Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of student satisfaction with the performance of lecturers, especially in the lecture processes and academic services; and examine the efforts that made by STKIP Situs Banten in improving the professionalism of lecturers. The study used descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques through questionnaires, document analysis, literature study, and interviews. Data were obtained from the questionnaire was processed using the IBM SPSS Statistics 21 application which was then interpreted descriptively. Meanwhile, the data obtained from the analysis of documents, literature studies, and interviews were analyzed using the interactive model of Milles and Huberman, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentations, and conclusions. The results of this study indicate that overall students feel very satisfied in academic services, this shows that the performance of lecturers can be categorized very well. In addition, some efforts to improve the professionalism of lecturers can be done by developing pedagogical competencies, information engineering competencies, management / administrative competencies, curriculum competencies, scientific competencies (research and publications), evaluation competencies; and personal competence.

Abstract

This present study involved two novice pre-service teachers who had teaching practicum. It focused on their emotion during two-months teaching practicum. Their emotion dealt with personal geography as well as professional geography. The results revealed that pre-service teacher had emotional experience positively and negatively. The emotional experience that pre-service teachers had in personal geographies starting from nervous, anxious, scared, guilty, shame, self-doubt and being oppressed to being calm, being enthusiasm to teach, having self-confidence and having good rapport with school citizens. Meanwhile, in term of professional geographies, pre-service teachers’ emotions were various, ranging from how to adopt theory to practice, confused how to interpret mentor teachers’ feedback to being disciple, learning how to both design lesson plan and manage classroom, learning to dress well and keeping good relation to students, mentor teacher, supervisors, and school staffs. In addition, this study found the culture influence on pre-service teachers personally and professionally. The Indonesia culture to respect senior emerge during teaching practicum such different social status between student and teacher, tendency to underestimate the value of quality and achievement.

Abstract

Penelitian ini secara umum dilakukan untuk memperoleh gambaran mengenai pemberian muatan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris bagi pembelajar Anak Usia Dini (AUD). Saat ini, urgensi pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk AUD tengah menjadi buah bibir. Hal ini terjadi karena perbedaan pendapat yang besar diantara dua kutub teori yaitu teori behavioristik dan teori nativistik. Di satu sisi, kaum behavioristik seperti B.F. Skinner yang mengatakan bahwa bahasa dipelajari melalui sebuah proses pengkondisian dengan memberikan penguatan dan peniruan. Teori ini meyakini bahwa setiap anak ketika dilahirkan tidak memiliki kemampuan bawaan untuk menguasai atau memahami suatu struktur linguistik tertentu. Di sisi lain, menurut teori nativistik yang dipelopori Noah Chomksy meyakini bahwa semua anak sejak dilahirkan telah memiliki kemampuan bahasa yang dikenalkan dengan Language Acquation Device (yang diartikan oleh Darjowidjoyo sebagai Piranti Pemerolehan Bahasa) yang memungkinkan anak untuk memperoleh bahasa dan memproduksi sebuah kalimat yang terdiri dari kata-kata yang telah diperolehnya. Melihat terjadinya perbedaan mencolok dari dua kutub teori tersebut, mendorong peneliti untuk mengadakan sebuah studi di TK Visi Insan Cendekia (VIC) Kota Serang dengan cara mengobservasi kegiatan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris dengan menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif-analitis. Untuk memperoleh data yang valid, peneliti menggunakan beberapa teknik pengumpulan data seperti wawancara, analisis dokumen RPPH yang dibuat oleh guru, dan observasi kelas ketika pemberian muatan Bahasa Inggris kepada AUD. Hasil akhir dari studi ini mengungkapkan bahwa pemberian muatan bahasa inggris bagi siswa TK VIC dilakukan dengan cara menyisipkan ujaran-ujaran atau kosa kata Bahasa Inggris dalam proses pembelajaran dan proses interaksi di sekolah yang dikaitkan dengan tema belajar setiap hari. Hal ini mendukung teori pemerolehan bahasa yang dikemukana oleh Chomsky yang mengatakan bahwa pemerolehan bahasa kedua (L2/Second Language) seyognyanya dilakukan sebagaimana bahasa pertama (L1/First Language) diperoleh, yaitu dengan cara seilmiah mungkin dengan menggunakan ujaran sederhana yang sesuai dengan konteks kehidupan sehari-hari.

Abstract

Dalam satu dekade terakhir ini, implementasi pendidikan karakter sedang menjadi top issue yang mencuat di dunia pendidikan tanah air. Urgensi penerapan pendidikan karakter sekarang ini dirasa menjadi suatu keharusan jika kita melihat dan mengamati fenomena pendidikan Indonesia yang mengalami degradasi moral yang dilakukan oleh siswa mapun guru yang merupakan sosok penting dalam mensukseskan tujuan pendidikan. Pendidikan karakter pada dasarnya bertujuan mengembangkan kemampuan peserta didik untuk dapat membedakan antara perbutan yang baik dan perbutan yang buruk, memelihara perbuatan yang baik, dan mewujudkan perbuatan baik itu dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Oleh karena itu, pendidikan karakter pada hakikatnya melibatkan aspek pengetahuan (cognitive), perasaan (affective), dan tindakan (psychomotor). Tidak dapat dipungkiri bahwa penanaman pendidikan karakter bukanlah dilakukan dalam pembelajaran agama dan pendidikan kewarganegaraan saja, namun, applikasi pendidikan karakter ini juga harus dilaksanakan di semua mata pelajaran tidak terkecuali mata pelajaran bahasa dan sastra baik Bahasa Indonesia maupun Bahasa Inggris. Akhirnya, pentingnya pendidikan karakter tercermin dari kata mutira berikut ini: “When wealth is lost; nothing is lost, when health is lost; something is lost, and when character is lost; everything is lost”.

Abstract

In the present study, TOEFL as a standardize test is used UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin as one of requisites to complete study. This study aims to analyze the most difficult reading skills for students of English Education Department (further glossed by EED) and their problems on the reading section of TOEFL. It employed a case study, in which 22 EED students were involved in the TOEFL test which carried out by Language Development Center, UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten. There were three instruments used: archival record of TOEFL test, questionnaire and interviews. The findings of this study found that finding main idea was the most difficult reading skills, Meanwhile, some problems of EED students on the reading section of TOEFL test were limited vocabulary mastery, lack of grammatical knowledge and reading skills, unfamiliar with the topic, as well as low concentration, physical endurance, and limited time.

Abstract

This study was carried out to obtain empirical evidences on the distribution of the higher order thinking skills (HOTS) based on the revised edition of Bloom’s Taxonomy in the National Examination of English subject on Junior High School level. This study used document analysis method that enables the writers to identify, analyze, and categorize the quality of National Examination questions into Bloom’s taxonomy. the writers employed questions from 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 academic years as sample. The major findings of this study demonstrate that they were only 6 and 9 out of 50 questions or 12% and 18% from two respective National Examinations can be categorized into the higher order thinking skills. Moreover, the writers also found that the highest order thinking skills classified into C4 or analysis ability. Meanwhile, the lower order thinking skills can be found as many as 44 and 41 questions or 88% and 82% from respective each academic year. In conclusion, the writers conclude that the most questions of National Examination in Junior High School Level can be categorized into the Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS). Besides, based on the data the improvement quality of questions was only 6% from two academic years.

Abstract

This study aims to explore English teacher’s teaching strategies to build students’ confidence to practice speaking English. Case study was used as research method with data collection techniques through classroom observation and interviews. The results of this study showed that the three teaching strategies (partner work, modeled talk, and story reenactment) had significant implications for students’ confidence to practice speaking English. This was reflected in various attitudes of students, namely students’ persistence and desire to practice speaking English, a high sense of optimism and learning motivation, students’ open-mindedness to receive positive feedbacks from teacher, mental and physical health state, students’ ability to adapt to subject matter in order to achieve learning objectives, as well as encouragement to become autonomous learners.

Abstract

This study aims to help the English Education Department at UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten develop its semester instructional plans and reading course materials. The ADDIE Model was utilized in this study's research and development process to create an effective semester instructional plan and to create reading materials. Meantime, a number of tools were employed in this study to collect data, including questionnaires issued to students, interviews, curriculum document analysis for EED, and consult to curriculum experts and literacy practitioners. The finding of this study reveals that lecturers must choose learning objectives that are in accordance with the National Standard for Higher Education when creating semester instructional plans for reading courses. Moreover, in order to help students build some reading abilities and help them become proficient readers, reading strategies and instructional materials at each reading course should be arranged gradually while taking into account students' language development and thinking ability.

Abstract

Program Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini memiliki tujuan utama yaitu untuk memutus mata rantai penyebaran Covid-19 di Provinsi Banten. Dalam kegiatan ini baik Akademisi maupun Tokoh Agama dilibatkan oleh Dinas Kesehatan Provinsi Banten dalam rangka melakukan pembinaan Pembiasaan Hidup Bersih dan Sehat (PHBS) dan adaptasi kebiasaan baru selama masa pandemi Covid 19. Dalam prakteknya, program Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini memiliki tiga tahapan yaitu persiapan, pelaksanaan, serta monitoring dan evaluasi. Output dari program ini dapat dijabarkan dalam dua poin yaitu (1) terciptanya kesadaran kolektif dari masyarakat Banten untuk melaksanakan pembiasaan hidup bersih dan sehat dalam setiap aktiftas di mana pun mereka berada; (2) terciptanya kesadaran masyarakat untuk mematuhi protokol kesehatan agar kehidupan cepat kembali normal dan derajat kesehatan masyarkat Banten dapat meningkat.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The main objective of this study was to examine the correlation between students’ grammar mastery and their speaking ability at the eighth grade of MTs Nurul Huda Baros. There is one research question in this study, which is “What is the relation-ship between students’ grammar mastery and speaking ability at the eighth grade of MTs Nurul Huda Baros?” This study used the correlation method and involved 31 students. In taking the sample of the research, the researcher used a cluster random sampling technique. To obtain valid and reliable data, the researcher conducted multiple choice for the grammar tests, and performance tests for the speaking test. The final finding of this study reveals that the significance test was 0.466. In other words, it can be interpreted that a significance level of 0.05 was 0.334. Due to the observed being higher than critical (0.466> 0.334). The conclusion of this study was that there was a correlation between students’ grammar mastery and their speaking ability in the eighth grade of MTs Nurul Huda Baros.
