Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Nurses’ therapeutic communication is a key element in enhancing patients’ experiences during hospitalization; however, its simultaneous impact on service satisfaction and self-care remains underexplored, particularly in regional hospitals in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the relationship between patients’ perceptions of nurses’ therapeutic communication and their service satisfaction and self-care levels among inpatients. Methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted on 110 patients at the inpatient ward of a type C hospital. Data were collected using the Nurse–Patient Communication Questionnaire (NPCQ; 15 items), a validated 7-item modified Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire (PSQ-18), and the Self-Care Ability Scale (SCAS; 12 items). Spearman’s correlation and simple linear regression analyses were performed, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05.Results: Patients reported high perceptions of therapeutic communication (mean = 48.2/60), high service satisfaction (mean = 28.6/35), and moderate to high self-care ability (mean = 36.8/48). Therapeutic communication demonstrated a strong positive correlation with service satisfaction (r = 0.68, p < 0.001) and a moderate-to-strong correlation with self-care (r = 0.59, p < 0.001). Regression analysis revealed that therapeutic communication explained 45% of the variance in satisfaction and 34% of the variance in self-care. Notably, while respect and information clarity scored highest (means = 3.6–3.8), patient involvement in care decisions was the lowest-rated dimension (mean = 2.7).Conclusion: Therapeutic communication serves as a dual-impact clinical competency that enhances both emotional satisfaction and functional self-care. These findings call on hospital administrators and nursing educators to institutionalize communication training as a core, measurable component of nursing practice, not as a soft skill, especially in resource-constrained settings.

Abstract

Abstract: Having a job as a farmer doesn't mean you don't have negative risks that can cause pain. Even the farming profession has health risks that tend to vary with the naked eye. The use of pesticides that can lead to poisoning, the use of agricultural tools and machinery which can cause injury, even to the position at work that can cause certain diseases that can interfere with the activities of farmers. Identify the relationship between causal factors and the incidence of occupational illness in the agricultural sector. The research method is a cross sectional method to link the causative factors with the incidence of work related illness in the agricultural area. The survey was conducted on 357 farmers in the working area of the Lumajang Regency Agriculture Service. Ergonomics analysis results, Pearson Chi Square value is 0.004. This value indicates that there is a relationship between ergonomics and the incidence of back pain. The use of pesticides, has a Pearson Chi Square analysis, the value is 0.000. This value indicates that there is a relationship between the use of pesticides and the disease caused such as shortness of breath or eye irritation. While using alsinta, the Pearson Chi Square analysis has a value of 0.000. This value is below 0.05, which means that there is a close relationship between the use of alsinta and the incidence of injuries by farmers. Based on the results above, there are three factors that cause taruma in the agricultural area, namely pesticides, agricultural tools and machinery and ergonomic position errors. So that efforts are needed to anticipate the high risk of occupational diseases in agricultural areas.. Keywords: Agriculture, Farmer, Occupational disease

Abstract

Farmers represent a professional group frequently exposed to workplace emergencies. During agricultural activities, inhalation of dust and fine particles can lead to sudden airway obstruction, severely compromising respiratory function. To prevent fatal outcomes, farmers require structured knowledge and practical skills in immediate response, including basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation and choking management. This study aimed to analyze the effect of basic life support training on improving farmers’ competence in handling choking incidents caused by foreign body obstruction. A pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach was employed. The sample comprised 30 participants, calculated using the Slovin formula and selected through purposive sampling. Pre- and post-intervention assessments revealed significant improvements in participants’ ability to manage choking emergencies. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test confirmed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001). These findings demonstrate that structured training effectively enhances first-aid capabilities for respiratory emergencies. Integrating simulation-based practice into community programs is recommended to strengthen response readiness and improve overall safety awareness among agricultural workers. Abstract

Clinical skill deficits among vocational nursing students compromise patient safety, particularly when conventional training lacks structured feedback mechanisms. This study investigated the effects of a deliberate practice intervention and self-efficacy on clinical skills performance. A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control-group design was conducted with 60 second-semester diploma nursing students, who were allocated via matched sampling to the experimental (n=30) or control (n=30) groups. The experimental cohort completed an eight-session deliberate practice program (90 minutes per week for four weeks), while the control group received standard instruction. Blinded assessors evaluated psychomotor skills using a validated Objective Structured Clinical Examination checklist, and self-efficacy was measured with the General Self-Efficacy Scale. Intervention fidelity was rigorously maintained through protocol checklists. The experimental group demonstrated significantly superior post-intervention clinical skills scores compared to controls (mean difference = 12.47, 95% CI [8.40, 15.60], p < .001). Self-efficacy independently predicted skill performance (β = 0.29, p = .008). Combined, the intervention and self-efficacy explained 58.3% of the variance in clinical performance (adjusted R² = 0.55, p < .001). Structured deliberate practice substantially enhances clinical competency in vocational nursing students, with self-efficacy functioning as a critical complementary predictor. Nursing educators should systematically integrate deliberate practice frameworks with targeted confidence-building strategies to optimize psychomotor skill acquisition and strengthen patient safety outcomes.

Abstract

Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) is a critical predictor of future stroke, yet it is frequently underrecognized due to its transient and often mild neurological manifestations. This literature review aims to synthesize clinical and technological approaches for early screening and detection of TIA, emphasizing strategies aligned with timely intervention and stroke prevention. A systematic search was conducted across PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar, identifying 94 articles. Following PRISMA guidelines, 10 studies were selected based on inclusion criteria related to early detection, emergency response, and digital health interventions. The analysis yielded three major themes: (1) the clinical relevance of early recognition of subtle neurological symptoms, (2) the role of emergency medical services and prehospital screening tools, and (3) the emergence of mobile health (mHealth) and telemedicine platforms in supporting early TIA detection. Findings indicate that while TIA symptoms are transient, they signal a significant risk of subsequent stroke, underscoring the need for prompt and accurate assessment. Technological innovations such as mobile applications and teleconsultation enhance traditional diagnostic methods but face challenges in implementation, including disparities in digital access and limited public awareness. In conclusion, integrating clinical vigilance with scalable technological solutions holds promise for improving early TIA detection, particularly in resource limited or remote settings. It is recommended that health systems invest in training emergency responders and adopt validated digital tools into prehospital protocols. Future research should focus on clinical validation and real-world integration of mHealth platforms to support global stroke prevention efforts.
