Abstract

Global warming is one of the issues in the world today, characterized by an increase in the earth's temperature due to greenhouse gases. Mangrove forests are one of the blue carbon parameters that can utilize CO2 for photosynthesis and store it in the form of biomass and sediment well. Sediments serve as a growing medium and a place to accumulate various components, including carbon. Carbon stored in mangrove sediments tends to be greater than in other types of forests. The study aimed to determine sediment carbon stocks based on density and the relationship between mangrove density and estimated carbon stocks in sediments in the mangrove ecosystem of Apar Village, North Pariaman District. Mangrove sediment sampling was carried out using the Purpose Sampling technique, and the data obtained were analyzed using the Loss on Ignition method. The results showed that the highest average carbon stock in sediments was found at station 2 with medium density, which was 215,03 tonnes/ha, followed by station 3, which had a high density, with a value of 197,98 tonnes/ha, and the lowest average carbon stock was found at station 1 with medium density, which was 132,43 ind/ha. Future research is expected to observe carbon stocks in mangrove stands and litter in the Apar Village mangrove ecosystem to obtain more detailed information

Abstract

This research was conducted in June 2022 in the coastal area of Saruang Sakin, Sungai Nyalo Village, West Sumatra Province. This study examines the relationship between sediment organic matter content and the abundance of macrozoobenthos. The method used in this study is the survey method, in which samples will be taken directly at the research location, sediment sampling using a pipe with a size of 10 cm and a length of 70 cm, and macrozoobenthos samples taken directly by hand and a shovel in a plot with a size each plot 1 m x1 m, to see the relationship between the organic matter content of the sediment and its abundance, a simple linear regression test was carried out. Sediment samples were analyzed in the marine chemistry laboratory, and macrozoobenthos samples were analyzed in the marine biology laboratory. This study's results indicate that the sediment's organic matter content ranges from 1.03% - 4.30%. The abundance of macrozoobenthos between study stations obtained an average abundance value of 3.44-5.89 ind/m². The simple linear regression test results obtained a correlation value of 0.092 with a coefficient of determination of 0.1 and a significance value of 0.942

Abstract

The waters of Terkul are related to the strait of Rupat. Around the Terkul area, there is an oil and gas industry with transportation, storage, processing, and distribution of oil supplies to various regions in Sumatra through ship transportation. This activity causes the waters of the Rupat Strait to be prone to oil pollution. Oil pollution can reduce the quality of the waters and cause nutrient content in the waters to decrease. Nutrients greatly affect the concentration of chlorophyll-a in the waters. Chlorophyll-a is a pigment capable of photosynthesis and is present throughout phytoplankton organisms. The purpose of this study was to analyze the association of nitrate concentration and phosphate concentration to chlorophyll-a. the study was conducted in April 2021. Waters sample was collected from the waters of Terkul and sample analysis was conducted in the Marine Chemistry Laboratory. The results of the study show that the association between chlorophyll-a and phosphate corresponds to the regression result of obtaining a value (r) of 0.67. Linearly shows a strong relationship

Abstract

The research was conducted in June - August 2022 in the coastal waters of Padang and Pariaman, West Sumatera. The method used in this research was a survey method. This research aims to determine the organic matter content of the sediment, the abundance of macrozoobenthos, and the relationship between sediment organic matter and the quantity of macrozoobenthos. Sampling was designed by purposive sampling by using 20x30 cm2 Ekman grab. The organic matter content of sediments in the Padang and Pariaman Coastal Waters, West Sumatra, ranged from 4.09 to 7.53%. The average abundance of macrozoobenthos at the four stations ranged from 20.37 to 90.74 ind/m2. Based on the identification results, the macrozoobenthos class found in the coastal waters of Padang and Pariaman consists of Bivalvia, Gastropods, and Malacostraca. The analysis of the sediment organic matter showed weak position relationships with macrozoobenthos abundance.

Abstract

This research was carried out in June 2023; the research location was on the coast of Kampung Beran, Tanjung Harapan, Meranti Islands Regency. This research aims to determine the type and abundance of beach litter, analyze the differences in the type and abundance of beach waste between stations, and analyze the type and abundance of beach litter between sampling times. Beach litter data collection was taken at three stations, with each station 25m in distance. Each station has three transect lines with nine plots or quadrants measuring 5×5 m2 with a distance between plots of 5m. Sampling was conducted during low tide and on weekdays (Tuesday, Wednesday) and weekends (Saturday, Sunday). Based on the research results, five types of beach litter were found, namely plastic (40%), iron/metal materials (5%), broken glass/ceramic (31%), rubber (3%), wood (11%), and others (10%). The highest abundance of waste occurred on weekdays (10,59 units/m2), and the lowest waste occurred on weekends (7,97 units/m2). ANOVA analysis and independent sample test show that the abundance of beach litter waste between stations and between sampling times did not have significant differences (P > 0.05).

Abstract

The study was conducted in December 2022 in the Dumai River Estuary and Dumai City Mesjid River Estuary, Riau Province. The purpose of this study is to determine the amount and type of garbage that enters the sea through the estuary of the Dumai River and the Mesjid River, the difference between the amount and type of waste, and the difference between days from the garbage contained in the estuary of the Dumai River and the Mesjid River in Dumai City. The research method used is a direct survey method in the field, where data collection is carried out directly at low tide using a net stretched at the mouth of the river so that garbage is collected and trapped following the river's flow into the net. Based on the research conducted, it was found that the types of waste trapped were plastic, foamy plastic, cloth, paper, rubber, and wood. The amount of input and composition of waste in two weeks to the mouth of the Dumai River was 28,26 kg in the first week and 30,64 kg in the second week, while in the estuary of the Mesjid River, it was less, namely the first week as much as 20,59 kg, and in the second week as much as 19,44 kg. The difference between the amount and type of waste contained in the Dumai River and the Mesjid River for two weeks found that plastic waste occupied the most significant amount, namely 30,43 kg with a composition of 51,55% and 49,71 kg with a composition of 49,71% based on total waste input. The difference in waste input based on the day at the mouth of the Dumai River and the highest Mesjid River is found on Sunday, namely at the mouth of the Dumai River with a total waste of 27,79 kg and at the mouth of the Mesjid River with a total of 16,67 kg.
