Abstract

Indonesia's PISA test results in the last three periods still rank in the bottom ten. This shows that the mathematics ability of Indonesian students is still low. This research aims to explore the higher order thinking processes experienced by junior high school students in solving PISA questions before and during scaffolding. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 3 Singosari, Malang Regency, in the form of giving tests to 31 students of class IX, interviews and scaffolding. Scaffolding is done in order to complete the unfulfilled aspects in the phases of thinking. From this research, it was found that: (1) The high-level thinking process of students in solving PISA questions, before scaffolding has included the three phases that must be passed (the entry phase, the attack phase, and the review phase), but not all aspects of each phase are fulfilled; (2) Scaffolding has helped students in solving PISA questions. Improve the teacher's ability to do scaffolding to help students find aha! with more attention to the obstacles (stuck?) faced by students

Abstract

Hasil tes PISA Indonesia dalam tiga periode terakhir masih menempati posisi sepuluh terbawah. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan matematika siswa Indonesia masih rendah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi proses berpikir tingkat tinggi yang dialami siswa SMP dalam menyelesaikan soal PISA sebelum dan saat scaffolding. Penelitian  ini dilaksanakan di SMP Negeri 3 Singosari, Kabupaten Malang, berupa pemberian tes kepada 31 siswa kelas IX, wawancara dan scaffolding. Scaffolding dilakukan dalam rangka melengkapi aspek-aspek yang belum terpenuhi dalam fase-fase berpikir. Dari penelitian ini diperoleh bahwa: (1) Proses berpikir tingkat tinggi siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal PISA, sebelum scaffolding telah memuat ketiga fase yang harus dilalui (fase entry, fase attack, dan fase review) tetapi tidak semua aspek pada setiap fase terpenuhi; (2) Scaffolding telah membantu siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal PISA. Tingkatkan kemampuan guru dalam melakukan scaffolding untuk membantu siswa menemukan aha! dengan lebih cermat terhadap kendala (stuck?) yang dihadapi siswa.

Abstract

This research development aims to produce a learning device characterized by valid guided discoveries. The development of learning tools refers to the Thiagarajan, Semmel, and Semmel (1974) model, which is the development of Four-D, which is modified into Three-D. This development model consists of 3 stages of development, namely define, desig, and develop. Assessment of the quality of learning tools in this study consisted of evaluating validity. Learning tools are said to be valid if according to the judgment of experts and practitioners have content validity and construct validity. From the development results obtained learning tools (learning media, lesson plans, and mastery test material) quadratic function material characterized by guided discoveries, can be categorized valid. Based on the results of the development of learning tools obtained that the learning tools (learning media, lesson plans, and mastery tests of materials) are categorized valid in a row that is 3.05; 3.1; 3.1 and have met the specified criteria.Keywords: development, learning tools, guided discovery, quadratic functions

Abstract

to identity the types of errors made by students to solving the problem of quadratic equations in SMK Kartika IV-1 Malang. Research method used is qualitative descriptive research. Subject in the research were 3 students with low, medium, high mathematics ability category. Based on the analysis of obtained can be concluded that studen make conceptual errors, procedural errors, and computation errors. For example factor causing the students to make errors are the students less mastered and understand the matter about quadratic equations, students are less thorough the problem and student not understand step by step to solving problem of quaratic equations.

Abstract

The facts show that there are still many students who make mistakes in solving fraction story questions. The research objective was to identify and analyze student errors in solving fraction story questions. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study. The research subjects were three grade VII junior high school students who were all girls. Subjects were given two tests of fraction story questions. This research was started from August 2016 to January 2017. The test answer sheets were identified, then analyzed. The results showed that almost all the errors of Newman procedure were carried out by the subject, namely: (1) reading (2) understanding (3) transformation errors (4) skills skills and (5) layout and different intensity of errors for each subject. Causes: (1) reduced verbal ability (2) low algorithmic ability (3) error prerequisite material (4) accuracy (5) lack of desire to solve questions.Keywords: story problem, fraction, Newman procedure

Abstract

The ability of geometry is an aspect that underlies students to solve geometry problems. Several studies have stated students' difficulties in learning geometry. There are five levels of expansion of Van Hiele's theory, namely level 0, level 0.5, level 1, level 1.5, and level 2 which are used to measure the geometry abilities of junior high school students. Students' low geometry skills can be improved through scaffolding, so an appropriate scaffolding design is needed. This study aims to describe the appropriate scaffolding design based on the geometry ability test of junior high school students in terms of the expansion of Van Hiele's theory. The research subjects in this study consisted of 3 students of class VIII of SMP Negeri 8 Malang divided into 3 different levels of geometry ability, namely level 0, 0.5, and 1. Data collection methods consisted of written tests and interviews. The results showed that students at level 1 needed scaffolding to be able to connect the properties between quadrilateral shapes. Students at level 0.5 require scaffolding in the form of conceptual understanding of prerequisite materials. While students at level 0 need scaffolding to minimize the prototype phenomenon.

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to describe the mathematical representation ability of students with reflective cognitive style in solving geometric  problems. The subjects of this study were two students whose reflective cognitive style were selected based on the results of the MFFT test. The research method used was descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The ability of mathematical representation was described based on three standards of mathematical representation ability, namely; (1) creating and using representations to organize, record, and communicate mathematical ideas, (2) choosing, using and translating between representations to solve problems, (3) using representations to create models and interpret mathematical, physical, and social phenomena. The results showed that subjects with reflective cognitive style can use mathematical representation capabilities well from various types of representations, namely visual images, verbal written texts, and mathematical expressions.Key Words: mathematical representation ability, reflective cognitive style, geometric problemAbstrak: Riset ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa bergaya kognitif reflektif dalam menyelesaikan masalah bangun datar. Subjek penelitian ini adalah dua siswa yang bergaya kognitif reflektif yang dipilih berdasar hasil tes MFFT. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Kemampuan representasi matematis dideskripsikan berdasar tiga standar kemampuan representasi matematis, yaitu; (1) membuat dan menggunakan representasi untuk mengorganisasikan, mencatat, dan mengkomunikasikan ide-ide matematika, (2) memilih, menggunakan dan menerjemahkan antar representasi untuk menyelesaikan masalah, (3) menggunakan representasi untuk membuat model dan menginterpretasi fenomena matematis, fisik, dan sosial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa subjek dengan gaya kognitif reflektif dapat menggunakan kemampuan representasi matematis dengan baik dari berbagai jenis representasi, yaitu visual gambar, verbal teks tertulis, dan ekspresi matematis.Kata kunci: kemampuan representasi matematis, gaya kognitif reflektif, masalah geometris

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research was to find out the teaching materials that needed to be developed in Cell Biology courses at Malang City Universities. The study was conducted on students who have taken Cell Biology courses in four college at the Malang city. The type of research conducted is quantitative descriptive research. The results showed that students were interested in Cell Biology courses and in the Cell Biology course there were several topics which were considered difficult including cell division, cell division control, and cancer, while for the results of the study related to the availability of teaching materials used, data were obtained that in three universities, namely UNISMA, UMM, and IKIP Budi Utomo, the percentage was more than 50% while for UIN the percentage was 48%. Students consider teaching that has not been able to construct understanding of concepts in studying Cell Biology courses so it is necessary to develop research-based module teaching materials.Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bahan ajar yang perlu dikembangkan pada matakuliah Biologi Sel di Perguruan Tinggi Kota Malang. Penelitian dilakukan terhadap mahasiswa yang telah menempuh matakuliah Biologi Sel di empat Perguruan Tinggi kota Malang. Jenis penelitian yang dilakukan adalah penelitian deksriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa tertarik pada matakuliah Biologi Sel dan pada matakuliah Biologi Sel terdapat beberapa topik yang dianggap sulit antara lain pembelahan sel, pengendalian pembelahan sel, dan kanker. Hasil penelitian terkait ketersediaan bahan ajar yang digunakan diperoleh data bahwa pada tiga perguruan tinggi yaitu UNISMA, UMM, dan IKIP Budi Utomo diperoleh persentase lebih dari 50% sedangkan untuk UIN didapatkan persentase sebesar 48%.  Mahasiswa menganggap ajar yang digunakan belum dapat mengonstruk pemahaman konsep dalam mempelajari mata kuliah Biologi Sel sehingga perlu adanya pengembangan bahan ajar modul berbasis penelitian.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to describe the process and the development result of students worksheet assisted by Tangram with Open-Ended Orientation about Quadrilaterals and Triangles. The development model is modified from Plomp stage are preliminary research, prototyping phase, and assesment phase. The field trial conducted to 20 students. The result shows product is valid from score of lesson plan is  and the score of worksheet is . Product is practical since the score of observation of learning effectiveness is  and questionnaire of student is The product is also effective based on the student’s evaluation test result which shows that 85% students reach the minimum score.Abstrak: Tujuan penelitian adalah mendeskripsikan proses dan hasil pengembangan lembar kegiatan siswa berbantuan tangram bercirikan open-ended tentang segiempat dan segitiga yang valid, praktis, dan efektif. Peneliti modifikasi model pengembangan Plomp yang terdiri dari preliminary research, prototyping phase, dan assesment phase. Uji coba dilakukan 20 siswa. Produk dikatakan valid ditinjau dari hasil uji validasi RPP dengan skor  dan validasi LKS dengan skor . Produk dikatakan praktis ditinjau dari hasil pengamatan keterlaksanaan pembelajaran dengan skor  dan pengisisan angket respon siswa dengan skor . Keefektifan produk ditunjukkan oleh nilai tes evaluasi 85% siswa yang menggunakan LKS lebih dari nilai standar ketuntasan minimum.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to describe student errors that experience split attention in solving SPLDV problems. The subject of this study were two eighth grade students in SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Malang who experienced split attention. The instrument used in this research was a mathematical problem consisting of one SPLDV problem. The results of this research show that students who experienced split attention made factual errors and procedural errors in solving SPLDV problems. Factual errors made by students is that they cannot define the x and y variables they have made. Procedural errors is not being able to determine the resolution steps for the SPLDV problem. In addition, students also cannot use the addition operation correctly. The most common error is procedure error.Abstrak: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mendeskripsikan kesalahan siswa yang mengalami split attention dalam menyelesaikan masalah SPLDV. Subjek penelitian ini adalah dua siswa kelas VIII SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Malang yang mengalami split attention. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah masalah matematika yang terdiri dari satu soal SPLDV. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa yang mengalami split attention melakukan kesalahan fakta dan kesalahan prosedur dalam menyelesaikan masalah yang SPLDV. Kesalahan fakta yang dilakukan siswa adalah tidak dapat mendefinisikan variabel x dan y yang telah dibuatnya. Kesalahan prosedur yang dilakukan adalah tidak dapat menentukan langkah-langkah penyelesaian untuk masalah SPLDV.  Selain itu, siswa juga tidak dapat menggunakan operasi penjumlahan dengan tepat. Kesalahan yang paling banyak dilakukan adalah kesalahan prosedur.
