision, mission, purpose, curriculum, collaboration, and alumnus. On the other side, for improving the knowledge on the management of Christian education organizations, contributions of this study for further research, practitioners and policy-makers are provided

Abstract

Christian educational management is a new field which was born in Indonesia, particularly, at the Institut Agama Kristen Negeri Tarutung. Its origins can be traced to the year 2018 after the oldest public Christian higher education institution established the field as a new department in the Faculty of Christian Education Science, IAKN Tarutung. The department is expected to contribute to the development and improvement of the quality of managing Christian educational institutions. Consequently, the purpose of this paper is to explore the sectors, opportunities, and development of Christian educational management in the Indonesian context. This study found three sectors of Christian education management starting from the lowest level to the highest, namely the micro, meso, and macro sectors. The field of Christian educational management can be further advanced because the Indonesian government had issued several regulations to enhance the quality of Christian education institutions through various policies. Besides, education stakeholders and researchers may give serious attention the study of Christian educational management so that each Christian education institution can carry out its functions effectively and efficiently.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Manajemen pendidikan Kristen merupakan sebuahbidang keilmuan baru yang dilahirkan di Indonesia, khususnya di Institut Agama Kristen Negeri Tarutung. Asal-usul bidang tersebut dapat ditemukan pada tahun 2018 setelah salah satu lembaga pendidikan Kristen negeri tertua itu mendirikan bidang tersebut sebagai sebuah program studi baru di Fakultas Ilmu Pendidikan Kristen, IAKN Tarutung. Program studi ini diharapkan dapat berkontribusi dalam pengembangan dan peningkatan kualitas pengelolaan lembaga pendidikan Kristen. Oleh karena itu, tujuan dari studi ini adalah untuk mengeksplorasi berbagai sektor, peluang, dan pengembangan pendidikan Kristen dalam konteks Indonesia. Studi ini menemukan tiga sektor manajemen pendidikan Kristen mulai dari level terendah sampai tertinggi, yaitu sektor mikro, meso, dan makro. Bidang manajemen pendidikan Kristen dapat lebih maju di masa mendatang karena pemerintah telah mengeluarkan beberapa regulasi terkait peningkatan lembaga pendidikan Kristen melalui berbagai kebijakan. Selain itu, para pemangku kepentingan dan peneliti dalam bidang pendidikan boleh memberikan perhatiaan serius terkait kajian manajemen pendidikan Kristen supaya setiap lembaga pendidikan Kristen dapat menjalankan fungsinya secara efektif dan efisien.

Abstract

Pekerjaan sebagai guru sangat rentan terkena stres. Sayangnya, kajian atau penelitian tentang stres yang dialami guru masih jarang dilakukan pada konteks pendidikan Indonesia. Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengatasi gab tersebut dengan melakukan studi pustaka (literature review) tentang berbagai faktor yang menyebabkan guru mengalami stres. Data untuk proses review diperoleh dari berbagai artikel jurnal dan buku yang relevan dengan stres guru. Berdasarkan hasil review, terdapat tujuh sumber stres guru yang teridentifikasi, yakni perilaku buruk siswa, praktik kepemimpinan kepala sekolah yang tidak sesuai, kurangnya dukungan rekan kerja, tuntutan pekerjaan yang begitu banyak, kekurangan gaji, kondisi pekerjaan yang kurang baik, dan perubahan kebijakan pendidikan. Hasil  kajian ini berkontribusi untuk pengembangan penelitian tentang stres guru di Indonesia. Misalnya, sangat direkomendasikan penelitian selanjutnya melakukan pengembangan instrumen stres guru untuk mendeteksi sumber dan tingkat stres guru dalam konteks pendidikan Indonesia. Selain itu, konselor dan pemimpin lembaga pendidikan, misalnya kepala sekolah, disarankan untuk lebih aktif dalam mengindentifikasi stres guru dan mengupayakan berbagai strategi untuk mengatasi dan mengelola stres guru. Hal tersebut bertujuan supaya potensi guru dapat maksimal dalam mengajar tanpa ada ada stres kerja yang membahayakan.Kata kunci: kepala sekolah, penyebab stres, stres guru, teori stres

Abstract

Every Christian principal has many tasks and responsibilities in managing school which are very tricky because the educational organization needs to operate effectively and efficiently. As a Christian leader, the principal must carry out appropriately the practice of leadership in a time of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Christian principals must conduct effective leadership in order to drive, motivate, and direct all people at the school for attaining the aims of education. This article is to investigate factors contributing to the effectiveness of Christian principal leadership that a literature review was used. The result of the study identified four factors that promote the effectiveness of Christian principal leadership, namely a good relationship with God; having the right attitude, vision, and mission of the school based on Christian values; and the availability of school resources. This study also contributes toward the improvement of the knowledge about Christian school principals. Moreover, researchers and practitioners in Christian education are strongly recommended to explore further the topic of Christian principal leadership for the improvement of Christian school management.

Abstract

The effective school is not a new topic in the education context globally. However, in the context of Indonesian education, this seems neglected. To create an effective school is the responsibility of the principal; therefore, it is very important to uderstand how the school principal can create an effective school. This study aims to investigate what efforts need to be conducted by the school principal in order to create an effective school. Based on the  result of study, there are ten important efforts that need performed by school principal to create effective school, namely: (1) creating vision, mission and goals, (2) making school policies, (3) implementing leadership, (4) conducting crisis management, (5) developing, monitoring, and evaluating curriculum and learning, (6) increasing the professionalism of educators and administrators, (7) managing finances, (8) creating a conducive culture, (9) involving education stakeholders, and (10) optimizing the  utilization of technology and information.
