Abstract

The Kanjuruhan Stadium tragedy on 1 October 2022 became the second deadliest in the history of football. Leaders of many countries sent condolence letters to Joko Widodo, the President of Indonesia. The National Commission on Human Rights commissioner stated that the Kanjuruhan tragedy was a human rights case. The tragedy led to the rise of social movement and digital activism (DMO) through the hashtags #KanjuruhanDisaster #UsutTuntas #PrayforKanjuruhan and #Aremania. This study explains the social network formed by the aforementioned hashtags, the actors involved, and sentiment analysis. The data set crawled using Netlytic.org found 9,944 DMO tweets using the hashtags out of 10,000 tweets. The results of this study prove that DMO on the Kanjuruhan tragedy through the hashtag #KanjuruhanDisaster #UsutTuntas #PrayforKanjuruhan #Aremania has a high number of neutral sentiments indicating that the netizen is still in the phase of mourning and using neutral language to sarcast the authority. The network property data show that there is no feedback and explanation form the authority to reduce the tension of netizens. Low centralization rate between actors shows that digital activism occurs organically and is not controlled by a particular actor or organization.

Abstract

The 2024 election will elect a new president after Jokowi served for two terms. In the 2024 election, the Nasdem and PKB parties are nominating the pair Anies Baswedan - Muhaimin Iskandar as candidates for President and Vice President. The candidacy of AMIN's running mate invited debate. This research analyzes netizen reactions in comments on the content of recorded YouTube broadcasts of four Indonesian news channels - TvOneNews, MerdekaDotCom, METRO TV, and KOMPASTV - on the live broadcast of the declaration of Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar as 2024 presidential candidates. The focus of this research data is using comments in the first 24 hours after declaration of couple Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar. This research uses thematic analysis and reveals four main themes from the comment analysis are: supporters of other politicians, uninspiring politicians, established politicians, and national pride, which reflects a variety of perspectives. Anonymity on YouTube allows for the explicit expression of opinions, emotions, and socio-political affiliations. This highlights the participatory nature of social media in facilitating political discussions. However, increasing interactivity does not necessarily result in quality discussions. Further analysis of the substance of comments is needed to examine the qualities that shape online political discourse in Indonesia. This study provides an initial mapping of reactions for future researchers to build using sentiment or network analysis. The results of this research also underline the importance of understanding public discourse in a political context considering the widespread use of social media as a campaign tool.

Abstract

Indonesia is on the path of the Bean Belt, which is an area suitable for the development of coffee trees. This makes Indonesia the fourth largest coffee producing country in the world with a production value of up to 12 million 60-kilo sacks by the end of 2020. Malang Regency, East Java, is one of the largest coffee bean producing regions in Indonesia. Squirrel coffee is a variant of coffee that comes from the rest of the coffee cherries consumed by squirrels. This process provides a distinctive taste and aroma for coffee lovers. The uniqueness of Bajing coffee has not been exploited by coffee farmers and Pamanjur. Even consumers are more likely to choose Arabica coffee than squirrel coffee, because they feel that the taste does not have a significant difference. As a result, the price of squirrel coffee is still unable to reach its full potential. The UMM Service Team assisted Girimoyo and Pamanjur Villages to Compile Product Value and packaging to increase the selling value of Bajing Coffee. Several steps were taken by the team to develop a program to strengthen the value of coffee squirrels in Girimoyo Village, including: holding a meeting with the owner of Pamanjur to obtain initial data, then the team tried to understand the flavor profile of coffee squirrels by conducting a taste test, then developing a program to strengthen the value of coffee squirrels through design. packaging, by changing the name of Bajing coffee to Belka coffee. The term "Belka" comes from the Russian language which is the name for the animal "Squirrel". After the concept matured, the team worked on a prototype of the Bajing coffee packaging. The final stage is the finalization and printing process carried out by Pamanjur. In conclusion, by taking advantage of the unique characteristics of Kopi Bajing and implementing an effective packaging design, Girimoyo Village can maximize the market potential of its specialty coffee.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the reception of sexual communication messages within the context of marital relationships in the Durex "Unequal Dinner" advertisement series. The method employed in this study is qualitative-descriptive, utilising Stuart Hall's Encoding-Decoding Theory to understand the reception by the subjects. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with four married female subjects born between 1981 and 1996 from the millennial generation. They reside in East Java, Indonesia, have been married for less than 10 years, and are parents. The research highlights differences in the reception of the subjects, stemming from their diverse experiences and backgrounds. Factors such as geographical distance, societal culture, and sexual education influence how they receive the sexual communication messages presented in the advertisement. Simultaneously, a dominant-hegemonic narrative position was observed in the subjects' receptions, indicating a close alignment between their experiences and the sexual communication messages conveyed by the Durex "Unequal Dinner" advertisement series. However, it does not guarantee the subjects' interest in purchasing Durex products.

Abstract

. Organizational communication culture plays a vital role in shaping working relationships within a team. This study aims to analyze the organizational communication culture in the Marketing Central (MC) Team of Jawa Timur Park (JTP), focusing on the hierarchical and participatory practices applied in daily work routines. Using a qualitative approach and semi-structured interviews, the researcher involved 14 active informants. The findings show that communication in MC JTP follows a top-down managerial structure, complemented by informal participatory communication among team members. Although this practice reflects flexible structuring, it does not fully align with dialogic communication principles. Communication barriers such as limited access to information and managerial dominance still occur but are generally resolved through direct dialogue or internal mediation. This research highlights that the communication culture in MC JTP is built not only on formal structures but also through symbolic daily interactions, as explained by Deetz and Geertz & Pacanowsky. The findings suggest that balancing control with flexibility can maintain work effectiveness, though improvements in open forums and evaluations are needed to enhance full member participation.

Abstract

The various public reactions that appeared in the comments section of the video about the song “Bayar Bayar Bayar” by the band Sukatani illustrate how the public perceives the image of the police institution today, as well as freedom of expression in Indonesia. Based on this, the content of the comments section is an important source of data for understanding the current image of the police and the implementation of democracy in Indonesia. This study employs content analysis methodology, with data collected from the comment sections of five YouTube channels. From these five channels, 24 videos were selected for analysis, chosen through purposive sampling based on the criteria of high credibility and discussions related to the Sukatani band between February 21–24, 2025. The results of this study reveal that netizens believe the practices described in the song lyrics “Bayar Bayar Bayar” are indeed occurring. Based on this, the police institution is currently in a paracrisis phase that could escalate into a full-blown crisis at any time. Additionally, the study found that netizens perceive the police institution as being resistant to criticism. The various criticisms of the police institution that appear in the comment sections reflect democracy itself, but the implementation of democracy has not yet been institutionalized, given the ongoing allegations of intimidation against the Sukatani band for criticizing the police.
