Abstract

Abstract

Democracy is a system of government used by many countries in the world today, including Indonesia. Higher education institutions serve as a microcosm of state life. As a consequence of a democratic state, Indonesia requires a society that is aware of the importance of political participation. Similarly, campuses also need students who recognize the significance of political participation within the campus. This study employs a qualitative method. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and literature review. The political participation of students from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education in the campus election (Pemira) is relatively low, attributed to various internal and external factors. From a citizenship perspective, students should ideally have a high level of political participation in the Pemira, as it reflects the implementation of three citizenship competencies: civic knowledge, civic skills, and civic disposition. In response to the phenomenon of low political participation among students of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, improvements to the Pemira system are necessary for the future. Furthermore, to enhance students' political participation, it is recommended to implement comprehensive and sustainable strategies

Abstract

Radicalism is an ideology that demands drastic change, even violence, and in the context of religion, it is often manifested through intolerance and exclusivity. This research aims to examine the representation of radicalism in the series of Heresy, its relevance to the divine values of Pancasila and its implications for students. The method used is qualitative descriptive with content analysis, through non-participatory observation, literature review, and interviews. The results of the study show that radicalism is represented through narratives, dialogues, and visuals that depict the indoctrination and legitimacy of violence in the name of religion. The divine values of Pancasila function as a counter-narrative, emphasizing tolerance, moderation, and respect for diversity. Interviews with students reveal a critical awareness of the dangers of radicalism, although some consider the representation in the series to be stereotypical. These findings emphasize the importance of media literacy and religious literacy as civic education strategies to fight radicalism and strengthen students' national character

Abstract

TikTok, as a short-video-based social media platform, has become an important space for the dissemination of political issues among university students. This study aims to explore the patterns of political issue dissemination through TikTok and its influence on the political attitudes of students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, six informants were selected through purposive sampling and interviewed semi-structurally, with data analyzed using Braun and Clarke"™s thematic analysis method. The findings reveal that the For You Page algorithm reinforces exposure to specific issues, shapes students"™ political agenda, enhances political awareness and engagement, but also generates risks of polarization, confirmation bias, and disinformation. This study concludes that TikTok plays a dual role as a medium of informal political education and, at the same time, a platform vulnerable to algorithmic filter bubble effects

Abstract

This study is motivated by the growing influence of social media X in shaping students' civic participation patterns in the digital democracy era. The main problem lies in how students understand the meaning of civic participation, the forms of digital participation they engage in and their perceptions of digital ethics in such involvement. The purpose of this research is to analyze in depth students' understanding, participation practices, and ethical considerations in using X as a digital public sphere. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected through in-depth interviews, digital observation, and documentation of online content. The findings reveal that students perceive civic participation not only as formal involvement such as elections, but also through discussions, critiques, and digital campaigns. The forms of participation vary from passive actions such as likes and retweets to more creative expressions such as threads, infographics, and hashtag campaigns. Nevertheless, these practices face challenges such as slacktivism, polarization, and regulatory risks associated with Indonesia's ITE Law. These findings highlight the urgent need to strengthen critical digital literacy, foster ethical media practices, and internalize democratic values in civic education, ensuring that students are not only digitally active but also capable of substantive, ethical, and responsible participation in digital democracy
