Abstract

One type of green open space crucial to creating a delightful, comfortable, and healthy urban environment for city dwellers is Tebing Tinggi City Park. This study aims to examine how tourists see the presence of City Park Tebing Tinggi City and its greenery. To conduct research, two steps must be completed: creating a study questionnaire and interviewing park visitors in Tebing Tinggi City Park. The generated data will be tallied, graphically represented, and subjected to qualitative analysis through descriptions. The socio-demographic traits and perceptions of the respondents were investigated using descriptive analysis. According to the observation findings, visitors' perceptions of Tebing Tinggi City Park are also adequate or good. These impressions encompass the park's easy accessibility, active functions and activities, comfort and impression quality, and social capacity for teamwork. Then, we discovered that most people had a positive opinion of vegetation, with 70% of respondents thinking that it has more positive effects on animals, shade, and air quality than negative ones.

Abstract

Foreign Language Anxiety (FLA) is one of the most significant affective barriers in second language learning, capable of hindering language acquisition, reducing active participation, and undermining learners' self-confidence. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a supportive learning environment in addressing FLA and to identify the environmental elements that contribute most significantly to reducing anxiety levels. Employing a quasi-experimental quantitative approach with a pretest-posttest control group design, the study involved 72 intermediate-level English learners divided into an experimental group (supportive environment) and a control group (conventional environment). Over 12 learning sessions, the experimental group experienced a supportive environment intervention comprising: (a) non-judgmental feedback, (b) normalization of errors as part of the learning process, (c) positive reinforcement of participation, (d) collaborative seating arrangements, and (e) the establishment of psychological safety through a shared learning contract. Anxiety levels were measured using the validated Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS). The results indicated that the experimental group experienced a statistically significant reduction in FLA scores (p < 0.001) compared to the control group, with a large effect size (ηp² = 0.378). The most substantial reductions occurred in the dimensions of "fear of negative evaluation" and "communication apprehension." The study concludes that a supportive learning environment—emphasizing psychological safety, valuing effort, and destigmatizing errors—is effective in alleviating foreign language anxiety. Consequently, language educators should intentionally design supportive classroom climates as both a preventive and curative strategy against FLA.

Abstract

Generation Alpha—those born from 2010 onwards—grows up in a dynamic bilingual or multilingual environment where the mother tongue (a regional language) remains in use for daily communication at home and in the community, while Indonesian is formally taught in schools as the medium of instruction and a marker of national identity. However, among speakers of the Banyumasan (or *Ngapak*) dialect in western Central Java, mother-tongue interference in Generation Alpha’s spoken and written Indonesian remains strong, despite their early exposure to digital media and formal education. This study aims to identify the forms of phonological, morphological, and syntactic interference from the Banyumasan dialect into the Indonesian produced by Generation Alpha, and to analyze the factors influencing the extent of this interference. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design, the research involved 30 Generation Alpha students (aged 10–12) from three elementary schools in Banyumas Regency, Central Java. Data were collected through recordings of spoken language (semi-structured interviews and storytelling tasks) and analysis of written texts (narrative and descriptive essays). The study yielded three main findings. First, phonological interference was most dominant in the pronunciation of the vowel /a/ at the end of words—often articulated as /ə/ (schwa)—and the shift of the consonant /s/ to /h/ in specific positions. Second, morphological interference was evident in the use of certainty-marking particles, such as *-e*, which were inappropriately inserted into standard Indonesian sentences. Third, syntactic interference was reflected in sentence structures featuring inversions characteristic of the Banyumasan dialect, as well as the omission of prepositions in certain constructions. The dominant factor driving this interference was the family environment, where the Banyumasan dialect was used exclusively (86% of participants reported using the dialect at home), whereas exposure to digital media and the duration of formal education showed no significant correlation with the level of interference. This study concludes that the mother-tongue interference observed in Generation Alpha speakers of the Banyumasan dialect is systemic in nature and requires specific pedagogical intervention, rather than merely additional exposure to standard Indonesian. Consequently, teachers need training to explicitly identify patterns of Banyumasan dialect interference and to design contextual Indonesian language instruction that utilizes the contrasts between the dialect and the standard language as teaching material, rather than treating them as "errors" to be penalized.
