Abstract

The family plays a crucial role in stunting prevention, serving as valuable educators in child development. This study aims to understand the role of family participation in the growth and development of children and adolescents as caregiving education for stunting prevention. The research was conducted in Timbulharjo, Sewon, Bantul, Yogyakarta, from August to September 2023, employing a cross-sectional method. The study population includes parents with children up to 13 years old, using accidental sampling for participant selection. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate methods. The results showed that 76.2% of families have above-average knowledge of stunting prevention efforts. Additionally, 59.5% of families demonstrated a positive attitude, and 64.3% had a positive intention towards stunting prevention. The p-value for the variables of employment status and the number of children concerning the knowledge, attitude, and intention of families in stunting prevention was above 0.05. The conclusion is that the majority of families have positive knowledge, attitudes, and intentions regarding stunting prevention. The findings also indicate no significant influence from educational level, employment status, or number of children on the knowledge, attitudes, and intentions of families in stunting prevention. The study suggests the need for enhanced promotional activities for stunting prevention at the family level, involving various relevant stakeholders. The community should also improve their quality by actively participating in activities organized by the village to prevent stunting.

Abstract

Reproductive health is an essential aspect of child development, yet it is often considered a taboo topic within families. This community service initiative was conducted to strengthen the role of parents in delivering reproductive health education to children at SD Negeri Banteran I, Sleman. The program employed a combination of health education sessions, educational video screenings, interactive discussions, educational games, and knowledge assessments. The target participants were parents of fourth- and fifth-grade students, aiming to enhance their understanding, confidence, and ability to communicate age-appropriate reproductive health information to their children. The results showed a significant improvement in parents’ knowledge, as reflected in the evaluation scores, where participants were able to correctly answer questions they previously misunderstood. Parents also reported feeling more prepared, open, and comfortable discussing reproductive health topics at home. The school responded positively and expressed the importance of continuing similar programs. Overall, this activity demonstrates that a parenting-based educational approach is effective in strengthening family capacity as a key foundation for nurturing a healthy and well-informed younger generation.

Abstract

Vocational electronics education requires learners to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical experience, yet traditional teacher-centered instruction often limits autonomy, collaboration, and meaningful engagement, forming the background of this study. The purpose of the study is to examine how peer-to-peer learning can operationalize andragogical and heutagogical principles in electronics practicum activities. This research employed a case study at a vocational high school in Yogyakarta involving twenty-one electronics teachers and five hundred and four students, with data collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and analysis of project documentation across six practicum sessions as the primary methods. The results show that peerogy facilitates active knowledge sharing, collaborative problem-solving, and reflective practice, supporting the andragogical focus on experience-based and problem-centered learning, while students also demonstrated heutagogical traits such as setting self-determined goals, making independent decisions during practicum work, and evaluating their outcomes autonomously. The conclusions indicate that integrating peerogy with andragogy and heutagogy enhances learner autonomy, critical reflection, and collaborative competence, offering an effective instructional framework for cultivating adaptive, self-directed learners required in the current digital and industrial era.

Abstract

The growth and development of toddlers are crucial in determining the welfare of a nation, as this period serves as the foundation for a healthy and productive future generation. Nutritional deficiencies in the early years of life can lead to stunting, which not only hinders a child's physical growth but also negatively impacts their learning abilities and immune system in the future. Addressing nutritional issues is essential by increasing mothers' knowledge. This activity aims to evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition education on balanced nutrition in preventing malnutrition in children at Posyandu Ngireng-ngireng, Kalurahan Panggungharjo. The education program was conducted using a lecture and Q&A method, supported by PowerPoint presentations displayed via LCD. The pre-test and post-test results showed a significant increase in participants' knowledge, with the average score rising from 54.38 to 71.56. These results indicate that the lecture method, supported by visual media and interactive Q&A sessions, effectively enhances mothers' understanding of the importance of balanced nutrition. Therefore, this approach can be adopted in other health education programs to improve community knowledge about nutrition and child health
