Abstract

Penelitian ini, gliserol kasar (crude glycerol) diperoleh dari produk samping produksibiodiesel berupa larutan kental yang berwarna coklat kekuningan dengan pH mendekati netral.Kondisi awal kemurnian crude glycerol termasuk cukup tinggi (~80%), namun untuk mendapatkangliserol dengan standart komersial kemurnian tinggi (>90%), masih diperlukan penghilangansenyawa pengotor seperti garam-garam inorganik, methanol dan air. Untuk tujuan menghasilkanpemurnian gliserol dengan standar komersial, kandungan pengotor dipisahkan dengan kombinasiproses adsorpsi dengan karbon aktif, dilanjutkan penyaringan menggunakan membran danpemisahan methanol dan air dengan menggunakan rotary evaporator. Selain itu dipelajari pengaruhvariabel-variabel proses adsorpsi (jenis adsorben dengan tingkat kemurnian teknis dan p.a ,konsentrasi adsorben dan waktu adsorpsi) terhadap kadar kemurnian gliserol yang dihasilkan.Karakterisasi gliserol meliputi analisa kadar gliserol total, densitas, viskositas, dan gugus fungsimenggunakan FTIR. Gliserol hasil pemurnian tidak berwarna (bening) dengan kadar kemurnianmaksimum 92,81%, viskositas 152,48cp dan densitas 1,254g/cm3 mendekati standart kemurniangliserol komersial. Abstract

Background: A biomaterial used in oral cavity should not become toxic, irritant, carcinogenic, and allergenic. Chitosan represents a new biomaterial in dentistry. Purpose: To examine the toxicity of chitosan from tiger prawn shell waste on cell culture with MTT assay. Methods: Chitosan with concentration of 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75% and 1% was used in this experiment. Each sample was immersed on eppendorf microtubes containing media culture. After 24 hours, the immersion of media culture was used to examine the toxicity effects on BHK-21 cell based on MTT assay method. The density of optic formazan indicates the number of living cells. All data were then statistically analyzed by one-way Anava. Results: The number of living cells in chitosan from tiger prawn shell waste was 93.16%; 85.07%; 78.48%; 75.66%. Thus, there was no significant difference among groups. Conclusion: Chitosan with 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75% and 1% concentrations from tiger prawn shell waste were not toxic for BHK-21 cell culture when using parameter CD50.

Abstract

AbstrakKemampuan kitosan sebagai bahan yang mampu menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri sehingga dapat digunakan sebagai bahan coating pada lembaran nata de coco dan diaplikasikan sebagai bahan perban antibakteri. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh derajat deasetilisasi terhadap kemampuan antibakteri sebagai bahan perban antibakteri. Kitosan dilarutkan dalam asam asetat 2% kemudian dilapiskan (coating) pada lembaran kering nata de coco dan didiamkan pada suhu kamar hingga kering. Derajat deasetilasi dihitung dengan menggunakan metode baseline dan diperoleh nilai derajat deasetilasi kitin dan kitosan masing-masing, adalah 81,52%; 77,87%; dan 77% sedangkan derajat deasetilasi masing-masing kitin adalah 58,34%; 55,76%; dan 62,10%. Derajat deasetilisasi 81,52% memiliki kemampuan antibakteri paling baik dibandingkan derajat deasetilisasi 77,87% dan 77%. Pengujian antibakteri dengan E.coli dan S. aureus menggunakan metode difusi agar, menunjukkan uji positif sebagai antibakteri dengan adanya zona bening disekitar sampel nata de coco-kitosan masing-masing diameter zona bening sebesar 1.17 cm pada E.coli dan 1,27 cm pada S.aureus.

Abstract

Community empowerment and household waste processing are two issues that need to be resolved by the government. An independent and educated society is an important pillar to support the development of country. Meanwhile, waste that continues to accumulate without processing has a negative impact on health and the environment. Public education about household waste processing can be a solution to the two problems above. Education was carried out at Junior High School YBPK Surabaya and residents of Dukuh Kupang Surabaya, and other participants who joined in a hibrid meeting with a total of 116 participants. Activities at YBPK Surabaya took place on 25 March and 5 August 2023 and activities at Dukuh Kupang Surabaya took place on 27 May and 26 August 2023. The types of waste processed are organic waste and used cooking oil, which are then converted into eco-enzymes and used cooking oil Activities are divided into 2 stages. there are community education activities and program sustainability monitoring activities. The community education activities includes presentation and workshop were hold in March 2023 at YBPK Surabaya Middle School and May 2023 at Dukuh Kupang Surabaya. The evaluation of sustainability program including individual practice and monitoring of activities was carried out in August 2023 at Dukuh Kupang Surabaya. Methods for implementing activities include presentation, practice accompanied by a mentor, individual practice, and monitoring program sustainability. Based on the analysis of participants' ability, the participant scores before and after the activity was increase. It means that this training succeeded in increasing participants' knowledge and skills in processing waste, especially organic waste and used cooking oil waste. A total of 72 out of 116 participants (62%) had processed household waste either individually or in groups. Activity evaluation data shows that these activities are necessary and on target to create an independent and creative society.

Abstract

Pembuatan tisu pada penelitian ini menggunakan serat dari jerami padi sebagai sumber selulosa, dimana dilakukan proses penghilangan lignin dua tahap dengan cara melakukan pemasakan serat jerami padi dengan proses soda menggunakan konsentrasi larutan NaOH 4%-10%, pada suhu 60°C-90°C selama waktu (1-1,5) jam. Tisu hasil delignifikasi dianalisa untuk mendapatkan pengaruh variabel kondisi proses delignifikasi terhadap komposisi kimia (selulosa dan lignin) dan sifat fisik tisu yang dihasilkan, antara lain meliputi kekuatan tarik, daya serap air, dan kemudahan hancur. Selain itu, tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mendapatkan kondisi optimum proses delignifikasi terhadap komposisi kimia dan sifat fisik tisu yang dihasilkan. Hasil percobaan menunjukkan semakin tinggi konsentrasi dan suhu delignifikasi akan meningkatkan kandungan selulosa dan menurunkan kandungan lignin. Kandungan selulosa tertinggi adalah 76,20%, kandungan lignin terendah adalah 0,39%, ketahanan tarik tertinggi adalah 3,034 N/mm2 , daya serap air tertinggi adalah 118 mm. Abstract

The coastal community of Sine Beach, Kalibatur Village, Tulungagung, Indonesia, has long thrived on fishing activities. In response to this, a community development service explores the alternative utilization of coconut, particularly the production of Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO), as a means of economic diversification. By integrating scientific principles with local traditions, the community learned to extract VCO and create various coconut-based products. This initiative not only broadened economic horizons but also fostered environmental sustainability. The programs aims to give economic impact to residents in Pantai Sine Tulungagung.
