This paper attempts to identify the character and form of interpretation al-Ghazâlî against the Koran, especially when interpreting the verses of the Koran in one of his work, Mishkât al-Anwâr. When viewed from the authority of the text and the author (interpreter), the style of the interpretation of al-Ghazâlî appears to have similarities with the concept of philosophical hermeneutics of Gadamer. But it is not so, there are significant differences between the two. If Gadamer’s model interpretation is called Philosophical Hermeneutics, then the interpretation of al-Ghazâlî style more to the Sufi Hermeneutics. In the end, this paper concluded that al-Ghazâlî’s Sufi Hermeneutics rests on two elements are simples but not smalls; rationality (al-ma‘qûl) led by entities in it like the soul (al-nafs), soul (al-rûh), heart (al-qalb), intellect (al-‘aql), and textuality (al-manqûl) the object stratified into five aspects, namely the existence of essential (wujûd dhâtî), the existence of sensory (wujûd hissî), the existence of imaginative (wujûd khayyâlî), the existence of a rational (wujûd ‘aqlî), the existence of analogical (wujûd shibhî).

The Qur'an contains many verses relating to divine concepts. The explanation of divinity in the Qur'an is closely related to efforts to provide evidence of the truth of the Prophet's message and the truth of the concept of divinity in Islam. This problem is directly related to the divine concept of the Arab community as the object of conveying the al-Qur'an. The closeness of the concept of divinity to the concepts they understand makes the narrative of the verse have to enter and provide an effective rebuttal as possible. In this context, this study aims to find logical reasoning in every verse related to divinity, so that it makes it easy for Arabs to accept and believe in the concepts contained in Islam. To achieve these objectives, this study uses qualitative methods with the type of literature study research. To refine the data analysis process, this study uses the pragmatic philosophical approach of Charles S. Pierce. This research concludes that the narrative built by the Koran in arousing the divine awareness of the Arab community is logically carried out and fully accepted. The narrative is aimed at exposing their belief in the definition of God by doubting existing beliefs. With this doubt, everyone who realizes that a concept that has been believed to be wrong will conduct direct research and observation of the truth of the concept of divinity in Islam. Identification of icons, indexes, symbols correctly to the essence of God led them to an attitude of acceptance of Islam and all forms of divine concepts in it.

This study aims to find new methods and meanings in the interpretation’s field. The finding of the method is intended to provide new insights regarding the objectivity of interpretation which is often disputed by many scholars. Based on this, this study uses qualitative methods with library research techniques. To in depth the data analysis, this study uses the insider and outsider approaches introduced by Kim Knott. This research finds that the synthesis between the interpretation of Western scholars and Islamic scholars produces a textual-historical understanding simultaneously. In the sense that the Quran is understood not only in the emphasis of the law and its sacredness, but also on its historical aspects which involve the cultural and historical structures that surround the Quran. The tendency of Western scholars to understanding the Quran in its critical aspect can suppress the subjectivity of Islam scholars interpretation which tends to be tendentious. In this context, this research concludes that the insider and outsider perspectives are not only used in Islamic studies, but also in specific aspect of Islamic studies. Therefore, the use of this perspective can be applied to other specific fields of Islam, so that an understanding of Islam can be more objective.

Proses pengambilan hukum melalui dalil-dalil syar’i terus berkembang seiring dengan berkembangnya problematika yang dihadapi masyarakat. Salah satu bagian dari jenis istinbat hukum adalah sad al-dhari‘ah. Konsep ini bermula dari prinsip memperhatikan konsekwensi suatu perbuatan. Konsekwensi suatu perbuatan merupakan hal yang dikehendaki oleh syariat Islam, makanya harus diperhatikan dalam penetapan hukum. Prinsip konsekuensi suatu perbuatan erat sekali kaitannya dengan azas kausalitas. Motode ini juga memfokuskan pada pemeliharaan kemaslahatan dan sekaligus mengindari kerusakan.Dengan adanya metode yang lebih memfokuskan pada kemaslahatan diharapkan menjadi satu solusi dalam pembentukan hukum yang dapat terus menjaga kemaslahatan hukum tanpa mengabaikan perkembangan zaman. Metode ini juga diharapkan menjadi sebuah metode preventif sehingga unsur-unsur yang mengarahkan pada perbuatan-perbuatan yang dilarang menjadi terminimalisir.Pembaharuan hukum Islam pada hakikatnya adalah usaha menetapkan hukum yang mampu menjawab permaslahan dan perkembangan baru yang timbul karena kemajuan ilmu pengetahuan dan tekhnologi, dengan menjadikan perkembangan baru itu sebagai pertimbangan hukum agar hukum tersebut betul betul mampu mewujudkan tujuan syari’at. Sedangkan sad al-dharî’ah merupakan suatu metode istinbat hukum yang mementingkan maqâshid al-syari’ah yaitu merealisasikan kemaslahatan umat. Dengan demikian sadd aldzarî’ah sangat relevan dengan pembaharuan hukum Islam yaitu sama sama bertujuan dan memelihara kemaslahatan. Memelihara kemashlahatan merupakan tujuan syara’ (maqashid syari’ah).Kata Kunci: Relevansi, sad al-dharî’ah, Hukum Islam

Cosmology in Javanese perspevtive has big implications to directing the whole concept of its action. This concept animates in every Javanese perception and action when viewing the world, including in the area of interpretation of the Qur’an. One book that consistently presents its identity as a Javanese exegesis is al-Ibri>z by Bisri Mustafa. On that basis, this study aims to find the concept of cosmology in the interpretation of al-Ibri>z. Based on this aims, this research uses descriptive analysis method with the type of literature study. This study also uses data analysis techniques using the hermeneutics method by Hans-Goerg Gadamer. This study found that the relationship between God, nature and humans in the interpretation of al-Ibri>z depicted from human actions in the real world. Humans as the center of the real world, have an obligation to maintain and use the world as possible. As a consequence of this, humans must constantly carry out worship to God and maintain relationships with other humans. The action is an attempt to maintain the balance and peace of their lives in the real world which also has implications in the afterlife.

The Interpretation with transmitted text (riwāyah) which uses to get meaning far away from the influence of ratio (al-ra'y) still cannot occur. Various different narrations for interpreting the same verse in the exegesis via narration (al-tafsīr bi al-ma'thūr) can be evidence of the use of ijtihad in that interpretation model. In this context, this study aims to find evidence and reconceptualize the terms to prove the existence ratio on exegesis via narration. This study uses a qualitative method with the type of study that uses literature research and uses content analysis as an analytical tool. This study finds that the interpreters in the category of exegesis via narration used ratio in the form of transmitted text selection to strengthen the meaning desired. The unawareness of the existence of rationality in the exegesis via narration is caused by the confusion of the terms used which are borrowed from the term of hadith study (muṣṭalah al-ḥadīth). Based on this, this study proposes to redefine that term to illustrate that dichotomy does not refer to the use of transmitted text or ratios in interpretation, but that dichotomy occurs from the proximity of the resulting message to the literal meaning content in interpretation.

Dialogue between Ismā’îl and Ibrāhîm in Q.S. al-S{affāt [37]: 102, is not only focused on the polemic of the determination about child referred in the verse. Likewise, the discussion about this verse is not only abaout ideal model of education for children. Another discussion no less interesting is regarding the response of the Ismā'îl when listening to the slaughtering order from Ibra>hi>m. Although there is no indication in the verse that reffer to communicative process in Ismā'îl to response that command. But in the context of communication, the reception of the message conveyed, allows him to respond the message. To provide a response, symbol processing is needed. So that it can provide an appropriate response. Therefore, to find this process, this study uses a text analysis method with a Sufi Psychological approach. By using these methods and approaches, this study concludes that intrapersonal communication in Ismā’îl involves self-entities consisting of al-rûh}, al-‘aql, and al-qalb. These three entities have their respective concepts of knowledge which clarify one another. In Ismā’îl, the concept of reason knowledge gained from his experiences gives confidence to the truth of the command. Likewise, the maturity of the soul makes it easy for the heart to gain intuitive knowledge that is affirmed by reason, giving rise to an acceptance response to the order.

This research aims to explain the concept of religious tolerance of Mun'im Sirry from the reconstruction and reinterpretation of Sura al-Kafirun. This is library research using qualitative method and descriptive-explanatory research design. The analysis employed in this research is Critical Discourse Analysis by Teun A. Van Dijk. The authors use Critical Discourse Analysis to reveal the various strategic interests behind the writing of Sirry‘s commentary and the struggles of social and understanding of groups. The result of this research explains that the concept of religious tolerance offered by Sirry does not only stop in sociological framework, but, more than that, it also extends tolerance in a theological framework. In Sirry's perspective, Muslims need not only to respect, appreciate, acknowledge differences in belief with followers of other religions and live in harmony (sociological field), they also need to acknowledge the recognition of the possible salvation of other religious followers in the hereafter (theological field). Furthermore, the discourse cannot be separated from the power of the West as the controller of science and the ideologies that influence the discourse are rationalism, empiricism, or neo-mu‘tazilism.

The complexity of the concept waḥdah al-wujūd in Ibn ‘Arabī understanding used in interpretation impacts the ignoring of his interpretation results leading to the essence of servitude and purification of God. The purpose of this study is the form of understanding that accentuates the meaning of the symbols depicted in verse. Tracing of Sufistic narratives in interpreting Ibn ‘Arabi was carried out in this study using qualitative methods with content analysis as a data analysis technique. The content analysis model analyzes the data by looking for conceptual relations in al-Futuḥāt al-Makkiyah by Ibn ‘Arabi about the Sufistic model of understanding. The semiotic theory of sacred texts aids this analysis process to see language phenomena in the scriptures presented through special symbols. This study found that the Sufistic interpretation of Ibn ‘Arabi is wrapped in symbolic form. The dressing of symbols in the process of understanding emphasizes the identification of Sufistic models with the diversion of meanings. This identity obscures Ibn ‘Arabī’s method of interpretation. The symbolic form is explained by analysis of the constitutional significance of the word writing and the function of his syntagmatic. The implications of this concept emphasize the relationship between God and servant (‘abd) implicit in each verse of the Qur’an. The result of the manifested interpretation underlines the totality of servitude and divinity, culminating in the level of the union of existence to God (waḥdah al-wujūd). Ibn ‘Arabī embodies the symbolic aspect represented in the Qur’an as a result of the decline of the language of God into the language of man.

Interpretation is a major component in providing arguments about gender equality in Islam. Interpretation as an explanation of the Qur'an provides for everyone to form their religious behavior. For example the biased interpretation of surah al-Nisâ (4): 1 which explain about relationship between women and men. Some feminist reviewers in Indonesia respond to these interpretations which resulting in several trends. On the basis of this, this study aims to identify some of the trends generated by feminist reviewers in Indonesia by limiting a number of figures, namely M. Qurasih Shihab, Nasaruddin Umar, Husein Muhammad, Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir, Musdah Mulia, and Zaitunah Subhan by using Gadamer's hermeneutic method. This study found that there were two trends by the feminist reviewers. First, the tendency of interpretation which involves the discourse of the text to find the main idea (world view) of the text, so that the resulting interpretation has a moderate tendency. Second, the tendency of interpretation by involving the discourse of feminism to approach the text (verse), thus producing a new paradigm in the interpretation of misogynistic verses. This tendency is caused by the different set of knowledge used in interpreting the verse. projections of knowledge possessed produce tendencies in interpretation.
