Abstract

Urgensi mengenai kompetensi guru dalam mengembangkan materi ajar Bahasa Inggris yang efektif dan kontekstual sesuai dengan kehidupan siswa Sekolah Menengah Pertama di Kabupaten Serang memotovasi tim PKM memfokuskan pada moderasi beragama dan nilai-nilai budaya lokal. Ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pola pelatihan dalam pengelolaan bahan pengajaran bahasa Inggris yang mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai Islam dari Wasiatiah dan budaya lokal untuk guru sekolah menengah pertama. PKM ini menggunakan metode tindakan partisipatif atau PAR yang menggunakan berbagai teknik pengumpulan data, yaitu wawancara semi-terstruktur, kelompok diskusi terarah, dan pengamatan partisipatif. Kegiatan pelatihan ini telah berkontribusi pada meningkatnya kompetensi pedagogis guru, terutama dalam hal kemampuan untuk mengembangkan bahan ajar Bahasa Inggris dengan mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai wasiathiyah dan budaya lokal. Dalam praktiknya, peserta pelatihan mengadopsi tiga elemen budaya, yaitu ide; Aktivitas; dan artefak dalam mengembangkan bahan pengajaran bahasa Inggris. Tiga elemen budaya dikembangkan dalam membaca kompetensi, mendengarkan, berbicara, dan menulis presentasi dalam bentuk kalimat, paragraf, teks, dan gambar. Nilai-nilai Islam wasathiyah yang terlihat dari bahan ajar yang telah disusun oleh peserta pelatihan antara lain syura (diskusi), tasamuh (toleran), tathawur wa ibtikar (dinamis, kreatif, dan inovatif), qudwah (keteladanan), tawazun (berimbang), serta musawah (egalitarian).

Abstract

This study to design Semester Instructional Plan and instructional materials of reading courses for English Education Department (further glossed by EED), UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten. To design good Semester Instructional Plan and develop reading materials, this study used Research and Development method by utilizing ADDIE Model. Meanwhile, to gather data this study was used a variety of instruments such as distributed questionnaire to students, conducted interviews, analyzed curriculum document of EED, did consultation to curriculum experts and literacy practitioners. In terms of developing Semester Instructional Plan and instructional materials, this study also referred to manual guideline of developing curriculum from RISTEKDIKTI and learning outcomes in Indonesia Nasional Qualification Framework. The results of this study reveal that in designing Semester Instructional Plan of reading courses, the lecturer must determine learning outcomes which refer to the regulations in National Standard of Higher Education. Moreover, reading strategies and instructional materials at each reading course should be arranged gradually by paying attention to students’ language development and thinking level in order students acquire some reading skills and facilitate them to be skilled readers.

Abstract

The present study has the main objective to test whether the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) method can improve students' reading comprehension on narrative texts. To answer the formulation of the problem, this study utilized a quasi-experimental method by involving an experimental class and a control class with data collection techniques through observation, reading comprehension test, and interviews. The results of this study reveal three main points: First, a comparison between the results of the t-test and t-table at a significant level of 5% showed tt > t0 or 9.13 > 1.67. This means that the Teams Games Tournament can enhance students' reading comprehension on narrative texts. Second, the TGT method can increase student cooperation, train courage to express opinions, build discipline, caution, and tolerance towards fellow students. Third, this method can also create a competitive learning climate and encourage students to become active learners.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of public relations management in improving the image of Islamic boarding schools. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative case study. This research was conducted at Tarbiyatul Mubtadiin Islamic Boarding School, Pasirnangka Tigaraksa, Tangerang, Banten Province. The informants of this study were the pesantren leaders, the head of the public relations department, the administrators of the pesantren, the teachers' administrators, the students' parents, and the surrounding community: the researcher's research instruments, interview guidelines, and observation guidelines. Data analysis includes data reduction and presentation, as well as concluding. The research results indicate that public relations management at Tarbiyatul Mubtadiin Pesantren Pasirnangka Tigaraksa Tangerang is very influential in improving the image of the pesantren, with a sound management system in the form of planning, implementation, and evaluation. All programs can run according to their original purpose. Public relations management at Tarbiyatul Mubtadiin Islamic Boarding School, Pasirnangka Tigaraksa Tangerang, is very effective both in implementation and the results obtained. Although several challenges and obstacles must be faced, all of them can be overcome with a sound public relations management system to achieve a good image.

Abstract

The multiple-choice test is familiar to Foreign English Language Learners (EFL) and is able to measure students' HOTS especially in Indonesia. Although it has a number of limitations, multiple choice is widely used because it is able to measure learning outcomes from the simple to the complex. The aim of this study was to analyze the students' ability to answer Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)-oriented questions in a multiple-choice form. In collecting data, the researchers used a narrative reading test of questions that had been carefully developed by the English teacher with a focus on the top three HOTS domains (e.g., analyzing, evaluating, and creating) and interviews with two students who were taken from upper and lower group. his study employed descriptive qualitative method. Moreover, the data obtained were sorted verified, analyzed, interpreted, drawn conclusions, and presented descriptively-qualitatively. The findings of this study indicated that there was not a single student in the excellent category (0%), 11 students in the good category (37%), 3 students in the fair category (10%), 6 students in the poor category (20%), and 10 students in the very poor category (33%). In addition, based on analysis of students’ answer errors, it was known that the percentage of students’ answer errors on the HOTS-oriented questions was analyzing 25%, evaluating 39%, and creating 36%. This indicated that some ninth-grade students at MTs Satu Atap Tangerang who have not been able to answer the HOTS oriented questions correctly.

Abstract

Program Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini memiliki tujuan utama yaitu untuk memutus mata rantai penyebaran Covid-19 di Provinsi Banten. Dalam kegiatan ini baik Akademisi maupun Tokoh Agama dilibatkan oleh Dinas Kesehatan Provinsi Banten dalam rangka melakukan pembinaan Pembiasaan Hidup Bersih dan Sehat (PHBS) dan adaptasi kebiasaan baru selama masa pandemi Covid 19. Dalam prakteknya, program Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini memiliki tiga tahapan yaitu persiapan, pelaksanaan, serta monitoring dan evaluasi. Output dari program ini dapat dijabarkan dalam dua poin yaitu (1) terciptanya kesadaran kolektif dari masyarakat Banten untuk melaksanakan pembiasaan hidup bersih dan sehat dalam setiap aktiftas di mana pun mereka berada; (2) terciptanya kesadaran masyarakat untuk mematuhi protokol kesehatan agar kehidupan cepat kembali normal dan derajat kesehatan masyarkat Banten dapat meningkat.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the pedagogical challenges faced by EFL Teacher in online teaching and how teacher overcome the pedagogical challenges dealing with online teaching. This study used case study with data collection technique through observations, interviews and document analysis. Based on the research finding, the results showed that, there are four challenges that faced by English teacher such as: (1) The difficulty in designing and delivering material (2) Teacher have difficulty in controlling the intereaction with student (3) Teacher need more time in preparing learning content (4) Teacher have difficulty in giving assignments and assessment for students. To overcome these challenge, the finding shows some solution by doing: (1) Shared the material before learning begin (2) build a good communication with students in online learning process (3) give extra point (4) Using learning media in delivering the material.

Abstract

This research aims to measure the effectiveness of using Web Graphic Organizer to enhance student’s writing skill on descriptive text. There were three research questions proposed in this study, namely: 1) How are the students writing skill on descriptive text before treatment? 2) How the implementation of web graphic organizer 3) How is the effectiveness of Web Graphic Organizer to enhance student’s writing skill on descriptive text. The research design of this study consist of pre-test, treatment and post-test. The final finding of this study showed that t0 on degree of significance 5% that was 1.67 Therefore, the result of t-test showed that t0 < tt or 3.43 > 1.67. In brief, t-test show that Ha or alternative hypothesis was accepted. The hypothesis test shows the effect size in this study is 0.85, while strong effect category is (0.51->1.00). In other words, It can be drawn a conclusion that there is a significant effect of using Web Graphic Organizer to enhance student’s writing skill on descriptive text at the tenth grade of MA Raudhlatul Ulum Anyer.

Abstract

This study endeavors to explore whether there exists a significant discrepancy in students' speaking proficiency between those instructed with the ELSA Speak application and those without it, among twelfth-grade students at SMAN 6 Kota Serang. Employing a quantitative research approach with a quasi-experimental method, the researcher examined 60 twelfth-grade students from SMAN 6 Kota Serang, comprising 30 students from XII MIPA-6 as the experimental group and another 30 students from XII MIPA-3 as the control group. Data collection methods encompassed observation, pre-tests, treatment, and post-tests. Analysis via t-test yielded revealing results: the mean speaking proficiency score for the experimental group was 76.93, while for the control group it stood at 64.26. Furthermore, the calculated t-value was 8.46, surpassing the critical t-value of 1.67 at a significance level of 5%. This disparity between the obtained t-value and the critical t-value led to the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha) and the rejection of the null hypothesis (Ho). In essence, the findings suggest a significant disparity in speaking proficiency between the group using the ELSA Speak application and the group without it. Consequently, these results underscore the importance of integrating technology-based language learning tools such as ELSA Speak into educational curricula, as they have demonstrated efficacy in enhancing students' speaking skills and fostering more effective language acquisition.

Abstract

This study was carried out to obtain empirical evidences on the distribution of the higher order thinking skills (HOTS) based on the revised edition of Bloom’s Taxonomy in the National Examination of English subject on Junior High School level. This study used document analysis method that enables the writers to identify, analyze, and categorize the quality of National Examination questions into Bloom’s taxonomy. the writers employed questions from 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 academic years as sample. The major findings of this study demonstrate that they were only 6 and 9 out of 50 questions or 12% and 18% from two respective National Examinations can be categorized into the higher order thinking skills. Moreover, the writers also found that the highest order thinking skills classified into C4 or analysis ability. Meanwhile, the lower order thinking skills can be found as many as 44 and 41 questions or 88% and 82% from respective each academic year. In conclusion, the writers conclude that the most questions of National Examination in Junior High School Level can be categorized into the Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS). Besides, based on the data the improvement quality of questions was only 6% from two academic years.
