Abstract

Padang and Pariaman Beaches are regional strategic locations for tourism and have been growing rapidly. However, waste has become a significant concern because of its anthropogenic impact. This study aims to identify and analyze the types of waste abundance on both beaches of these tourist destinations. This research was conducted in August 2022 using a survey method. This study found eight types of waste in the two locations. They comprise plastic, metal, glass, wood, paper, rubber, and cloth fragments. The total fragment on Padang Beach reached 3,392 items/m2, higher during the weekend than before the weekend (1,212 and 1,072 items/m2). Meanwhile, the total fragment on Pariaman Beach reached 2,484 items/m2 and was higher during the weekends than after the weekends (0.956 and 0.74 items/m2). Moreover, there was no significant difference between the two locations (p>0.05). It might relate to the characteristics of the same water quality parameters: the current velocity ranges from 0.3-0.4 m/s (medium current), so it does not have a different effect.

Abstract

One of the microalgae that are widely used in the industrial world is Spirulina platensis which has high nutritional content of protein, fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants. In its growth, this microalgae requires media and the addition of macronutrients nitrate and phosphate which greatly affect the growth and productivity of S. platensis biomass. This study aims to determine the effect of nitrate and phosphate concentrations on S. platensis biomass on an indoor scale and to determine the optimal nitrate and phosphate concentrations to achieve maximum biomass. This research was conducted in August 2020 as an experimental method, with culturing S. platensis with the addition of different concentrations of nitrate and phosphate. The design used in this study was a Completely Randomized Design consisting of 5 treatments that are 0 ppm, 10 ppm, 20 ppm, 30 ppm, and 40 ppm, each treatment with 3 repetitions. The source of nitrate and phosphate used is NPK. Water quality parameters during culture with temperatures ranging from 29-30oC, salinity 25-26 ppt, and pH 8. The optimal concentrations of nitrate and phosphate to achieve the maximum biomass is in treatment C (30 ppm) with a total of biomass 0,43 g. Whereas in treatment D (40 ppm) the biomass did not show a significant increase because the dose was too high with a total of biomass only 0,299 g

Abstract

Around the Kambang Estuary, there are fish shelters (TPI), fishing boat ports, residential areas, and mangrove ecosystems. This causes a decrease in water quality due to the increase in organic matter, which has an impact on the life of macrozoobenthos. The study conducted in February 2021 aims to analyze the organic matter content of sediments, identify the type and abundance of macrozoobenthos and the relationship between sedimentary organic matter and the abundance of macrozoobenthos. Determination of stations using purposive sampling method. This research was carried out at 4 stations with 4 sampling points. The results showed that the organic matter content found varied from 4.23 to 8.47%. The abundance of macrozoobenthos ranged from 13.89 to 38.89 ind/m2. The species of macrozoobenthos found at the study site consisted of 8 species from 3 classes of bivalves, gastropods and malacostraca. The relationship between the organic matter content in the sediment and the abundance of macrozoobenthos is obtained by the equation Y = 22.734 + 0.319X, where the coefficient of determination (R2) is 0.003 and the correlation coefficient (r) is 0.054, which is a very weak shows correlation.

Abstract

Coastal and marine areas have the potential for anthropogenic pollution. Solid waste, especially plastic, is a pollutant that contributes greatly to polluting coastal areas. Plastic will degrade into small sizes known as microplastics. The purpose of this study was to determine the content of microplastics in the Padang and Pariaman Coastal Waters, West Sumatra. This research was conducted in November 2021 in the seawaters of Padang Wisata Beach (Air Manis Beach and Muaro Lasak Beach) and Pariaman Beach (Kata Beach and Gandoriah Beach) of West Sumatra Province. Based on the results of the study, four types of microplastics were found, namely fiber, film, fragments, and granules. The type of fragment is the dominant type found, followed by the type of film, fiber and granules. Microplastic abundance at Air Manis Beach ranged from 616.67-2196.97 particles/m3, Muaro Lasak Beach 916.67-2396.67 particles/m3, Kata Beach 320.00-1190.00 particles/m3, and Gandoriah Beach 550, 00-1363.33 particles/m3. In general, at Padang Beach and Pariaman Beach by type, microplastic fragments were the most common type found with a percentage of 53%. The type of film is the second most common type (32%), followed by the type of fiber (11%) and the type of grain (4%). Microplastics were distributed in seawater at Padang Beach and Pariaman Beach with different abundances.

Abstract

Oil pollution in the waters is one of the factors that affect the abundance of fhytoplankton, especially the diatom. The waters of Lalang Strait, Mengkapan Village, are used as international shipping lanes and industrial areas. This study aims to analyze the total oil content, calculate the abundance of planktonic diatoms, and explain the relationship between the total oil content and the abundance of planktonic diatoms carried out in the Lalang Strait waters, Mengkapan Village, Siak Regency, Riau Province. This research uses survey method. Station 1 is near Tanjung Buton Port, station 2 is in the mangrove ecotourism area, and station 3 is in the fishing port and near the settlement. The result of oil content analysis obtained an average value of 0,00016 ppm. The highest oil content at station 3 is 0,00035 ppm and the lowest at station 2 is 0,00011 ppm. The results of the calculation of the abundance of planktonic diatoms ranged from 5.014 to 22.062 cells/L. The highest abundance at station 1 was 17.716 cells/L. The lowest abundance was at station 2 which was 9.694 cells/L. Simple linear regression test result, obtained equation Y= 14,2644+(-3802,27x). The coefficient of determination (R2)= 0,002 states 0,2 % of the abundance of planktonic diatoms is influenced by oil content and the rest is influenced by other environmental factors. Correlation coefficient (r) = 0,053, so the relationship of total oil content with the abundance of planktonic diatoms is very weak.
