Abstract

Batu Busuk village, Lambung Bukit, Pauh Sub-district, Padang City is one of the durians producing centre that is known for its good fruit quality. As a smallholding's plantation, durian is subsistence cultivation with minimum preservation. Generally, the durian plant derived from seed multiplication, hence the quality of the product is not uniform and less productive. It is, therefore, necessary to transfer the appropriate technology that can provide seedlings in a short time and fast, simple implementation with a high success rate. Mini-grafting technology becomes a solution for the rejuvenation of durian in Batu Busuk. The community activities start in 2018 and persist in 2020. Durian nursery has carried out from July 2019, and the distribution of seedlings to the community has conducted in February 2020. The methods of transfer technology were counselling, plot demonstration and training to the durian planter community. Based on results, the problem in providing seedlings for rejuvenation of durian plants in Batu Busuk can be overcome by supplying seedlings from mini-grafting implementation. The nursery of durian with mini-grafting technology was successfully carried out and gained approximately 1100 seedlings. The mini-grafting success rate performed by durian planters reached 43%, indicating that skills play a fundamental role in the success rate of grafting on durian. Evaluation of the root stock growth demonstrated that we could use medium- and large-sized seeds from any variety of durian as rootstock due to its better growth performance. Hence, the mini-grafting technology on durian nursery activity must be maintained independently and sustainably by using the scion derived from its superior local durian in order to the advancement of durian of Batu Busuk.

Abstract

The development of Batu Busuk into an agro-tourism area is the existence of people's durian plantations which are cultivated in a sub-system. Durian is known as one of Indonesia's tropical exotic fruit plants with a delicacy of taste and a certain aroma that is nicknamed the king fruit. The high potency of durian should expose Batu Busuk as a durian village that sells fresh durian fruit and diversified durian processed products such as durian ice cream, durian dodol, durian pancakes, and frozen durian to support tourism development. A SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) needs to be carried out to assess the potency of the development of durian processed products in supporting Batu Busuk village as a tourist destination. This community service activity took place in Batu Busuk village, Lambung Bukit sub-district, Pauh sub-district, Padang Municipality. Partners in this activity are PKK Kampung Batu Busuk. The purpose of this activity is to develop Kampung Batu Busuk into a tourist area which is supported by the development of processed durian products as a tourism attraction. Based on a SWOT analysis qualitatively of the potency of durian processed products development, it can be concluded that durian processed products have a great prospect of supporting the development of Batu Busuk Village as a tourist destination. The strategy offered is to apply the strategy of product development, product market development, improvement of tourism management, and development of managers, especially PKK community in Batu Busuk village. One way to achieve this strategy is by collaborating with the people of Kampung Batu Busuk and Andalas University in the development of processed durian products as a supporter of tourist attractions.

Abstract

Maize is the main cash crop in intercropping system applied for replanting of palm oil which is expected to be the main source of income before palm oil crops produce. The transfer of maize cultivation technology in small holder palm oil plantation is aimed at increasing production of maize without harming the main crops and maintaining the productivity of land and the environment. Increased income can also be done through efforts to increase the added value of maize seeds into various food products. KKN-PPM activities that took place in Nagari Persiapan Girimaju, Luhak Nan Duo sub-district, West Pasaman district from June to August 2018 aimed to transfer maize production technology that is environmentally friendly and to transfer knowledge and skills in increasing the value added of maize into various food and other processed products. Results obtained from the KKN activities were (1) the community was able to apply maize production technology which was synergized with cattle farming, (2) there was an increase in the efficiency of maize production through introduction of maize sheller machine, (3) the community was able to produce a variety of maize-based food products and ( 4) the formation of new UMKMs in the location. The results of statistical analysis using a Likert scale gave an index value of 0.99 on the impact/benefits of KKN, indicating that KKN-PPM activities were categorized as very successful and benefited to the community, and gave an index value of 0.95 for the performance of KKN team, indicating that KKN-PPM team had sufficient competency and suitability knowledge with the program conducted.

Abstract

Soybeans undergo rapid deterioration due to its chemical composition and unfavourable storage conditions. The objective of the research was to determine the length period of seed hidration and dehydration which is integrated with rhizobateri to viability and vigor of deteriorated soybean seed. A completely randomized design with four replicates were used in this experiment. Seeds were treated with varied combination of hydration period in a rhizobacteria suspension and followed by dehydration time. Data were analysed using the F-test and significant differences were further tested with Least Significant Difference at the 5% level. Results showed that the hydration and dehydration period of seeds in a rhizobacteria suspension improved viability and vigor of seed which have 59.5% initial germination percentage. The improvement was 12.28%, 0.56, 25.4% and 1.4 days for standard germination test, vigor index, first count test percentage and T50, respectively. The hydration for 60 minutes followed by dehydration for 60 minutes gave the best results on seed viability and vigor.

Abstract

Okra is a functional vegetable with good nutritional content and medicinal benefits. The red okra cultivar has a lot of fruit in a single plant but have a short harvest period, thus the weight and size of the fruit are small. One of the techniques in the improvement of okra cultivar is performed by hybridization with the introduced okra varieties that have a longer harvest period. The objective of the research is to evaluate the crosses between red okra with the introduced okra varieties and to obtain plants from the crosses that have a longer fruit harvest period character. The research was conducted at the Research Station of the Faculty of Agriculture, Andalas University from Mei to October 2019. The materials used are the local red okra genotype, Ve-022, and B-291 introduced varieties as well as two of the crosses population of SOMB291 and SOMVe022. The whole plant is a red okra cultivar and the crosses are planted in a plot with a spacing of 40 x 50 cm. The performance of the crosses was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results showed that the plant obtained with a longer harvest period of 8 days after anthesis as much as 19 and 12%, respectively in the population of SOMB291 and SOMVe022. The increase in crop life in plants from the somb291 and somve022 populations resulted in a plant that has a greater length, diameter, and weight than the red okra population. The increase in the harvest period results in a greater length, diameter, and weight of fruit.

Abstract

Physical mutation methods can be used to enhance the character of local varieties of garlic. Gamma irradiation mutation is a good technique for assembling new, vegetatively propagated varieties because the cells are still actively dividing. The aim is to obtain information about the genetic diversity and parentage of certain garlic clones and to determine the level of changes in the gamma.The system used by several Scopus journals, sciencedirect and other sciences that I read is distinct from the gamma irradiation mutations process. The gamma rays used come from the Co-60 or Cs-137 radio nuclides. The dose of the unit is measured in gray (Gy) and is equivalent to 1 J / kg. One kGy= one thousand gy. Rad dose units previously used, where 100 rad= 1 Gy or 1 krad= 10 Gy. And the arbitrary Random Amplification of Polymorphic DNA RAPD. Random Amplified Polymorphism DNA (RAPD) is the dominant marker capable of displaying good polymorphism and can be used to determine genetic diversity and molecular-level relationships among specie.There are important differences in mutations. In morphological, physiological, biological and chemical properties, plant genetic changes occur. Changes can survive as a result of mutations and can develop properly. Normal cells will disappear and mutant cells will develop further, resulting in a new plant appearance. Keywords; garlic clones, mutation induction, gamma rays, and mutagens ABSTRAKPerbaikkan karakter varietas lokal bawang putih bisa dilakukan dengan metode mutasi fisik. Mutasi Iradiasi gamma merupakan teknik yang tepat untuk merakit keragaman baru yang diperbanyak secara vegetatif,  karena sel-selnya masih aktif membelah. Tujuannya untuk memperoleh informasi tentang keragaman dan kekerabatan genetik beberapa klon bawang putih, dan mengetahui tingkat perubahan karakterirtik tanaman bawang putih akibat mutasi irradiasi gamma.Metodenya mutasi iradiasi gamma yang digunakan dari beberapa jurnal Scopus, sciencedirect dan sains lainnya yang saya dibaca berbeda-beda. Sinar gamma yang dipakai berasal dari nuklida radio Co-60 atau Cs-137. Satuan dosis diukur dengan gray (Gy) dan sepadan dengan serapan 1 J/kg. Satu kGy=1000 Gy. Sebelumnya digunakan satuan dosis rad, dimana 100 rad=1 Gy atau 1 krad=10 Gy.  dan marka molekuler Random Amplification of Polymorphic DNA RAPD. Random Amplified Polymorphism DNA (RAPD) merupakan marka dominan yang mampu menunjukkan polimorfisme baik dan bisa digunakan untuk mengetahui keragaman genetik dan hubungan antar spesies pada level molekuler.Mutasi memberikan variasi yang bermanfaat. Perubahan genetik tanaman terjadi pada karakter morfologi, fisiologi, anatomi, dan  kimia. Berubahan akibat mutasi dapat bertahan dan bisa berkembang dengan baik. Abstract

Sweet potato cultivation has potential to support the home industry in Padang city. Theaims of this community service program were to transfer knowledge and technology inmanagement of organic waste from household and farmer field, to applied the organic fertilizerin sweet potato cultivation, and to increase the value added of sweeet potato tuber. The programwas conducted from March to October 2015 in Ikur Koto, Koto Tangah District, Padang, WestSumatra. The partners were the Kelompok Wanita Tani (KWT) Pagai and Kelompok Tani danTernak Parak Tanjung Jaya. The methods of technology transfer were socialization anddiscussion, training, demplot or demonstration plot and demonstration in creating severalproducts from sweet potato tuber. The outcomes obtained in the end of the program are theability of communities to produce organic fertilizers and biopesticide. The farmers are successto applied the organic fertilizer to substitute 25% synthetic fertilizer, and able to produceseveral products from sweet potato tuber.

Abstract

Cultivation of ornamental plants in the school is necessary to provide the loveliness, and conductive atmosphere and environment for the learning process in that school. This community empowerment program aimed to transfer knowledge and technology of ornamental plants cultivation, covering the aspects of growing media, application of plant growth regulator, propagation and hybridization of ornamental plants to the biology teachers of high school. The methods of empowerment were community learning, demonstration, training, and self-practice. Results from the activities showed that the representative biology teachers from districts and cities in West Sumatra could be understood and applied the techniques of ornamental plants cultivation in their respective schools. The Likert analysis showed that a percentage of 95.6%, indicating that the transfer of technology provided is very beneficial for high school biology teachers. Hence, this activity is needed to be continuous in the future.

Abstract

Batu Busuk is a village adjacent to the Andalas University campus in Padang. The village, the centre of durian production in Padang city, has a variety of tourism attraction and destination. The purpose of this activity is to inventory and to map out all tourism potential in Batu Busuk and to map out the problems faced by tourism actors community organization in developing the destination. Based on the exploration carried out, the potential tourist attraction of Batu Busuk varies diversely, consisting of nature tourism, historic site tourism, agro-tourism and cultural tourism. However, there are some problems exist, i.e. lack of accessibility, lack of supporting facilities and institutions. Therefore, immediately efforts made are to prepare human resources, secondly to strengthen tourism management institution. Tourism service and other related services of Padang City can collaborate with local people and provide support in term of developing Batu Busuk tourism into a leading tourist destination in Padang.

Abstract

Tanaman bengkuang memiliki waktu pematangan polong yang tidak serempak. Hal ini menyebabkan waktu untuk pemanenan polong tidak bisa dilakukan dalam sekali pemanenan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui interaksi antara waktu dan konsentrasi yang berbeda pada pemberian ethepon terhadap keserempakan pematangan polong serta viabilitas dan vigor benih bengkuang varietas Kota Padang, mendapatkan waktu aplikasi ethepon yang terbaik, serta mendapatkan konsentrasi ethepon yang terbaik terhadap keserempakan pematangan polong serta viabilitas dan vigor benih bengkuang varietas Kota Padang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) yang terdiri dari dua faktor dan tiga kelompok. Faktor I, waktu aplikasi yang terdiri dari 3 taraf perlakuan yaitu 3 MSA (Minggu Setelah Antesis), 6 MSA, dan 9 MSA. Faktor II, konsentrasi ethepon yang terdiri dari 4 taraf perlakuan yaitu 0 ppm, 200 ppm, 400 ppm, dan 600 ppm. Diperoleh 12 kombinasi perlakuan dengan 3 kelompok, sehingga terdapat 36 satuan percobaan. Data  yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan uji F, jika berbeda nyata dilanjutkan dengan uji  Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) pada taraf nyata 5%. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada interaksi antara waktu aplikasi ethepon dengan konsentrasi ethepon yang berbeda terhadap keserempakan pematangan polong serta viabilitas dan vigor benih bengkuang varietas Kota Padang. Masing-masing perlakuan waktu aplikasi ethepon tidak memperlihatkan pengaruh yang nyata terhadap keserempakan pematangan polong serta viabilitas dan vigor benih bengkuang varietas Kota Padang. Pemberian ethepon dengan konsentrasi 400 ppm mampu meningkatkan jumlah polong tanaman bengkuang varietas Kota Padang.
