Abstract

Hand sanitizer gel is one of the alternative methods for hand hygiene when soap and water are not available. Binahong leaf (Anredera cordifolia) is a natural herb that has phenolic, flavonoids, saponins, and the steroid-terpenoids compound, which is potentially used as the active ingredient in the hand sanitizer gel. The primary purpose of this research was to determine the antibacterial potential and physicochemical properties of a hand-sanitizer gel containing binahong leaves’ infusion against Staphylococcus aureus. The efficacy of this formulation was tested against a bacterial strain using the disc diffusion method and determined by measuring the inhibition zone of each preparation. The testing of physicochemical properties includes the organoleptic test, pH, viscosity, and gel spreadability. The physicochemical characteristics of the gel showed excellent properties for all formulas. The antibacterial test showed that hand sanitizer gel containing an infusion of binahong’s leaves has an inhibition zone (6.02 mm; 6.24 mm; 6.55 mm), almost close to a positive control (9.15 mm). In conclusion, the formulated hand sanitizer gel possesses the antibacterial potential to inhibit S. aureus.

Abstract

Background: One of the vital variables affecting the stability and the characteristics of the Nanostructured Lipid Carrier (NLC) is the surfactant concentration. Using the two combinations of surfactants can cause higher stability and a better characteristic of NLC. Tween 80 and Span 20 are anionic surfactants whose combination has not been studied for use in NLC systems. Objective: Determine the effect of different surfactant ratios of Tween 80 and Span 20 on the physicochemical characteristics, stability, and irritability of NLC using the High Shear Homogenization (HSH) method. Methods: Four different surfactant ratios were used in the NLC formulation, in which the ratio of Tween 80:Span 20 were 5:5, 6:6, 7:7, and 8:8, respectively. In this NLC system, cetyl palmitate served as solid lipid, medium-chain triglyceride (CrodamolTM) as liquid lipid, Tween 80, and Span 20 as surfactant components. NLC was characterized for organoleptic, viscosity, pH, zeta potential, particle morphology, particle size, and polydispersity index (PDI), then evaluated for stability using the real-time and freeze-thaw method, and irritability effect. Results: The different ratios of Tween 80 and Span 20 had no significant effect on the particle size, PI, and irritation score of the NLC system. On the other hand, it influenced all formulas' pH value, viscosity, zeta potential, and stability. Conclusions: The different ratios of surfactant combination affect the characteristics and stability of the NLC system.

Abstract

Jerawat merupakan gangguan pada folikel pilosebasea yang banyak ditemukan pada remaja. Spesies mikroba yang terlibat dalam patogenesis jerawat adalah Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus aureus, dan Staphylococcus epidermidis. Daun kemangi (Ocimum sanctum) merupakan salah satu tanaman yang memiliki aktivitas antibakteri dan dapat diformulasikan dalam sediaan masker peel-off. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan dan mengevaluasi masker peel-off yang dibuat dari ekstrak daun kemangi (Ocimum sanctum) yang memiliki aktivitas antibakteri. Ekstrak daun kemangi diperoleh dengan cara maserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%. Ekstrak kemudian diformulasikan menjadi masker peel-off dengan variasi konsentrasi 6%, 8%, 10%. Dilakukan pengujian terhadap sifat fisikokimia seperti organoleptis, homogenitas, nilai pH, viskositas, daya sebar, dan waktu pengeringan, sedangkan uji aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan dengan metode difusi sumuran. Diameter zona hambat pada uji antibakteri terbesar adalah pada konsentrasi ekstrak 10% dengan diameter zona hambat 23,13mm ± 1,82 terhadap Propionibacterium acne, 11,62mm ± 0,27 terhadap Staphylococcus aureus, dan 21,21mm ± 1,72 terhadap Staphylococcus epidermidis. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa masker peel off ekstrak daun kemangi paling efektif terhadap Propionibacterium acne yang termasuk dalam kategori efek antibakteri kuat. Abstract

Training has been held on the formulation of goat milk solid soap to the community. The partners of this activity are a group of fresh Ettawa goat milk producing communities who live in the village of Torongrejo, Klerek, Batu city. The training process for goat milk solid soap formulation begins with a lecture on solid soap formulation, then proceed with a workshop on making goat milk solid soap. The achievement of this activity is an increase in knowledge as well as the skills of the Partners regarding the formulation and manufacture of goat milk solid soap.

Abstract

Goat's milk is rich in nutrients, especially vitamin A and lactic acid which are very beneficial for skin health, so it is suitable for liquid bath soap ingredients. However, well-known manufacturing takes a long time to make. Implemented training to producers of fresh goat's milk is formulating liquid soap made from fresh goat's milk that a simple method and quickly. The result of this activity is an increase in the knowledge and skills of participants so that they can enrich the variety of products based on fresh goat milk. It is hoped that with the increasing variety of goat milk products that they offer, there will be an increase in the economy of participants.

Abstract

The kefir of goat's milk has good benefits for skin health. There are goat milk kefir creams on the market, but tutorials to make cream of goat's milk kefir are not available on social media, even though it useful by the goat milk producer who wants to develop product variations. Training for goat's milk kefir cream formulation had done, partner of this activity is a goat milk producing community. This activity begins with a theoretical and technical explanation of the making of goat's milk kefir cream then continues with training activities, and video tutorials were uploaded to social media, too. It has been an increase in the knowledge and skills of the Partners. This activity is an inspiration for Partners to add product variants, especially making kefir cream.

Abstract

Covid-19 telah menjadi pandemic yang telah menyebar ke seluruh penjuru dunia. Jombang merupakan salah satu daerah yang berada di Jawa Timur yang terdampak dengan total kasus terkonfirmasi positif sebanyak 4.695 kasus (pada bulan April 2021). Pemerintah telah melakukan upaya sosialisasi terkait protokol kesehatan sebagai upaya pengendalian penyebaran virus Covid-19. Berdasarkan hal tersebut, kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman akan pentingnya penerapan protokol kesehatan dalam menjalankan kegiatan di masa pandemi ini. Kegiatan yang dilakukan adalah sosialisasi mengenai protokol kesehatan (menggunakan masker, menjaga jarak fisik, dan mencuci tangan atau menggunakan hand sanitizer) serta edukasi pembuatan hand sanitizer yang dilakukan di kedai kopi “Hustle” Jombang. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat dalam menerapkan protokol kesehatan sehingga dapat membantu dalam mengendalikan penyebaran virus Covid-19 di Indonesia, khususnya di wilayah Jombang.

Abstract

Kulit jeruk (Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck) merupakan limbah organik yang merupakan sumber antioksidan polifenol yang baik dan berpotensi sebagai tabir surya. Bahan ini mengandung senyawa yang dapat melindungi kulit dari efek radiasi ultraviolet. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan dan mengetahui aktivitas antioksidan dan nilai Sun Protecting Factor (SPF) ekstrak kulit jeruk pada sediaan nanogel. Ekstrak kulit jeruk diperoleh dengan cara maserasi menggunakan etanol 96% kemudian diformulasikan menjadi nanogel dengan variasi konsentrasi 1%, 3%, dan 5%. Dilakukan pengujian sifat fisikokimia, seperti ukuran partikel, indeks polidispersitas (PDI), potensial zeta, organoleptik, homogenitas, pH, dan viskositas. Selanjutnya dilakukan uji aktivitas antioksidan menggunakan metode DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl), dan proteksi UV (Ultraviolet) ditentukan berdasarkan penentuan nilai SPF yang dilakukan pada panjang gelombang 290-320 nm dengan interval 5nm. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sediaan dengan konsentrasi ekstrak 1%, 3%, dan 5% memiliki ukuran partikel berturut-turut 303,63 nm ± 6,22; 404,53 nm ± 14,48; 261,75 nm ± 31,47. Aktivitas antioksidan dari sediaan ditentukan dengan nilai persen penghambatan, yaitu, 34,78%±11,35; 39,72%±6,73; dan 55,07%±7,90; sedangkan untuk nilai SPF didapatkan masing-masing formula adalah 14,94; 17,30; dan 18,75. Berdasarkan hasil yang diperoleh dapat disimpulkan bahwa sediaan nanogel ekstrak kulit jeruk termasuk dalam perlindungan tabir surya pada kategori sedang.

Abstract

Melanin is a pigment contains in human skin which role as a UV-absorbing agent. One of the exogenous melanins can be obtained from squid (Loligo sp.) ink. Squid ink melanin has potent free radical protection activities. This study aimed to determine the physicochemical, stability, antioxidant, and UV protection activities of squid ink powder lotions. Squid ink powders were obtained from the drying process using HCl 0.5M and stored in the climatic chamber. Antioxidant activity was conducted quantitatively using the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazil) scavenging method. The best result of the DPPH scavenging activity was 29.12±0.023%, shown from formula III. UV protection activity was conducted by observing erythema scores in animal skin, which exposure to UV. This preparation inhibits the effect of UV exposure. Squid ink powder lotions are potential as a sunscreen product.
