Abstract

ATS route is a special route designed to facilitate the flow of air traffic as required in the provision of air traffic control services. However, at Pangkalan Bun there are still flight paths that use direct instructions, one of which is the scheduled flight path to Ahmad Yani Airport Semarang which uses the SUMDI direct point instruction, even though the number of scheduled flights to and from Ahmad Yani Airport Semarang via SUMDI points is the most congested air route with 10 scheduled flights per day out of a total of 30 scheduled flights at Iskandar Airport. This study aims to provide input regarding the need for the Pangkalan Bun ATS route to Semarang and Surabaya in order to optimize the provision of air traffic services in the Pangkalan Bun Control Zone (CTR) and Terminal Control Area (TMA). The research method used in this research is descriptive qualitative using data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observations and literature studies. The source of data and research was obtained from Perum AirNav Indonesia LPPNPI KCP Pangkalan Bun, and addressed to ATC personnel stored at Perum AirNav LPPNPI KCP Pangkalan Bun. The results showed that the ATS route between Pangkalan Bun, Surabaya and Semarang often conflicted, so the ATS route was needed to facilitate flight traffic guides in providing services so that flight traffic services at CTR and TMA Pangkalan Bun could be more optimal.

Abstract

This study examines how Generative AI tools, specifically ChatGPT and Gemini, can enhance English for Specific Purposes (ESP) learning and education. Drawing on the UTAUT2 model of technology acceptance and recent discussions on AI-mediated learning, we examine the roles of baseline ability, perceived usefulness, and satisfaction as mediating factors in ESP classrooms. Data were collected from 50 vocational students across five departments using pre- and post-tests, AI usage logs, and Likert-scale surveys. Statistical analyses included descriptive statistics, paired t-tests, ANOVA with Tukey adjustment, correlation, reliability tests, and predictive modeling (OLS and LASSO) in SAS Studio. Results show a mean learning gain of 24.42 points, with Nursing and IT students benefiting most. AI usage hours strongly correlate with post-test scores but not directly with learning gain, suggesting that perceived usefulness and satisfaction (both rated 4.4/5 with ? = 1.00) mediate the outcomes. Baseline competence remains the strongest predictor, highlighting persistent disparities in skill distribution across vocational fields. These findings suggest that the effective integration of Generative AI in ESP requires scaffolding and domain-specific alignment, rather than simple exposure. The study offers a novel framework for AI-supported ESP instruction, providing practical guidance for educators and policymakers in Indonesia and similar contexts.

Abstract

English for Specific Purposes (ESP) plays a crucial role in preparing aviation cadets to comprehend technical documents and operate safely in global contexts. This study explores how perceived task characteristics—task relevance, benefit, and challenge—affect cadets' motivation in ESP reading tasks. Utilizing a quantitative-confirmatory design, data were collected from 95 cadets and analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The findings indicate that among the three constructs, only task challenge significantly predicted cadet motivation and confidence in reading. Task relevance and benefit, while positively perceived, did not produce statistically significant effects. The results highlight the central role of task difficulty in fostering engagement and persistence among cadets. The validated model underscores the importance of designing reading tasks that are optimally challenging to enhance motivation in high-stakes educational environments. This study provides empirical grounding for curriculum innovation in aviation English and contributes to the theoretical understanding of motivational dynamics in ESP contexts.
