Abstract

Abstract

Technological developments, particularly in the Industry 4.0 era, accompanied by increasing technological literacy among the public, have influenced business operations, making them easier to develop and more widely known. Digital transformation innovations in facility services at the Politeknik Penerbangan Surabaya were carried out to improve administrative efficiency, information, and service speed. This study aims to develop a web-based facility service information system with the Laravel framework and online payments using the Midtrans payment gateway that can be accessed by internal and external users of the institution more easily and transparently. The development of this system uses the Waterfall Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) method. The results of the study show that this system is able to manage facility data, transactions, availability, and transaction history in an integrated and real-time manner. The integration of Midtrans into the system not only makes transactions fast and secure, but also provides convenience and security protection for customers. The implementation of this system has been proven to increase efficiency, speed up the service process, minimize recording errors, while expanding service access for users from outside the institution easily and effectively. In addition, with the institution's digital development system, strategic decision-making has also become easier

Abstract

Wildlife strikes remain a persistent safety risk for airport operators because birds and terrestrial animals can damage aircraft, disrupt schedules, and threaten passengers and crews. In Indonesia, the issue is particularly important because airports operate in diverse ecological settings, including coastal zones, forest edges, wetlands, agricultural areas, settlements, and rapidly urbanizing airport vicinities. This study evaluates the implementation of Wildlife Hazard Management (WHM) at Indonesian airports by synthesizing published airport evidence and comparing reported practices with ICAO standards and Indonesian aerodrome regulations. A qualitative documentary review and structured gap analysis were conducted using ICAO Annex 14, ICAO Doc 9137 Part 3, ICAO Safety Management System principles, Indonesian CASR Part 139-related regulations, and empirical studies from several Indonesian airports. The analysis was organized around eight WHM components: wildlife assessment, habitat and attractant control, patrol and surveillance, reporting and risk assessment, equipment and technology, personnel competence, emergency preparedness, and off-airport stakeholder coordination. The findings show that Indonesian airports have generally adopted core WHM practices, including patrols, reporting, grass cutting, perimeter control, and deterrent equipment. However, implementation remains uneven. Key gaps include limited species-specific and seasonal risk assessment, incomplete evidence on reporting quality, insufficient recurrent training and simulation, suboptimal placement and maintenance of deterrent equipment, and weak documentation of off-airport coordination within the 13 km wildlife-risk area. The study contributes a comparative policy-implementation framework for strengthening WHM as part of airport Safety Management Systems in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study investigated the effects of a 12-week explicit metacognitive listening intervention on self-regulated learning (SRL), foreign language enjoyment (FLE), and radiotelephony listening performance among 100 second-year aviation cadets at Surabaya Aviation Polytechnic, Indonesia. Using a one-group pre-test/post-test quasi-experimental design, the intervention was fully integrated into the regular Aviation English curriculum and employed authentic radiotelephony materials (LiveATC.net recordings and Mayday simulations) following Vandergrift and Goh’s (2021) pedagogical cycle. Data were collected before and after the intervention via the Metacognitive Awareness Listening Questionnaire (MALQ), Self-Regulated Online Learning Questionnaire–Short Form, a short-form FLE scale, and an ICAO-aligned 30-item listening test. Paired-samples t-tests revealed significant improvements (all ps < .001) with medium-to-large effects on SRL (d = 0.68), large effects on listening performance (d = 0.87), and very large effects on FLE (d = 1.84). The findings provide the first empirical evidence that process-oriented metacognitive instruction can simultaneously enhance cognitive, behavioral, and affective outcomes in safety-critical aviation English contexts and offer direct, low-cost support for ICAO’s latest training recommendations.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze students' conceptual understanding of the "Aviation Security" (AVSEC) course, focusing on the topic of Perimeter Intruder Detection System (PIDS) using the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) approach. This study uses a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test approaches to evaluate the effectiveness of STEM approaches in improving students' conceptual understanding. A total of 25 cadets from the MTU study program, Surabaya Aviation Polytechnic, became the subject of the research. The instruments used include conceptual comprehension tests, observation sheets, questionnaires, and in-depth interviews. The results of the Paired Sample T-Test showed a significant increase in student understanding after the application of STEM methods. The average difference between the pre-test and post-test was -17.750, with a standard deviation of 4.665 and a significance level of 0.000, indicating a significant increase in understanding. The 95% confidence interval for the mean difference is between -19,720 and -15,780. The PIDS system was developed using the Research and Development (R&D) method, while hardware and software development followed the Waterfall approach. The results of this research make an important contribution to the development of STEM-based learning methods in aviation safety, particularly regarding PIDS.
