Abstract

The teaching and learning activity must continue even in any situation or time, and most educational settings use online learning to keep it on the path. To achieve specific goals in 21st-century learning skills, improving students' collaborative skills in problem-solving, solution-finding, decision-making, and bargaining is crucial. The main focus of the investigation was how to improve students' collaborative learning when learning a language. This research explained the phase applied to progress the class interaction through collaborative learning in a virtual classroom. In the learning process, the students were divided into two groups. The first was the learning group, where the students gained knowledge, then regrouped in the teaching group and presented what they had learned from the learning group. Six open-ended questions were given to assess the students’ knowledge-building and experience in the learning and teaching groups. Research showed that most students agreed and were satisfied with this group collaboration activity in a virtual classroom. The result also indicated that students perceive group work satisfaction positively, with an average mean of 3.7. By utilizing video-teleconference technologies to their full potential, students can engage in virtual networking interactions and develop close relationships to solve problems with one another. Even if the entire teaching and learning process takes place online, the students can still engage in discussions with each small group which could result in collaborative learning.

Abstract

This literature review study is based on empirical phenomena that show that the phenomenon of language impoliteness across cultures is increasingly worrying. The implications of the phenomenon of language impoliteness often trigger various social problems among cross-cultural communities. Various forms of language impoliteness are often found, including violating the maxims of politeness and engaging in verbal violence, which, of course, can cause fatal problems. This literature review research aims to describe how much previous research in the last three years discussing language impoliteness was searched through electronic databases, namely Google Scholar, Taylor & Francis Online, and ScienceDirect. Meanwhile, the second research aims to find out how much the issue of language impoliteness is of concern to researchers from various circles so that a conclusion can be reached about the urgency of this research topic. This research method is to search various articles published between 2021 and 2023. The search results found 44 articles on the topic of impoliteness, but in the discussion, we will discuss eight articles that are considered the most representative of the 44 articles. These eight articles can represent all the issues that are the topic of discussion of language impoliteness in cross-cultural societies. Thus, it can be concluded that the topic of language impoliteness is still an important issue that requires further study to find various solutions to this problem

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation of violence in romantic relationships shown in the film *It Ends With Us* through the perspective of contemporary feminism. The focus of this study is how forms of violence, both physical and emotional, are represented and how the film reflects or challenges patriarchal values that are still dominant in interpersonal relationships. The research method used is textual analysis with a qualitative approach, referring to contemporary feminism theories that highlight issues of power, gender, and women's agency. The results show that the movie depicts relationship violence as a complex experience that is often wrapped up in the dynamics of love and forgiveness. Furthermore, the film features the main female character's struggle to redefine her position as an empowered individual in the midst of an oppressive situation. The findings make an important contribution to the discourse on critical awareness of gender-based violence in popular media and its relevance to contemporary feminist struggles.

Abstract

This paper explores the cultural representation in Turning Red, focusing on the use of symbolism and stereotypes. Through an analysis of key motifs and visual elements in the film examines how the narrative reflects and challenges cultural identities, particularly those within the Asian diaspora. The study applies a qualitative content analysis methodology, identifying and interpreting symbols related to culture, tradition, and family dynamics. Key results reveal that the film uses the metaphor of transformation to represent the protagonist’s struggle with generational expectations while also highlighting stereotypes associated with Asian heritage. The analysis also shows how these symbols are both subverted and reinforced throughout the film, creating a complex portrayal of cultural identity. In conclusion, Turning Red presents a nuanced perspective on cultural representation, using symbolism and stereotypes to challenge and affirm cultural narratives, ultimately offering a deeper understanding of generational conflict and cultural belonging.

Abstract

The gender representations conveyed through the language of religious speakers play a significant role in shaping public perceptions of the roles of men and women. This study examines sermons delivered by two popular figures, Ustadz Abdul Somad and Ustadzah Oki Setiana Dewi, to explore how gender constructions are represented through lexical choices, speech styles, and discourse structures. Using a critical language study approach, the findings reveal that although both speakers convey religious messages with different styles, Ustadz Abdul Somad tends to be normative and direct, while Ustadzah Oki adopts a more narrative and emotional approach, both still reproduce traditional gender patterns. Women are often associated with obedience, domesticity, and gentleness, whereas men are portrayed as leaders, protectors, and holders of authority. These findings demonstrate that the language used in religious sermons not only communicates moral and spiritual messages but also contributes to reinforcing social constructions of gender inequality.
