Abstract

This study evaluated kirinyuh leaf extract as a natural antioxidant using Soxhlet extraction and maceration extraction methods. Dried leaves of kirinyuh were extracted with 96% ethanol. The total phenolic content was measured spectrophotometrically according to the Folin Ciocalteu method, calculated as gallic acid equivalent (GAE), while the antioxidant activity was measured using ABTS. The results of the phytochemical test of kirinyuh leaf extract using maceration (EKM) and Soxhletation (EKS) methods revealed alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, steroids, and tannins. The total phenolic content of EKM was 39.85 ± 0.20 mgGAE/gram and EKS was 46.95 ± 0.15 mgGAE/gram extract. Antioxidant activity in the form of IC50 EKM was 46.10 ± 0.09 mg/L and EKS was 45.27 ± 0.07 mg/L, both of them have a very strong category. There were significant differences in the total phenolic content and antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of the Kirinyuh leaf using maceration and soxhletation methods based on the results of the T-test. Keywords: Kirinyuh, Eupatorium odoratum, ABTS, phenolics, antioxidant.

Abstract

Hypertension is an increase in systolic blood pressure of more than 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure of more than 90 mmHg on two measurements with an interval of five minutes in a state of sufficient rest, calm. Treatment of hypertension can use medicinal plants, namely bay leaves and soursop leaves. Bay leaves and soursop leaves have antioxidant activity that can counteract free radicals so that they can lower blood pressure, while bay leaves themselves contain flavonoids that can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. This activity program uses the method of giving local seminars and workshops directly to the PKK group in Kwarasan Village, Grogol District, Sukoharjo Regency. The results of real work lecture program showed an increase in participants' knowledge which was evaluated through an average increase in the pretest score from 86 to 94 during the posttest as well as an increase in the skills of participants in workshop activities.

Abstract

Purple roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) is a medicinal plant rich in anthocyanins and flavonoids, which function as natural antioxidants capable of neutralizing free radicals and preventing degenerative diseases. However, the community of Desa Pondok continues to use purple roselle sparingly, both for its health benefits and its economic potential. This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of PKK cadres and health volunteers in Desa Pondok in processing purple roselle into functional herbal tea. The program was conducted in four stages: a health education session on the benefits of roselle; training in the preparation of simplisia; a herbal tea-making workshop; and the introduction of simple digital marketing strategies. Evaluation was conducted through pre- and posttests and participant satisfaction questionnaires. The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ understanding, with the average pretest score of 57 rising to 96.67 in the posttest (p=0.000). Additionally, the level of community satisfaction with the overall implementation of the activity reached 97.88%, with an average satisfaction index of 4.89, indicating high satisfaction. The training not only equipped participants with technical skills but also opened opportunities for developing local herbal-based businesses. This activity proved effective in promoting the use of local natural resources and increasing community awareness of the importance of consuming natural antioxidants.
