Abstract

Chemistry learning media play a role in helping students understand chemistry concepts. There are many choices of learning media used in chemistry, such as films. However, films are not widely used as learning media, one of which is Korean films. This study aims to identify chemistry content that appears in drama scenes and determine the relevance of this content to chemistry material in senior high school. The analysis process refers to Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic technique through three stages, namely sign, object, and interpretant. The validity of the findings was tested through investigator triangulation involving experts in the fields of Chemistry Education and Indonesian Language and Literature Education. The results of the inter-observer agreement coefficient calculation showed an average value of 1, which is classified as very good. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that there is a representation of chemistry concepts in the Korean drama The First Responders. The chemistry concepts represented are related to high school chemistry subject matter. This research can be used as an alternative medium in chemistry learning. Scenes in the film can be used as sparking questions, initial problems in learning activities.

DEVELOPMENT OF SETS-BASED CHEMISTRY LEARNING E-MODULES (SCIENCE, ENVIRONMENT, TECHNOLOGY, SOCIETY) ON COLLIGATIVE PROPERTIES OF SOLUTIONSAbstractThis study aims to produce an e-module for learning chemistry based on SETS (Science, Environment, Technology, Society) on the colligative properties of solutions, and to find out students' responses to the e-module. This study uses a 4-D model (define, design, development, and disseminate) which is limited only to the development stage. The instruments used in this research are needs analysis questionnaire, student analysis questionnaire, module content validation sheet, and student response questionnaire sheet. The validation of the content of the module was carried out by 2 instructional review experts and 1 practitioner. Based on the validator's assessment, a valid and worthy module was produced to be tested. The e-module trial phase was carried out on 35 students of class XII MIPA at SMAN 4, South Tangerang City. Based on the student response questionnaire, obtained a percentage of 82.5% in the SETS-based learning aspect which is included in the very good category. Overall, there was a positive response to the developed e-module with an average percentage of 82.93% which was included in the very good category and was suitable for use as a medium and source of learning in the learning process.

Abstract

Teaching materials are a source of learning for students. For this reason, efforts are needed to develop teaching materials that accommodate the needs of students in terms of ease of access, attractive presentation, and encouraging student activity. This research focuses on the development of electronic booklets (e-booklets) using the "problem-based learning (PBL)" model on acid-base materials. Research and Development (R&D) with the 4-D model consisting of define, design, and develop was used as this research method, but dissemination stages were not conducted because of limited research time. 34 purposively selected students of SMAN 21 Bekasi City were given a questionnaire to determine the need for e-booklet development at the define stage. Meanwhile, the questionnaire that had been developed at the development stage was validated by 4 experts. After the instrument was deemed feasible, the e-booklet was tested on 34 purposively selected students. The research findings showed that the percentage of the results of the trial of teaching materials to students was 81.53% with very good criteria. This study concludes that the teaching materials developed are suitable for use as a learning resource for students in solving problems on acid-base materials.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills are still a problem in chemistry learning. One of the causes is teaching strategies do not contextually link chemical concepts into everyday life. This study aimed to determine whether project-based ethno-chemistry learning affected students' critical thinking skills. The research method used a quasi-experimental with a nonequivalent control group design. Purposive sampling was conducted and resulted a sample size of 80 students, consisting of 40 students from class XI IPA 1 (Experimental group) and 40 students from class XI IPA 2 (Control group). The critical thinking test instrument consisting of 19 questions in the topic of colloid material. The results of Mann Whitney test showed a significant difference of critical thinking post-test score between the two groups (p = 0.000, p < 0.05). Thus, it can be concluded that project-based ethno-chemistry learning had an effect on students' critical thinking skills development. According to the n-gain score (57%), project-based ethno-chemistry learning was considered quite effective to develop students' critical thinking skills. The findings of this study contributed to the selection of various innovative teaching strategies which integrates local wisdom into project-based chemistry learning, so that critical thinking skills can be improved.
