Abstract

The aim of this research was to analyze the performance of the super native chicken and the optimal level of chicken intestine meal which can substitute fish meal in the feed ration. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 5 treatments and 4 replications. The treatments given were P0 = 10% fish meal + 0% chicken intestine meal in the feed rations, P1 = 7.5% fish meal + 2.5% chicken intestine meal in the feed rations, P2 = 5% fish meal + 5% chicken intestine meal in the feed rations, P3 = 2.5% fish meal + 7.5% chicken intestine meal in the feed ration, P4 = 0% fish meal + 10% chicken intestine meal in the feed ration. The number of super native chickens used in this study was 100 chickens. The results showed that giving chicken intestine meal as a substitute for fish meal in the feed ration had no significant effect (P 0.05) on feed ration consumption, body weight gain, and feed conversion ratio of super native chicken. It can be concluded that giving chicken intestine meal as a substitute for fish meal in the feed ration gives the same performance. Chicken intestine meal can substitute or replace fish meal up to a level of 10% in the feed ration super native chicken.

Abstract

Polysaccharides contain mannan (PM) from palm kernel meal (PKM) potential as leader pathogen microorganism and enhancing the immune responses. The objective of the study was to evaluate efficacy of PM as oral adjuvant in increasing AI H5N1 antibody titer and immunoglobulin A (IgA) in serum of broiler thirty chickens age 1 - 6 weeks were divided onto five groups and assigned randomly to five vaccine treatments i.e : un-vaccinated birds (R0A), birds vaccinated with antigen H5N1 + 0 µg PM (R0B), birds vaccinated with antigen H5N1 + 50 µg PM (R1), birds vaccinated with antigen H5N1 + 100 µg PM (R2) and  birds vaccinated with antigen H5N1 + 200 µg PM (R3). The results showed the treatment did not reduce broiler body weight (PM is not toxic). AI H5N1 antibody titer increased significantly (P0.05) one week after the first vaccination, serum IgA of broiler also increased significantly (P0.05) two weeks after the second vaccination. R3 treatment (200 μg PM) produce higher HI antibody titer ≤ 5 log2 and serum IgA 1.6 fold higher compared with those of broiler received R0A and R0B. It can be concluded that PM can increase the immune response in broiler chickens and can be used as an adjuvant for inactive AI vaccine.

Abstract

Elephantgrass of the odot variety has a fast harvest period and is able to regrow quickly after defoliation. Bisi-16 maize variety has high production of biomass, crude protein and digestibility of feed. The experimental plots were arranged in a block design of latin square method at 4 treatments of planting density and 4 replications for each planting density. The planting density used for the elephantgrass variety of odot were high density (H), namely H1 = 25 cm x 25 cm (16 plants/m2 without inserting maize) as a control, and H2 = 25 cm x 25 cm (16 plants/m2) with a maize plant insert of 64 plants, Middle density (M) = 25 cm x 50 cm (8 plants/m2) with a maize plant insert of 80 plants, and Low density (L) = 50 cm x 50 cm (4 plants/m2) with a maize plant insert of 100 plants. The insertion of maize plants is 1 plant for every 10 cm of density. Both elephant grass and maize will be harvested at the age of 90 days after planting. Growth and biomass production of elephantgrass odot variety and bisi-16 maize variety increased with decreasing density and increasing insertion of maize plants from high, medium and low density. Double cropping between elephantgrass variety of Odot and maize variety of bisi-16 became an excellent blend of plants in producing forage beef cattle. Low density (50 cm x 50 cm) on elephantgrass variety of odot with insertion of 100 maize plants (1 cm/1 maize seedling) resulted in a high stocking rate as sustainable beef cattle feed.

Abstract

This study aimed to measure the effect of L-Arginine supplementation in the ration of laying duck and in-ovo injection of L-Arginine during egg incubation on breast muscle dimensions and carcass percentage of local duck. A total of 500 fertile eggs were obtained from laying ducks fed ration without supplementation of L-Arginine containing 1.04% digestible Arginine and 500 other fertile eggs were obtained from laying ducks fed ration supplemented with 0.25% L-Arginine containing 1.29% digestible Arginine. The eggs were subjected to 4 treatments with 5 replications. The treatments were: 1) eggs collected from laying ducks fed ration supplemented with 0% L-Arginine and in ovo injected with 0% L-Arginine during egg incubation as a control (P0); 2) eggs collected from laying ducks fed ration supplemented with 0% L-Arginine and in ovo injected with 1.5% L-Arginine during egg incubation (P1); 3) eggs collected from laying ducks fed ration supplemented with 0.25% L-Arginine and in ovo injected with 0% L-Arginine during egg incubation (P2); and 4) eggs collected from laying ducks fed ration supplemented with 0.25% L-Arginine and in ovo injected with 1.5% L-Arginine during egg incubation (P3). In-ovo injection of L-Arginine was performed on day 8th of incubation by injection of 1.5% L-Arginine into albumen using automatic syringe with a depth of 10 mm. The 180 day-olds hatched unsexed ducks were divided and moved into the pens according to the treatment groups. At the aged of 8 weeks, a male duck and a female duck from each experimental unit were measured for live weight and carcass weight, then the right Pectoralis major muscle sample was taken for histological analysis of myofibril. The results showed that supplementation of L-Arg in the ration of laying ducks and in-ovo injection of L-Arginine during egg incubation could increase muscle mass (number, diameter, and surface area) of the myofibril, live weight, and carcass percentage of offspring ducks compared to control offspring ducks. In conclusion, L-Arginine supplementation in the ration of laying ducks and in-ovo injections of L-Arginine into the eggs during incubation could increase breast muscle dimensions and carcass percentage of offspring local ducks.
