Abstract

Abstract: Matthew 5:17-48 is part of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, where it is the deepest reflection of God's law which contrasts sharply with the patterns and teachings of the scribes and Pharisees. This passage concludes with Jesus' mandate to His followers to be perfect as their Father in heaven is perfect (5:48). The word perfect in this text is translated from the Greek word τέλειος which can actually be translated as perfect, complete or mature. The difference in interpretation of the meaning of the word τέλειος has led to several different thoughts and doctrines. In Matthew 5:48's research, the author uses general hermeneutic principles to find the meaning or meaning conveyed by the author to the first reader. This research used the critical historical interpretation method. In addition, the author also uses library research methods, by reading books, journals and investigating books related to the discussion of this scientific work. Based on the description of this scientific work, the authors draw the following conclusions: first, the meaning of the word τέλειος in Matthew 5:48 does not refer to a sinless perfect state, but rather to the meaning of completeness. Second, the example of life for believers is God himself, not others. Third, the command to be perfect like God is not an impossible thing for God's people to do. Fourth, completeness like God can only be experienced if humans have an intimate relationship with God. Fifth, Jesus calls His people to be complete in fellowship.

Abstract

In the current reality of the development of faith and the church, there are challenges in the form of unhealthy teachings that can hinder the growth of true religion. That is why this research aims to analyze and reveal the concept of God's servants based on Titus 1:5-2:10. Then, show and describe the steps to become a servant of God who contributes to the development of the church and society through sound teachings based on Titus 1:5-2:10. The results of this research are that four factors challenge the church in dealing with heresy. However, this challenge is paradoxical because, on the other hand, within this challenge, there are opportunities for the church, especially for community development. The four factors include, First, Religious Pluralism and Moral Relativism. It is essential to properly understand the moral values taught by the religious scriptures so that they can be the primary key to opening the way for evangelization missions. Second, the influence of media and technology. The presence of social media will become an increasingly important service object for maintaining connections among its people—third, Heretical Teachings. The church needs to act firmly to fight the practices of heretics who try to distort the truth to suit their wishes. Fourth, Materialism and Worldly Pleasures. No human wealth can buy life or health. Therefore, this "empty space" can provide an opportunity for God's servants, who are equipped with sound doctrine, to bring people to the needs of eternity rather than mortal.

Abstract

This article focused on Samson's fall when he was in the phase of prosperity and glory. The downfall in this article referred to engaging in sexual sin, corruption, abuse of power and various scandals. The portrait of Samson's fall narrated by the Book of Judges also happened to some spiritual leaders today. The background of the problem accompanied by factual data was the main basis of this article. In writing this article, literature study and hermeneutic approaches were used to design the articles. The formulations of questions asked were what caused Samson's fall in the prosperity phase? And why did church leaders tend to fall in their phase of prosperity? The findings of this article revealed that Samson fell because he was a leader who tended to be difficult to accept advice from others, he was individualistic, narcissistic, and easily swayed by lust. These things were not much different from the downfall of some spiritual leaders today, as a result the image of religious leaders was damaged because of their deeds.

Abstract

The story in Mark 10:17-22 is about a young man who came to Jesus and wanted to know how one can obtain eternal life. The problem is that nowhere does Jesus answer that to obtain eternal life, this rich young man must believe in Him. This is interesting and encourages the author to further examine Jesus' teaching from this narrative. The purpose of this study is to look at Jesus' teaching in Mark 10:17-22 and its implications for spiritual formation. The author used a qualitative method with a literature study approach related to the topic under study. The results of this study describe the teachings of Jesus, namely salvation is not obtained by doing good, believing and trusting in Jesus should not be accompanied by attachment to worldly things including possessions, and salvation is the grace of God. The implication for spiritual formation is that a person lives holy and does good not only by keeping silent, but also by doing real acts of kindness, and needs to be accompanied by humility. Keywords: spiritual formation, grace, wealth, young people

Abstract

Throughout the church's history, the debate on Christology has been an important and controversial topic. One is about the Divinity and humanity of Jesus, which has been a long debate in the history of Christianity. Jesus' divinity and humanity are essential because they relate to the foundation of the believer's faith. In addition to the debate about the Christology of Jesus among Christians, there is another debate among the Jews about the person of Jesus himself, namely that Jesus is not the Messiah. Although many biblical texts have been used to defend the issue of Christology, there are still other biblical texts that have not been studied as a basis for discussing the issue. The purpose of this study is to add primary biblical references to the apologetics of Christology. The biblical basis for examining the nature of Godliness and humanity and the Messiahship of Jesus is the Gospel of Mark 9:2-13. The method used is the exegesis method. This method is suitable for finding a clear meaning of the word to be analyzed. The result of this study is that the words Transfigured (metamorphoo) , Son (huios), and Man (anthropos) explain that Jesus is a true man and a true God and as Heir, that is, the anointed Messiah of God.

Abstract

The creation mandate that God gives to humanity is encapsulated in the phrase "Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it" in Genesis 1:28. This command presents challenges both in terms of interpretation and application. The main issue is whether the command to "fill the earth" remains relevant to do and fulfill, and what exactly the Bible intends by this. The command to fill the earth is also accompanied by the command to "subdue it," which carries a negative connotation. The purpose of this research is to present a discussion regarding the meaning of these two commands and to analyze their relevance in the present context. The author employs a qualitative method with an exegesis approach and literature study. The findings reveal that the command to "fill" should not only be understood literally but also spiritually. Birth, in this context, should also occur spiritually through evangelism and discipleship. Furthermore, the commands to "fill" and "subdue" are closely related, emphasizing the principles of balance and stewardship. Humanity must ensure that the human population is in harmony with available resources. This also speaks to humanity's responsibility to manage creation so that resources are sufficient for all.

Abstract

This study explores how members of the Dayak Tunjung Christian community in Lamin Telihan, East Kalimantan, continue to practise and affirm traditional beliefs in reincarnation (Suli) and ritual healing (Belian) despite their formal affiliation with the Evangelical Christian Church (GKII). The research aims to understand the dynamics of religious identity negotiation between institutional Christianity and local cosmological frameworks that have long shaped the community’s worldview. Using a qualitative approach and grounded theory methodology, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and field notes involving traditional leaders, church members, and community elders. The findings reveal that Suli and Belian persist not merely as residual pre-Christian practices but as active, meaningful expressions of lived religion that contribute to spiritual resilience and cultural continuity. These practices function as alternative frameworks for interpreting life, death, and healing—often offering more inclusive and contextually relevant narratives than doctrinal Christian eschatology. The study shows that religious conversion among the Dayak Tunjung is not a linear or total rupture from the past but a layered process of hybridisation and negotiation. The research contributes to scholarship on syncretism, vernacular religion, and ethical pluralism by presenting a unique Indonesian case where indigenous cosmologies coexist with global religious structures. This originality lies in its focus on reincarnation within a Christian setting—a subject rarely explored in Southeast Asian contexts—highlighting the adaptive and dialogical nature of religiosity in multicultural societies.

Abstract

Abstract This study aims to analyze and discover about Jesus' ignorance regarding the second coming. In addition, in writing this scientific paper, a description of the implications of this ignorance of Christology will also be included. In an effort to obtain these objectives in this study, researchers use The research method used in writing this thesis is a qualitative research method based on hermeneutic principles with a commonly used interpretation approach described by Hasan Sutanto. This approach focuses on the text of Mark 13:32. Next, the author uses data collection techniques through library research by using the Bible as primary literature and dictionaries, interpretations, books and journals as secondary literature.   The results showed that Jesus said the Son did not know the second coming does not mean that He  really did not know the  coming,  Jesus knew of the day but He limited Himself to not knowing that day at once this is a statement that man is limited, and as a Son He chose to obey the Father's plan for Himself in the first coming.

As for the indicators that the researchers found as the cause of the decrease in attendance at worship, the interest in serving was due to: First, Less in-depth teaching. Second, the time of teaching. The conclusion from the discussion of this thesis is First, the teaching carried out by the pastor focuses on each of the themes that have been determined so that the teaching of the fourfold gospel does not focus on teaching. Second, young men and women think that the four-fold gospel is only a logo, not a teaching.
