Abstract

Productive pedagogies describe the ability of an educator in implementing learning process. This ability should be owned by prospective teacher students in order to improve teacher professionalism in the future. This research was conducted to obtain an overview of productive pedagogies for students of biology education study programs. Productive pedagogies are measured based on three dimensions, namely intellectual quality, relevance, and mastery of the classroom environment for prospective teacher students who carry out teaching practices in the sixth semester of the microteaching lecture T.A 2018/2019. This research is a descriptive study conducted in January-May 2019. The assessment of productive pedagogies was measured by using a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire. Data acquisition was analyzed by converting low to very high values. Based on the overall dimensions measured through the questionnaire, the lowest average was found on the relevance dimension of 82.4 and the highest in the dimensions of intellectual quality was 84.95 with a very good category. The results showed that 74% of prospective teacher students argued that productive pedagogies were in the very high category.

Abstract

The study aims to determine the validity of biotechnology modules containing research results for biology students. This is a design and development research project with the Plomp model development. The type of data in this study consisted of qualitative data obtained from the module validation sheet with a Likert Scale. The validation sheets in the form of questionnaires were given to the validators, who are experts on content, media, and linguistics. The aspects assessed in the validation sheets were all very valid, with values of 3.5, 3.8, 3.7, and 3.7 for content eligibility, presentation, linguistic, and graphic components, respectively. The mean score of the validity test was 3.7, which was in the category of very valid. It can be concluded that the study can be continued to the next level of the Plomp development model.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of Extranous Cognitive Load (ECL) of students through mental effort in learning activities. Mental effort can be known and analyzed from external or foreign aspects, such as learning design and learning strategies undertaken. The source of the burden obtained in the learning process is known as ECL. The effectiveness of ECL is influenced by information and learning activities that contribute to the process of constructing students' cognitive schemes in learning process received. Good learning process happen if the ECL owned by student is in low category. ECL is measured by the mental effort of students in attending lecture activities. This research is a descriptive study, which was carried out on the fourth semester students of biology education who took part in the ethics and professional education classes. ECL measurements were measured using a mental effort questionnaire during the lecture. The data acquired is analyzed on the conversion of values in the low to high categories. The results showed that in the lecturing activities the student’s mental effort average was in the low category at 32.45. A low mental effort represents a low extranous cognitive load (ECL). It can be concluded that the learning strategies carried out in the ethics and education professional lectures can suppress ECL biology education students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the ECL of prospective teacher students during lectures. ECL is obtained from the mental effort of students in attending lectures or teaching and learning processes because it will affect the process of constructing students' cognitive schemas from the information received during the learning process. Learning activities are effective and efficient if the ECL of students is in the low category. Data collection was carried out on biology education students who attended group lectures for pedagogic courses and biological science content in the odd semester 2020/2021. This is a descriptive study which was conducted in March-September 2021, with the determination of the sample, namely purposive random sampling. ECL was measured using a mental effort questionnaire in each course in the learning process. The data obtained were analyzed in the conversion of low to high scores, then compared between semester levels to provide an overview of student ECL. The results showed that the mental effort of prospective teacher students was in the low category. The ECL of prospective biology education teacher students is low.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui ECL mahasiswa calon guru selama perkuliahan berlangsung.  ECL diperoleh dari usaha mental mahasiswa dalam mengikuti perkuliahan atau proses belajar mengajar karena akan memberikan pengaruh proses konstruksi skema kognitif peserta didik dari informasi yang diterima selama pembelajaran berlangsung. Kegiatan pembelajaran yang efektif dan efisien apabila ECL peserta didik berada pada kategori rendah. Pengambilan data dilaksanakan pada mahasiswa pendidikan biologi yang mengikuti perkuliahan kelompok mata kuliah pedagogik dan konten keilmuan biologi pada semester Ganjil 2020/2021. Penelitian ini adalah deskriptif yang dilaksanakan pada bulan Maret-September 2021, dengan penentuan sampel yaitu purposive random sampling. ECL diukur menggunakan angket usaha mental pada setiap mata kuliah dalam proses pembelajaran. Perolehan data dianalisis pada konversi nilai rendah hingga tinggi, selanjutnya dan dibandingkan antar tingkatan semester untuk memberikan gambaran ECL mahasiswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa usaha mental mahasiswa calon guru berada pada kategori rendah. Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the initial investigation data obtained as a basis for the development of biotechnology modules containing research results that will be developed later. The development model used in this study is the Plomp model which has been carried out until the initial investigation data stage. The results revealed in the analysis of the curriculum and the Semester Learning Plan (RPS) there were ten topics in biotechnology learning. The results of interviews conducted with lecturers in biotechnology courses also revealed obstacles in the implementation of biotechnology lectures, one of which was the lack of student references to study biotechnology. Student problem questionnaire revealed that students do not yet have a biotechnology module with a percentage of 1.08%. Student needs questionnaire revealed that students strongly agree the need to develop biotechnology modules containing research results with a percentage of 100%. The conclusion of this study is the need to develop biotechnology modules containing research results for biology students to help the lecture process in the classroom. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan data investigasi awal yang didapatkan sebagai dasar pengembangan modul bioteknologi bermuatan hasil riset yang akan dikembangkan nantinya. Model pengembangan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah model Plomp yang telah dilakukan sampai tahap data investigasi awal. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan pada analisis kurikulum dan Rencana Pembelajaran Semester (RPS) terdapat 8 topik dalam pembelajaran bioteknologi. Hasil wawancara yang telah dilakukan terhadap dosen pengampu mata kuliah biotekologi juga mengungkapkan kendala yang terdapat pada pelaksanaan perkuliahan bioteknologi yang salah satunya kurangnya referensi mahasiswa untuk mempelajari bioteknologi. Angket permasalahan mahasiswa mengungkapkan mahasiswa belum memiliki modul bioteknologi dengan presentase 1,08%. Angket kebutuhan mahasiswa mengungkapkan mahasiswa sangat setuju perlu dikembangkannya modul bioteknologi bermuatan hasil riset dengan presentase 100%. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah perlu dikembangkannya modul bioteknologi bermuatan hasil riset untuk mahasiswa biologi untuk membantu proses perkuliahan di kelas. Kata kunci: hasil riset, modul bioteknologi, studi pendahuluan

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the preliminery research phase data obtained as a basis for the development of learning and learning modules containing research results that will be developed later. The development model used in this study is the Plomp model which has been carried out until the initial investigation data stage. Preliminary investigation data revealed some initial findings including; analyzing the Semester Learning Plan (RPS), interviews with learning and learning lecturers in the Biology Education Study Program FKIP Riau Islamic University, student questionnaire problems in conducting learning and learning lectures, student needs questionnaire in learning and learning lectures, and analysis of learning and learning modules used in learning and learning teaching materials previously in learning and learning lectures. The results revealed in the analysis of the Semester Learning Plan (RPS) there were thirteen topics in learning and learning. The results of interviews conducted with lecturers in learning and learning courses also revealed obstacles in the implementation of learning and learning lectures, one of which was the lack of student references to study learning and learning. Student problem questionnaire revealed that students do not yet have a learning and learning module with a percentage of 13.71%. Student needs questionnaire revealed that students strongly agree the need to develop learning and learning modules containing research results with a percentage of 100%. The learning and learning module that has been used in the learning process does not meet the standards of the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education Directorate General of Learning and Student Affairs Directorate of Learning in 2017. The conclusion of this study is the need to develop learning and learning modules containing research results for biology students to help the lecture process in the classroom.Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan data preliminery research phase yang didapatkan sebagai dasar pengembangan modul belajar dan pembelajaran bermuatan hasil riset yang akan dikembangkan nantinya. Model pengembangan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah model Plomp yang telah dilakukan sampai tahap data investigasi awal. Instrumen pengumpulan data menggunakan wawancara, observasi dan angket. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan pada analisis Rencana Pembelajaran Semester (RPS) terdapat 13 topik dalam perkuliahan belajar dan pembelajaran. Angket permasalahan mahasiswa mengungkapkan mahasiswa belum memiliki modul bioteknologi dengan presentase 13,71%. Angket kebutuhan mahasiswa mengungkapkan mahasiswa sangat setuju perlu dikembangkannya modul belajar dan pembelajaran bermuatan hasil riset dengan presentase 100%. Abstract

This study aims to see the Critical Thinking Ability through Class Discussion of Excretion System Material. The sample of this study consisted one class, the sample were determined using purposive sampling technique. This type of research is a survey approach which aims to identify a symptom or effect that arises as a result of certain treatments. The data obtained were students' critical thinking skills. Assessment of critical thinking skills is carried out in accordance with six indicators of critical thinking, namely: 1) Focus (focus), 2) Argument (Reason), 3) Conclusion (inference), 4) Situation, 5) Clarity, 6) Overview. The results showed that of the 17 critical thinking questions tested obtained different presentations. 37.78% of students' answers in the very good category and 44.44% in the good category and 2.22 in the very low category. This proves that students think in the excretion system material is good.   Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis Melalui  Diskusi Kelas Materi Sistem Ekskresi. Sampel penelitian ini terdiri dari satu kelas, penentuan sampel dengan dengan menggunakan teknik sampling purposive. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian survei yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui suatu gejala atau pengaruh yang timbul, sebagai akibat dari adanya perlakuan tertentu. Data yang diperoleh ialah kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa. Penilaian kemampuan berpikir kritis dilakukan sesuai dengan enam indikator berpikir kritis yaitu: 1) Fokus (fokus), 2) Argumen (Reason), 3) Kesimpulan (inference), 4) Situasi  (Situation), 5) Kejelasan (Clarity), 6) Tinjauan Lanjut (Overview). Hasil Penelitian menunjukkan dari 17 soal berpikir kritis yang diuji memperoleh presentasi yang berbeda. 37,78% jawaban mahasiswa pada katagori sangat baik dan 44,44% berada pada katagori baik dan 2,22 pada katagori Sangat Rendah. Ini membuktikan berpikir mahasiswa pada materi sistem ekskresi sudah baik. Kata kunci: berpikir kritis, diskusi kelas, sistem ekskresi

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effectiveness of biotechnology modules with research results on biology student competencies. This research is an experimental study using a two-on-average test. The data collection instruments in this study are test learning outcomes for measuring cognitive competence and obsevatoin sheets for affective. The try out were conducted in 41 students of Biology Education Study Program was taking a biotechnology course at Riau Islamic University. The Results of this study show that biotechnology modules with research results on biology student competencies is very effective. The average cognitive competency of the experimental class is higher (83.84) than the control class (53.75), the average experimental class affective competence (88.70) is in the control class (69.76). The conclusion is the effectiveness of biotechnology modules with research results on biology student competencies is effective.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas modul bioteknologi bermuatan hasil riset terhadap kompetensi mahasiswa biologi. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen dengan menggunakan uji dua rata-rata. Instumen pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini adalah tes hasil belajar untuk mengukur kompetensi kognitif, dan lembar observasi untuk kompetensi afektif. Uji coba dilakukan pada 41 orang mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Biologi yang mengambil mata kuliah Bioteknologi di Universitas Islam Riau. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa modul bioteknologi bermuatan hasil riset sangat efektif. Rata-rata kompetensi kognitif kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi (83.84) dibandingkan kelas kontrol (53.75), dan rata-rata kompetensi afektif kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi (88.70) dibandingkan kelas kontrol (69.76). Kesimpulannya adalah modul bioteknologi bemuatan hasil riset untuk mahasiswa biologi sudah efektif.Kata kunci: efektivitas, hasil riset, kompetensi, modul bioteknologi

Abstract

Mental effort is the ability of students to face the existing learning environment. Mental effort will affect Extranous Cognitive Load (ECL). ECL can affect the ability to receive and process student information (MMI). MMI will affect the cognitive work memory of students in storing and processing data. This study aims to determine the relationship between UM and MMI of students in biology learning. This research is a descriptive study, with a sample of high school class XI students in Pekanbaru City who took excretory system material learning. The results showed that the UM scores of students were in the very low category which showed that the ECL of students was in the low category. The MMI value obtained by students is in a fairly good category. The correlation between UM-MMI shows an inverse relationship. This shows that the low UM can increase the MMI value and can support a decrease in the cognitive load of students in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the productive pedagogies skills of prospective teachers in implementing learning in the pandemic era. These skills indicate the professional level of a teacher in carrying out their duties. Ideally the teacher should be able to show every dimension of productive pedagogies during the learning process. Productive pedagogies of a teacher can be seen from three dimensions, namely intellectual quality, relevance, and mastery of the classroom environment. The implementation of this descriptive research is carried out in the implementation of teaching by biology education teacher candidate students who do Field Experience Practices. Productive pedagogies are measured using a Likert scale questionnaire and observation sheets on the implementation of learning. The data obtained were analyzed on the conversion of values ​​with the low to high category, and then the comparison was carried out using the scheme to provide a description of the productive pedagogies' domination. The research findings show that the productive pedagogies of biology teacher candidates based on a questionnaire (85.75) and the implementation of learning (93.00) are in the very good category. The rating of each dimension of productive pedagogies is in the very good category. It can be concluded that prospective biology teachers are considered ready to face learning situations both offline and online with good learning strategies.
