Abstract

This study aimed to compare the physical fitness levels of high school students in Bandung, Indonesia, based on active commuting modes of walking and cycling to school. A comparative quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 36 students selected through purposive sampling, consisting of 17 cyclists and 19 walkers. Physical fitness was assessed using the high-priority ALPHA-Fitness Test Battery, including body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, handgrip strength, standing long jump, and cardiorespiratory fitness (VO₂max). Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk test, Levene's test, Independent Sample t-test, and Mann-Whitney U test at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed no significant differences between the cycling and walking groups in BMI (p=0.975), waist circumference (p=0.155), handgrip strength (p=0.210), standing long jump (p=0.303), or VO₂max (p=0.274). Nevertheless, the cycling group consistently demonstrated slightly higher mean values and effect sizes across most fitness indicators. It can be concluded that walking and cycling to school did not result in significant differences in the physical fitness levels of high school students in Bandung, possibly due to the low dose of physical activity and the relatively small sample size. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of implementing the flipped classroom learning model on students' motivation toward physical education and their learning outcomes in the basketball extracurricular activity at SMPN 44 Bandung. This study employed an experimental method using a quasi-experimental approach and a pretest-posttest control group design. The study sample consisted of 32 students divided into two groups using the stratified random assignment technique, resulting in 16 students in each group: the experimental group (n = 16) and the control group (n = 16). The instruments used were the Sport Motivation Scale-II (SMS-II) to measure sports motivation and second-semester final exam report card scores to measure student learning outcomes. The results showed that, in general, the implementation of the Flipped Classroom Learning model did not have a significant effect on sports motivation (p = 0.273) or learning outcomes (p = 0.255). However, analysis based on the SMS-II subscales revealed a significant effect on external regulation (p = 0.005). The conclusion of this study is that the Flipped Classroom Learning model, with a 6-week intervention, did not have a significant effect on students' sports motivation and learning outcomes, but was effective in reducing students' external regulation in the basketball extracurricular program at SMPN 44 Bandung. Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effects of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation on students' participation in athletics learning and to compare which type of motivation has a more dominant influence on students' participation. The study employed a quantitative approach using an ex post facto research design. The population consisted of Grade XI students at SMA Negeri 8 Bandung, with a sample of 230 students selected using the Slovin formula and proportionate stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires adapted from the Intrinsic Motivation Inventory (IMI), Valence, Instrumentality, Expectancy Motivation Scale (VIEMS), and Student Engagement in School Items (SESI). The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS through descriptive statistical analysis, normality testing, linearity testing, multicollinearity testing, and simple linear regression analysis. The results indicated that intrinsic motivation had a positive and significant effect on students' participation (β = 0.706, p < 0.05), while extrinsic motivation also had a positive and significant effect on students' participation (β = 0.762, p < 0.05). A comparison of the standardized beta coefficients showed that extrinsic motivation had a more dominant influence on students' participation in athletics learning than intrinsic motivation. In conclusion, both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation significantly and positively influenced students' participation; however, extrinsic motivation was the more dominant factor. Therefore, efforts to increase students' participation should focus on strengthening intrinsic motivation while optimizing extrinsic factors, such as providing constructive feedback, appropriate rewards, and a supportive learning environment. Abstract

Physical inactivity among adolescents has become an increasingly worrying problem, highlighting the importance of physical education in fostering lifelong active behavior through the development of physical literacy. This study examines the relationship between physical literacy and physical activity levels among junior high school students in the context of school based physical education. A quantitative correlational design was used, involving 60 eighth grade students from a public junior high school in Bandung, Indonesia, who were selected using total sampling techniques. Physical literacy was measured using a validated questionnaire covering motor skills, motivation, knowledge, and self confidence, while physical activity levels were measured using the Physical Activity Questionnaire for Adolescents (PAQ-A). The data were analyzed using Pearson's product moment correlation and simple linear regression, after testing for normality and linearity. The results of the analysis showed a positive and statistically significant relationship between physical literacy and physical activity levels (p = 0.006; B = 0.467), indicating that students with higher physical literacy tended to be more active in participating in physical activities. These findings highlight the important role of physical education in developing physical literacy, which in turn contributes to increased participation in physical activity among adolescents. Strengthening physical literacy through structured and meaningful physical education learning is therefore essential for promoting active and sustainable lifestyles among junior high school students.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the declining interest of students in participating in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PE) learning, which is influenced by the dominance of digital technology, monotonous teaching methods, and the lack of innovative learning media. In the current digital era, students tend to prefer technology-based activities over physical activities, which has an impact on their engagement in PE learning. Therefore, innovative approaches such as gamification-based learning media are needed to create more engaging and interactive learning experiences. This study aims to determine the effect of the use of gamification-based learning media on the interest in learning Physical Education, Sports, and Health of class X students of State Senior High School 15 Bandung. The study used a quantitative approach with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample consisted of 85 students determined using the Slovin formula from a total population of 544 students. Data collection was carried out through a Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed using simple linear regression assisted by SPSS 17. The results showed that the use of gamification-based learning media had a significant effect on interest in learning Physical Education, Sports, and Health with a significance value of 0.000, a regression coefficient of 0.655, and an R Square value of 0.461. Thus, gamification-based learning media has proven effective in increasing interest in learning Physical Education and can be an alternative innovative learning approach in senior high schools.

Abstract

In today’s gadget-dominated world, fostering positive attitudes and teamwork among students is of utmost importance, given the negative effects of prolonged gadget use and the resulting addiction. Character education in schools plays a vital role in fostering a generation of citizens with positive values. One school program that plays a significant role is the futsal extracurricular activity conducted outside the classroom. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the futsal extracurricular activity can effectively develop attitudes and teamwork among students at Junior High School 3 Lembang . The method used is a quantitative approach with a causal-comparative research design. The sample in this study was selected using purposive sampling, comprising 40 students: a futsal extracurricular group (n = 20) and a non-futsal extracurricular control group (n = 20). The study utilized a questionnaire instrument with a Likert scale that had been validated for both validity and reliability. The data analysis employed descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The results of the descriptive statistics showed a significant difference in the High category. The experimental group (students participating in the futsal extracurricular activity) scored 100% on both the attitude and teamwork variables, far higher than the control group (students not participating in the futsal extracurricular activity), which scored only 55% (attitude) and 5% (teamwork). The results of the inferential statistics for both variables yielded a Sig. (2-tailed) value < 0.001. The Effect Size test (Cohen’s d) for the attitude variable yielded a value of 1.229, and for teamwork, 1.257. Conclusion: This study shows that futsal extracurricular activities are highly effective in developing students’ attitudes and teamwork skills as a solution to the widespread use of gadgets.

Abstract

Physical education in schools requires strategies that can improve not only motor skills (motor ability) but also motor educability, namely the ability of students to understand, imitate, and adapt to new movements efficiently. However, conventional learning in soccer games is often hampered by limited visualization of techniques and low student motivation. Augmented Reality (AR) technology offers a solution through interactive visualization and real-time feedback that can enrich the sensorimotor processing process. This study aims to analyze the effect of AR-based learning using Active Arcade on improving students’ motor educability compared to conventional learning. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group model on 134 students of Junior High School 14 Bandung (n = 67 experimental; n = 67 control). Motor educability was measured using the Iowa Brace Test (21 items ; validity 0.92; reliability 0.96). The intervention lasted for five learning sessions. Data analysis used normality, homogeneity, paired sample t-test , and ANOVA to test the treatment effect by controlling for pretest scores ( α = 0.05). The results showed that both groups experienced significant improvement between pretest and posttest (p < 0.001). However, the AR group showed a higher and more stable average improvement than the control group. ANOVA test indicated a significant difference in posttest scores after controlling for the pretest (F(1,132) = 4.996, p = 0.027), indicating that AR-based learning resulted in better motor educability than conventional learning. These findings confirm that AR is effective in enhancing visual processing, motor attention, and student engagement, thus optimally enhancing movement learning abilities. Therefore, AR is recommended as an innovative approach in physical education, particularly for materials requiring precise and interactive understanding of movement techniques.
