Abstract

Mobile learning powered by artificial intelligence (AI) is a promising vision for transforming education by introducing tutoring systems that can personalize learning. It is being developed to ensure that all learners have the opportunity to be autonomous and to advance collaborative learning. NovoLearning was used in this study to implement mobile learning powered by artificial intelligence (AI). NovoLearning's mobile learning platform powered by artificial intelligence (AI) provides a pleasurable experience and practical language learning for English as a Foreign Language students. Each NovoLearning level includes meaningful learning objectives in the areas of vocabulary, grammar syntax, listening, pronunciation, and role-playing. The purpose of this study was to examine the improvement of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) University students at Universitas Lambung Mangkurat in Indonesia who studied the subject of English using artificial intelligence-based mobile learning. This study used a pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design, recruiting two groups: one as the control group, which did not use artificial intelligence-based mobile learning, and another as the experimental group, which did. The result indicates that the t critical value (6.373) is greater than the t table, as indicated by the positive values of the lower score (4.4928) and upper score (8.5195). It is less than 0.05 in the Sig (2-tailed) row. Then it can be concluded that the experimental group's English competence was significantly greater than the control group's. Students' positive attitudes toward AI-based mobile learning encompassed two outcomes: (1) increased opportunities for learning for students and (2) NovoLearning areas for improvement during implementation.

Abstract

Stories encourage young learners to understand concepts and vocabulary while expanding their background knowledge about their surroundings. Therefore, providing young learners with a variety of storybooks to develop their understanding of their environment is important to be done by considering their interests and the content of the books. Based on this view, this research aimed to design a picture storybook written in English and with a wetlands environment. Simultaneously this research and development (R&D) referred to development procedures by Borg and Gall (2007) that simplified the process to only seven procedures: prelim approach methods data collection, research planning, early product development, expert validation, revision, field testing, and the last is disseminating and implementing the final product. The instruments used to collect data were a questionnaire, an interview with 15 kindergarten teachers on the need analysis stage and field testing stage, and two validation sheets validating the content and design stage. The results from data analysis showed that it is important to name some animals and plants that live specifically in South Kalimantan wetlands as the main characters of the storybook, such as timpakul, haruan, papuyu, bekantan, mangrove trees, and kasturi. Next, the developed picture storybook was feasible to be used as media for introducing English and wetlands since it was proven to be valid, practical, and effective.

Abstract

The problems of this research are focused on whether the character values are found in the English textbook or not and how they are reflected. This research analyzes all chapters in the English textbook entitled Pathway to English for SMA/MA Grade X, specifically the reading texts. The approach of this research is qualitative research. In collecting the data, two types of instruments are used which are the researcher herself and the data sheet. The result of this research showed that there are 18 character values reflected in this textbook covering all of them. Appreciation was represented 16 times in the reading texts, being the highest value of all. To reflect appreciation value in teaching and learning process, one of the ways that teachers can do to integrate it is they can motivate the students to produce something useful for themselves as well as society or give rewards to the students who do their jobs well. It can be concluded that this English textbook is ideal as a teaching material for developing character values of students because it contains all 18 character values that the 2013 Curriculum suggests should be included in the textbook. Knowing that the Ministry of Education and Culture requires English textbook for Senior High School to include at least eight values, this book shows that an ideal English textbook exists.
