Abstract

This research aims to develop learning media by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) that is able to detect the emotions of prospective teacher during genetics lectures. Using AI technology, this system can evaluate the cognitive load of students in real-time through facial expression analysis. The method used involves collecting data from lecture sessions, which are then analyzed using machine learning algorithms to identify cognitive load levels. The results of the study show that this learning media is able to identify students' emotions. This learning media is equipped with accurate emotion detection features, interactive learning materials, and an informative dashboard to monitor student learning progress. The implementation of this technology is expected to improve the quality of learning and help students achieve a better understanding of genetics courses.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to test the reliability, validity and wright person-items of the test instrument. It used to measure students' cognitive system thinking in genetics lectures. This cognitive system dimension (New Marzano Taxonomy) consists of 4 levels: retrieval, comprehension, analysis, and knowledge utilization. The research method used was descriptive quantitative, with respondents as many as 116 undergraduate students who had attended genetics lectures. The instrument used consisted of 20 multiple-choice questions developed from 4 levels of the cognitive dimension of the system. Data analysis using the Rasch Model-Dichotom to generate more accurate estimates based on individual abilities and difficulty levels of question items. The results showed that the Alpha Cronbach and Item Reliability value on the instrument was 0.81 (Very Good) to 0.92 (Best). Furthermore, person reliability is 0.63 (Moderate). It can be concluded the interaction between the question items and the quality of the question items on the test instrument indicates that the instrument effectively assesses constructs and is relevant for measuring the level of cognitive system thinking. Revisions are made to items that are too easy or too difficult, as well as a review of items with similar difficulties. So it can be assessed that this test has the potential to be widely used in measuring cognitive ability, but some improvements are needed to further improve its reliability for other population.

Abstract

The study addresses the complexities inherent in teaching and learning biology, a subject that is often challenging for students due to its intricate concepts. Focusing on the intersection of pedagogy and technology, this research evaluates the perceptions of high school teachers and students towards the integration of contemporary learning media in biology instruction. Utilizing a descriptive and quantitative approach, the research engaged a purposively sampled cohort of educators and learners to explore their views. this study involved 56 teachers and 133 students spread across several schools. Data were gleaned through a combination of structured questionnaires and interviews, subsequently subjected to quantitative analysis. The findings reveal a consensus on the critical role of media in facilitating biology education. Teachers and students agree that technology-based media can improve understanding of biological concepts and strengthen student engagement. While there is a significant reliance on media to convey biological concepts, the findings indicate that the potential of technology-based media. However, the study uncovers a lag in the effective deployment of technological resources, with interactive multimedia being underutilized by a notable fraction of educators. This gap underscores the need for enhanced strategies to foster the adoption of technology-enhanced learning tools in the biological sciences. Keywords: interactive, multimedia, science, technology

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate teacher engagement as a multidimensional, reflective construct comprising four dimensions: academic support, emotional support, guidance support, and assessment support. This study employed a quantitative approach with a survey design using cluster sampling across four public senior high schools. A total of 1.359 eleventh-grade students from four public senior high schools in Pekanbaru participated by completing a 24-item questionnaire, which was analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). This study used a reflective–reflective hierarchical component model, in which both the first-order dimensions and the second-order teacher engagement construct were specified as reflective. The results indicate that all indicators exhibited outer loading values above 0.70, and each dimension met the criteria for internal reliability and convergent validity, with an average variance extracted (AVE) of 0.573–0.639. Discriminant validity was also established based on the Fornell–Larcker criterion and the HTMT ratio. At the higher-order level, teacher engagement demonstrated excellent reliability, despite the AVE value being below the conventional threshold, a common outcome in reflective hierarchical models. All four dimensions contributed significantly to the higher-order construct, with emotional support emerging as the dominant component. These findings highlight that teacher engagement in the Indonesian context is perceived as a multidimensional phenomenon strongly shaped by teachers’ emotional and instructional support. The measurement model developed in this study provides a solid foundation for future research and the development of interventions to enhance teaching quality in schools.
